Soothsayer are thrilled to present the first golden nugget for 2018 from one of our nearest and dearest Dro Carey, who has teamed up with Taliwhoah & Genesis Owusu to deliver a shiny new beauty titled ‘Glow Now’.
Receiving a world premiere on triple j Good Nights on Tuesday, followed by online love via Pigeons and Planes, ‘Glow Now’ sees Dro Carey further expand his stylistic wings, pulling delicate pop aspects onto a musical bed that is a perfect concoction of gleaming sparkle and grit. Traversing new sonic territories, ‘Glow Now’ is an upbeat yet reflective track with heavy UK Garage-influences.
A collaborative effort, crisp vocals from London R&B artist Taliwhoah fuse with Canberra innovator Genesis Owusu’s breezy, oozing rap. ‘Glow Now’ slides its electronic fingers in to the subconscious mind – simultaneously sinister, restrained and intoxicating.
With Genesis Owusu, I had heard ‘Sideways’ on the radio which immediately put him on my radar, but not at all necessarily for ‘Glow Now’, especially given how stylistically different it is to ‘Sideways’. It was only after delving a bit deeper online and hearing tracks from hisCARDRIVE EP, especially his verse flows on the track ‘Drive Slow’ that I thought it was worth asking him if he wanted to feature on ‘Glow Now’. – Eugene (Dro Carey)
Dro Carey is the primary project and production alias of Sydney musician Eugene Ward. Landing somewhere in between house, grime and electronica, the Sydney-based producer creates soundscapes that are not only intelligent but uniquely nomadic. After crafting a heavy and varied series of 12” singles and EPs for labels such as Greco-Roman, TTT and Templar Sound, Dro Carey signed to Melbourne tastemaker label Soothsayer, releasing his EP Dark Zoo, quickly followed by a stylistic jump to the grime-influenced rap single ‘Elevate’, and cementing his place as one of Australia’s most fascinating producers.
‘Glow Now’ marks Dro Carey’s intriguing entry into 2018, which is set to unfold as his largest yet. All will be revealed soon.
