On a beautiful summers evening in the idyllic surrounds of the Sidney Myer Music Bowl, the Paul Kelly/Making Gravy rite-of-passage show once again has a full house of eager punters.

Warming up the crowd, and a somewhat unusual choice of support, Amyl and The Sniffers blasted through an energetic set of tunes, with singer Amy Taylor prowling the stage, devouring the songs with a fervour unmatched by many. Possibly an act that would be new to many PK fans, probably won some of the many seated fans sprawled out on rugs across the vast lawn.

After a short break Paul Kelly and full band opened the evening with Maybe This Christmas, featuring Alice Keith on vocals, moving into Petrichor, Careless, Before Too Long and A Bastard Like Me.

Many of the tunes were dedicated to those who we lost this year – Archie Roach, Judith Durham, Olivia Newton-John and as part of the first encore we were treated to Every Step Of The Way written for star footy player Eddie Betts, who was in the audience.

Throughout the night we’re treated to new songs and many hits over Kelly’s vast career and of course How To Make Gravy became an enormous sing-along bringing the house down.

Long may this tradition run.
