EG 2017

It’s been months since the release of LA dream pop duo Electric Guest’s brilliant sophomore record, Plural, and yet it continues to prove to be the record that keeps on giving, thanks to the new video for the latest single, ‘Oh Devil.’

The multi-talented EG members, Asa Taccone and Matthew Compton, once again star in the video (as has has become the norm for their most recent, excellent videos), and this time they’re joined by comedians Neal Brennan (co-creator of Chappelle’s Show, his own comedy special Three Mics) and Will Forte (SNL, Nebraska, The Last Man On Earth). The song also features cameo vocals from reggae star Devin Di Dakta.

The video which was directed by Tim Nackashi and produced by Angel Rosha and is set in a slightly odd world version of an LA community pool, that’s run by a fiendish Brennan, and is somewhat poorly attended by the band members as life guards. Stick around till the end to see Forte as an oddball pool cleaner singing his own version of the single.

The video premiered on the Nerdist website in the US and on Speaker TV here in Australia, who said it was, “all things cheeky, hilarious, and random as hell.”

Recorded in their hometown of LA and, Plural was released after a five-year hiatus since the release of their breakout debut, Mondo. Despite that extended absence, Plural is a record that finds Electric Guest at the absolute top of their game, infusing their version of electronic r’n’b with an even more confident, adventurous spirit than even Mondo displayed.

Co-produced by the band themselves, along with the likes of John Hill (Rihanna, Santigold, M.I.A.), Cole MGN (Nite Jewel, Ariel Punk’s Haunted Graffiti) and Lars Stalfors (HEALTH, Coldwar Kids), the record also features several off-the-cuff collaborations that appear across Plural, including an impromptu collaboration with baroque pop star Joanna Newsom and the Haim sisters. And despite an approach that saw the band use spare instrumentation and recording techniques, the album has proven to be much more than the sum of its parts with vibrant and joyful pop sound that has been heralded both internationally, as well as by local outlets, including The Music, The Brag, and Music Feeds.
