Two-time Grammy Award-winning, Brooklyn-based jazz-funk collective Snarky Puppy thrilled ravenous audiences at Melbourne International Jazz Festival last year and are returning for Byron Bay’s Bluesfest this year, so it is no surprise tickets to both Snarky Puppy performances at Melbourne Recital Centre’s Elisabeth Murdoch Hall on Saturday 8 April are selling fast!
Formed in Denton, Texas in 2004 under the guidance of bassist, composer, arranger and producer Michael League, Snarky Puppy today consists of a revolving line-up of almost 40 musicians. This fluid instrumental jazz-fusion ensemble has released 11 acclaimed albums over the journey, many of which fuse jammy studio recordings with music captured in the live environment. They’ve earned two Grammy Awards for their efforts and are becoming more prolific, having released two separate albums already in 2016: the live all-star collection Family Dinner, Volume 2 and the and the studio-focused Culcha Vulcha.
