Alice In Wonderland

Capitol Theatre

The white rabbit is late, very very late to the Queen’s croquet party when she happens upon Alice.

Some what intrigued by the events going on, Alice sets off on an adventure, to meet the Queen of Hearts and a plethora of characters along the way.

Adapted from the timeless Lewis Caroll classic, we meet our favourite characters The Cheshire Cat, Tweedledee and Tweedledum, and of course The Caterpillar who is full of sage advice for Alice.

Not to forget though the most famous character, the Mad Hatter, whom is hosting a somewhat chaotic tea party that is full of fun and frivolity.

Eventually Alice finds her way to the croquet game and chaos ensues. The Queen of Hearts as always is looking to alleviate people of their heads.

The cast of Alice in Wonderland give a fantastic performance that is engaging and entertaining. They have adapted the plot in a way to make the younger audience feel like they are not just watching, they are immersed in Alice’s Wonderland. To captivate a young audience is truly challenging and the cast do so with such ease and expertise. As Alice Cassidy Dunn is sweet and innocent, which charms viewers. The cast play multiple characters throughout, showcasing versatility and depth. Maddy Mason as the Queen of Hearts displays an excellent performance with her vocal interpretation of the character, using her voice as a tool to create a character that is both ridiculous and utterly mad. Her vocal performance gives depth to the character and she personifies the madness of the Queen. Dennis Manahan as The Mad Hatter, Bill the Lizard and Humpty Dumpty is a chameleon of sorts, barely recognisable in each role, showcasing impressive talent. The entire cast manages to change from one character to another with such ease and expertise that there are so many moments of pure joy in their creations. Rachel Tunaley as the White Rabbit, Door mouse and Fish Footman is another performer that is chameleonic in her various roles and is a delight to watch. However it’s challenging to really pick a favourite as every actor gives such exceptional performances. With the famous Walter Burley Griffin ceiling as a backdrop the whole experience is truly immersive and captivating.

Alice in Wonderland is an entertaining and engaging experience for younger audiences and a re-visit for the adults to a story that has entertained audiences for generations.
