Boo Seeka
Chapel Off Chapel
July 27
The iconic Chapel Off Chapel was built in 1858 when architects Thomas J Crouch and Ralph Wilson designed the independent bluestone church on Malvern Road Prahran, building what would later become one of Melbourne’s most iconic music venues.
Tonight the venue plays host to Boo Seeka, playing stripped back versions of their most popular hits – dubbed the Raw Files 2.0. Seated on a stool is Ben, holding a Cole Clarke. The venue is sold out, a seated intimate show for old and new fans of the popular indie band. Opening with ‘ Kingdom Leader’ from the first note the audience is captivated.
The music of Boo Seeka holds up beautifully as the duo play in sync, rendering each hit from a dance track into a solid acoustic number. Playing ‘ Moonlight Run’, the audience is virtually holding their breaths for each note. Working through a variety of numbers from their catalogue, including ‘ Humans’, ‘ Is it Ever Enough’ and a new track from their collaboration with Boy & Bear titled ‘Science’ which will form part of the new album.
The show wraps up all too soon with a cover of Elvis Presley’s ‘ Can’t Help Falling In Love’, and a lullaby version of ‘Stories’. The show has been an intimate evening of music that allows the song writing talents of front man Ben to shine, giving the audience and insight to how the song writing process develops the iconic sound. It’s been a enjoyable evening of witty banter, casual effortless playing and songs that translate to acoustic numbers beautifully. The Raw Files is a different experience compared to a regular Boo Seeka show, and seeing the songs transcend into another form is an exceptional experience.
