Chris Isaak

Mount Duneed Estate

The beautiful green lawns of the Mt.Duneed Estate are awash with picnic blankets and deck chairs out to see America heart throb Chris Isaak. Having a career that has spanned four decades and thirteen studio albums, award winning Isaak shows no signs of slowing down.

The line up for the show is laden full of talent, with The Mojo Corner, Ella Hooper, Vika and Linda and Sydney’s Boy & Bear.  The afternoon is chilly, but contemporary Tongan beauties Vika and Linda get the crowd warmed up with their charming set of classic hits.  The  entire front section is dancing to ‘ When Will You Come For Me’ and the two leave the stage on a high.

Sydney band Boy & Bear begin their set a little slowly, but by the time the sun begins to set, they have won the crowd over and everyone is up and dancing. Covering Crowded House’s ‘ Fall At Your Feet” sees the whole crowd erupt in an impromptu sing a long, and its a joyous moment.

The time has come for Chris Issak to entertain the crowd, and he saunters onto the stage in an embroidered blue sparkling suit. Having lost none of his boyish charm, Isaak is captivating to watch, the camaraderie between him and his band is exciting to watch.

Opening with ” American Boy” he moves through the crowd for ” Here I Stand” and stops to take selfies with the crowd who rush to greet him.  Pausing for a moment he asks one lucky audience member if she can sing, and they sing “Mary Had A Little Lamb” much to his amusement.

He moves through the hits quickly, making jokes here and there adding in a cover of Roy Orbison’s ” Pretty Woman” sounding very like the original, much to the delight of the crowd. Isaak is able to make a song both sound like the original and give it his own unique spin.

The evening is a foray into Isaak’s long illustrious career, and he has taken the crowd down a fantastic trip that has showcased what an exceptional song writer and showman he really is. He never misses a beat in his perfectly timed dance moves with the band, a leg kick and cheeky smile, he seems to really enjoy himself on stage.

As he leaves the stage to return for the encore, dressed in a suit that resembles a disco ball Isaak finished with “Baby Did A Bad Bad Thing”, ” Can’t Do A Thing” and ” The Way Things Are” ending the show on a high.

Having last graced the green lawns in 2016, Chris Isaak has again shown Australian crowds that he is a fantastic entertainer, a crooner and still has more sex appeal than a dozen oysters in a cold esky. He is charismatic, charming and a delight to watch.
