[Movie Review] Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocolypse

Being a scout isn’t the coolest thing in the world, but it does come in handy when your town has suddenly had a zombie outbreak and you’re the last line of defense.

On a night when three best friends should be out camping they end up joining forces with a bad ass cocktail waitress to save a bunch of party goers and the last of the towns survivors.

Ben ( Ty Sheridan), Augie ( Joey Morgan) and Carter ( Logan Miller) use all of their essential scout survival skills to face off against the zombies when an accidental outbreak occurs. Having been given the wrong address to the party the boys along with cocktail waitress Denise ( Sarah Dumont) first must navigate to Carter’s house to pick up his sister’s diary containing the real address and once they fight off a few dozen zombies they’re on the way to rescue Carter’s sister Kendall ( Halston Sage) who Ben just happens to have an incurable crush on.

Along the way they encounter more than their share of trouble, including a Britney Spears sing -a- long with a zombie and a few dozen zombie cats. Making it to the party just in time the boys manage to save Kendall and become the unlikely heroes of the day, proving that scouts aren’t that uncool after all.

The first half of the movie works hard on the character development and setting up the story, but as soon as that is out of the way its down to business with the gross out humor and cheap laughs.Director Christopher Landon  relies on a lot of juvenile humor and sexual gags to garner  the most laughs, including zombie breasts among other things.

In a kind of Superbad meets Shaun of the Dead way the movie manages to be a lot of dumb fun aimed at the teenagers ( although an R rating may prevent some viewers from seeing it) that are portrayed on screen. Scouts’ Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse is a fun movie that is a bit of light hearted entertainment that a broad audience will enjoy.
