Hailed as one of Australia’s best new pop acts, Sydney-based singer/songwriter Kota Banks has unveiled her latest genre-pushing pop slice “Zoom” as premiered via triple j’s Good Nights, and audacious companion video – out today on the esteemed NLV Records.
With production pioneer Swick behind the desks, “Zoom” sees Banks carve out yet another certified pop banger. Brimming with confidence, the track oozes attitude as Bank’s sugar-dipped melodies tease over Swick’s crystalline beats and thrusting groove. Like the track itself, the accompanying video shows off Banks’ daring side, throwing caution to the wind as she “zoom zoom zoom”s around on dirt bikes like a boss.
On “Zoom”, Kota Banks says: “Zoom was inspired by two things: a thrilling late night rendezvous last Winter, and dancehall music. I loved the idea of throwing a colourful, detailed lyric across a sultry beat, because storytelling has always been so important to me, and dancing is something I love at the moment. With this song I got the best of both worlds. I wanted the song to sound like secrecy and adventure and euphoria and late nights. I hope it triggers memories and the prospect of thrill and adventure for people listening.”
“Zoom” follows on from Kota Banks’ previous infectious summer gem “Holiday”, the first track to be released upon her inauguration into tastemaker label NLV Records. The track received widespread acclaim & support from radio across the country, Junkee, Acclaim, Pilerats and more, amassing over a million streams and being lauded as “one of the best pop songs of the year”.
To celebrate the glistening new single, Kota Banks will be taking the stage to headline the freshly announced NLV Records parties. Exhibiting her vocal prowess, the parties will be taking place in Sydney on Friday April 6 and in Melbourne on Friday April 20, with fellow label-mates Swick, Strict Face & Lewis Cancut joining forces on the impressive bill.
At only 23-years old, Banks has toured nationally with Nina Las Vegas on the FOMO Festival line up, secured a Mushroom publishing deal, co-penned Australia’s song for 2017 Junior Eurovision, and written for the likes of 2017 The Voice Winner Judah Kelly, Singapore’s pop sensation Tabitha Nauser, Jai Waetford and SUPERCRUEL. The release of her single “Empty Streets” featuring MOZA, saw Banks chart in the Top Five Global Viral Spotify charts, with the song reaching over 17 million streams as well as seeing support from international tastemaker Majestic Casual.
It’s no surprise that Banks is leading the charge for the new guard of (pop) stars and “Zoom” is a further glorious testament. With more music around the corner, don’t miss your chance to catch Banks headline the NLV Records parties this April!
