Kalandra
Stay Gold
East Brunswick’s iconic venue Stay Gold is bursting at the seams with patrons this evening for the debut Australian tour with Norwegian band Kalandra.
The eclectic crowd holds their breath in awe, as the first notes of ‘ Borders’ begins. The small stage giving fans a very intimate and personal performance.
The band fill the room with sound, it takes up space and draws listeners in as they clutch their phones, elbow to elbow filming each moment.
Singing in both Norwegian and English by Katrine Stenbekk’s sublime vocals are almost other worldly, it’s like she sings from an ancient time and memory. It’s captivating and beautifully crafted music that is haunting.
She stops occasionally to talk to the audience, a delicate voice that speaks of heartbreak, love, seasons and life. Fans hanging on every word, delighted to be witnessing the event.
Playing favourites ‘Bukkehorn’, ‘Till The End’ and ‘Ghosts’ the band plays a solid 90 min set. The room is hushed the entire time, and the band thanks the crowd for being polite. Melbourne audiences are known for their respect for musicians, and most shows are watched in silent awe.
Closing out the set are ‘Helvegen’, ‘Brave New World’ and
‘ Bardaginn’ before the band head over to meet eagerly awaiting fans at the merch desk.
Kalandra’s debut tour has been well received and fans have delighted in seeing the popular band finally on Australian shores. Hopefully they return soon to much bigger venues to celebrate their music with even more fans.
