New Jersey-born, Brooklyn-based rapper, Cakes Da Killa has long been making waves across New York and abroad. A pillar of the underground queer hip-hop scene, Da Killa has refined his signature 90s flow and cutthroat wordplay across three critically acclaimed mixtapes and debut album, Hedonismsupported by MTV, Fader and VICE. Performing crowd favourites “Gon Blow”“New Phone (Who Dis)”and recent release “Bed Rest”, the Southern Sounds stage welcomes Cakes Da Killa’s rapid-fire lyricism to the line-up.

Blending hip-hop, art and performance, Miss Blanks x FEMPRE$$ bring the femme power to Southern Sounds. Australian MC & boss, Miss Blanks, will join forces with FEMPRE$$ founder & visual artist, Hannah Brontë, to showcase Australia’s finest in hip-hop: Miss Blanks, Hannah Brontë, Aywinand G Elenil. Born from a club night with a rotating roster of line-ups, Miss Blanks x FEMPRE$$ aim to place women/femmes on the mic, the decks and the dancefloor, to ensure an unforgettable energetic evening with Southern Comfort.

Southern Sounds will shine a light on the creative spirit, musical heritage and spontaneity of NOLA’s famed streets, bringing together a range of artists for a true dose of New Orleans party culture. Delivering two stages of hip-hop, bounce, big band and soul to Waterloo’s COMMUNE, the jazz-bar-inspired French Quarter will see some of Australia’s finest musicians take to the stage, including REMIfeaturing their full band, neo-soul queen-in-waiting Kaiit, multi-instrumentalist and self-directed creative Milan Ring & Sydney’s favourite End Notes Big Band.

Stepping outside, COMMUNE’s laneway will be turned into a NOLA-style block party, featuring New Orleans-based bounce pioneer and rapper Sissy Nobby alongside fiery back-to-back Southern rap and bounce sets from homegrown DJs LevinsGoodgod’s Jimmy Sing, DJ Sezzo, Larrie and Dezzy D.

A new whiskey-forward expression of an all-time classic, Southern Comfort Black will be served as a range of different cocktails by local Sydney bar heroes Earl’s Juke Joint, while Sydney’s favourite fried chicken spot Butter will serve a specially crafted Southern Comfort menu from head chef Julian Cincotta and Southern Soul will pay homage to the South with their locally loved, home-style vegan offerings.

Inspired by freedom of expression, inclusivity, warmth of southern hospitality, Southern Sounds celebrates all things New Orleans. On December 8, witness new additions Cakes Da Killa & Miss Blanks x FEMPRE$$, alongside well-loved musicians, restaurateurs and drink connoisseurs pay homage to the heritage taste of Southern Comfort and the newest member of the family, Southern Comfort Black.
