In the wake of the release of the brand-new single ‘Chasing Stars feat. Bertie Blackman’, currently the most-played song on triple j and her third consecutive release from the forthcoming debut album I’m Dreaming (Feb 9) to be added to high-rotation, Melbourne artist/producer Alice Ivy has inked an international deal with renowned purveyors of forward-thinking, progressive dance and alternative acts, Last Gang Records.
Ivy first drew the attention of the Toronto, Ontario based label best-known for signings ranging Metric, Purity Ring, MSTRKRFT, Chromeo and Crystal Castles in 2016 when her soul/hip-hop laced single “Almost Here” turned well-attuned ears in their A&R department. Her official showcase selection at Canadian Music Week 2017 provided both parties with an opportunity to become better acquainted culminating in this week’s signing.
“I’m Dreaming is a sublime piece of work from top to bottom. We are excited to welcome Alice Ivy and her team to our global team.” – Chris Taylor, Co-Founder Last Gang Records & Global President of Music at Entertainment One
The deal sees Ivy consolidate existing Australia/NZ representation with Dew Process/UMA and foreshadows her upcoming appearance at South By Southwest 2018 in Austin, Texas in March.
“I’m so stoked to be working with Last Gang. It’s a dream come true to be a part of a legacy of inspiring artists like Metric, Purity Ring and Crystal Castles, bands that I grew up listening to. I’ve been making music as Alice Ivy for just over 2 years now and this is a huge milestone in my career” says Ivy of her newfound partner abroad.
Few artists arrive with a debut album as fully formed as Melbourne’s Alice Ivy. This is no fluke. I’m Dreaming is the product of a life spent playing and studying music — a life that has turned the 24-year-old, née Annika Schmarsel, into something of an auteur, self- reliant but with a love of collaboration. Raised in Geelong, playing guitar in soul bands, it was only when she moved to Melbourne that she started mastering the editing suite. Now based in Brunswick, she has her own home studio where most of I’m Dreaming was recorded and self-produced. From producing beats, writing music and lyrics and to singing on the record, Alice Ivy pulled all the strings for this album. I’m Dreaming is available worldwide February 9, 2018.
