One of Australia’s premier music, food and art festivals, Spilt Milk, secures legendary status today as they reveal their star-studded 2018 artist lineup. Making its third visit to the nation’s capital, Spilt Milk returns to Canberra’s Commonwealth Park on Saturday, 17 November 2018 with a lineup of international superstars and fierce local talent including Childish Gambino, The Wombats, Peking Duk, Vera Blue, Jack River, RL Grime, The Jungle Giants, Miss Blanks, Hayden James, Cub Sport, Methyl Ethel, Kira Puru, Thundamentals, Willaris. K, Hatchie & more.
Leading the way in 2018, Spilt Milk are thrilled to welcome Childish Gambino to Australia. His most recent chart-topping single “This Is America” debuted at #1 on the Billboard Charts and received viral widespread acclaim, proving again Gambino’s artistic flare is everlasting. Fans will be treated to Gambino’s impressive discography in November, that includes his humble rap beginnings on debut Camp LP, the seminal breakthrough Because The Internet and Grammy Award-winning, Awaken, My Love!. Known for his high energy, captivating presence and masterful artistry, Childish Gambino will have your full attention.
Hugely loved UK act, The Wombats touch back down on Australian soil in November. Touring their 2018 release, Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life, expect a delectable smorgasbord of current hits “Turn”and “Cheetah Tongue” alongside pop classics such as “Let’s Dance to Joy Division”, “Jump Into The Fog”and “Your Body is a Weapon”. Meanwhile, Canberra born-and-raised and loveable locals Peking Duk will take to the Spilt Milk stage like hometown heroes with their electrifying, full throttle presence. The dynamic duo, Adam Hyde and Reuben Styles bring their latest hit “Fire” and the track that launched a national tour “Wasted”, alongside international collabs like “Let You Down” feat. Icona Pop, “Fake Magic”feat. AlunaGeorge and “Stranger” feat. Elliphant. The pair will be bringing their huge live show to the nation’s capital for the first time and will leave you sweat-soaked and picking bits of confetti out of your hair for days.
Bringing her Lady Powers and effervescent aura to the Spilt Milk stage for 2018 is the incredibly talented and ethereal wonder that is Vera Blue. Since releasing her EP, Fingertips in 2016 and highly acclaimed album, Perrenial, she has sold out a whopping four Australian tours, with Paper Magazineclaiming the Australian artist as “undoubtedly on the path to world domination”. Joining the ranks with her is multi-instrumentalist, singer/songwriter and producer, Jack River. Known by her friends as Holly Rankin, she is a master of creating electro-tinged alt-pop songs, such as “Fault Line” and the glittery jam “Fool’s Gold”, both featured on her debut LP, Sugar Mountain released just last week.
Days away from releasing his second full length album NOVA, Los Angeles producer RL Grime will bring his signature mix of space, texture and bass to Spilt Milk for 2018. His latest festival anthems “Undo”feat. Jeremih & Tory Lanez and “I Wanna Know” feat. Daya will bring an unforgettable cinematic experience to our shores. Having built a cult following for his highly streamed annual Halloween mixes, Australia eagerly awaits the return of RL Grime.
Adding to the international heavyweights for Spilt Milk 2018 like hip-hop royalty YG, are some of Australia’s own musical juggernauts. Sydney’s anthemic producer Hayden James will bring his dance floor ready hits like “Just Friends”, “NUMB” & “Just A Lover”, Brisbane’s The Jungle Giants and their stand out tracks from their 2017 release Quiet Ferocity, while Perth rockers Methyl Ethel join the lineup after a stand out year in 2017 with their Triple J Feature Album, Everything is Forgotten. The irrevocable Miss Blanks will bring straight fire to the stage with her enigmatic hip-hop and jaw dropping stage show, and Melbourne indie rockers, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever will have you toe tapping to their tough punk & soft pop. Grunge, alternative rock four-piece Moaning Lisa appear alongside beloved hip-hop group, Thundamentals, the incredible Kira Puru, synth-pop sensation Hatchie and Western Sydney’s Manu Crook$. Gold Coast sweethearts Cub Sport also join the bill, as does soulful powerhouse Thandi Phoenix, and many more, rounding out what will be Spilt Milk’s biggest year to date.
Alongside the mammoth musical line-up is a team of innovative visual artists, who will transform Commonwealth Park into a weird and wonderful playground of visual delights. Leading the pack is Hamburg based artist, Stefanie Thiele. First and foremost a painter, Stefanie’s extensive background across photography, graphic design, textiles, sculpture and more, will guide a team of local Canberran artists to create artistic experiences, installations and decor that will overload your senses and transport you to another world. Between acts, a delectable selection of food vendors will be there to satiate your appetites and keep you going all day long. Awaken your tastebuds with the enticing Asian inspired street food from Bao Brothers, go full, finger-lickin’ guilty pleasure with Dirty Bird Food Truckor stick with the cult classic burgers from Chur Burger. Happy as Larry will be serving up traditional Napoli style wood-fired pizza, while Sofrito will bring the Paella straight from the streets of Spain.
