Sydney professional pianist, percussionist and composer Byron Mark announces an intimate live recording show of his project ‘Byron Mark Septet’ on the 15th November at the Annandale Creative Arts Centre.

Byron’s new project explores the sonic possibilities of combining a traditional string quartet with piano, cajon and tabla. After many tours and performances with flamenco ensembles around Australia, Byron has developed a strong passion for flamenco rhythms, and is using this knowledge to craft unique compositions that, although are inspired by flamenco palos, are coloured with Latin and Jazz rhythms and harmonies.

With the idea to bring global sounds to the fore-front in Australia, ’Byron Mark Septet’ was formed. The project is a powerful live ensemble with members from all around the world. Maharshi Raval (India) on tabla and Giorgio Rojas (Peru) on cajon bring their cultural influences and variations into the pieces, and their fantastic improvisation skills promise a captivating performance.

On the night, audiences will be part of a magical moment as the live recording of the performance will feature on the upcoming album. They will also be treated to experience great musical connections on stage between the Septet as they move between heavily structured sections of music, combined with large segments of improvised percussion and piano solos. Audiences will also bare witness to an unforgettable performance combining various cultures and performance personalities, and a new appreciation of how music from different traditions and genres can work seamlessly together.

Since the release of his debut album ‘AMALGAMATION’ in 2016, Byron has recorded a self-titled album with ‘Shanti Fire’ (2017), and an album with ‘Arrebato Ensemble’ called ‘Sofia’s Dream’ (2018). Byron has toured around Australia over the past 12 months with Arrebato Ensemble in partnership with the Musica Viva Concert Series initiative, sharing his love of flamenco together with Arrebato across the nation, and has been extremely well received by audiences.
