DYLAN JOEL
Makes his 2020 debut with delicate, vocally-driven new single “Snow”
Produced by multi award winners M-Phazes & Cam Bluff (Amy Shark “Adore”), Dylan’s new single “Snow” is not just a return to form for the young Melbourne artist, but rather an introduction to an elevated sound & style that he’s been refining since his debut and triple j feature album, ‘Authentic Lemonade’.
Challenging himself to write 100 songs in the space of 12 months, Dylan found his music style started to change. While rapping was the genre that launched him into the spotlight, song-writing was always where his heart felt more comfortable and, once again, became his primary outlet for putting his thoughts and emotions on paper.
Weaving effortlessly between acoustic guitar, a belting emotional vocal delivery, highlights of falsetto, and the melody-driven rap flow he is known for, Dylan’s performance in “Snow” showcases this young artist’s natural progression from rapper to singer songwriter and sets the tone for an upcoming EP that brings together elements of pop, hip hop, and folk into one collection of songs, slated for release this winter.

Inspired by a family member’s ongoing battle with mental health, Dylan’s lyrics in “Snow” speak of struggle, acceptance, support and above all, stress the importance of showing consistent love, even when love feels hopeless:
‘It was super confronting, watching someone I’ve known my whole life become a completely different person within a matter of a few days.

The classic ‘it’s okay not to be okay’ line is so easy to throw around, but to fully believe in that statement is incredibly hard and incredibly important.

It can get pretty dark, and feel pretty lonely and hopeless, even from the outside. But having people to talk to and journey with, brought comfort into the unknown. I think darkness is only scary when there’s no one to share it with.

I wrote ‘Snow’ as I feel the more we have conversations around things like depression and anxiety, the more we’ll understand them and the easier they’ll hopefully become’.
Dylan Joel’s new single “Snow” is out now (February 7th) on all digital platforms independently (via ADA).
