Emerging artist Lotte Gallagher showcases her powerful songwriting and vocal abilities with a raw and emotional performance.
She draws us in with songs like ‘Can We Talk When It’s Over’ and ‘Heavy’ which she teaches us some parts that we can easily singalong to in the shower.
Gallagher shares a brand-new song written just yesterday with a bit of a country accent. “It’s a little bit sad. It’s about an ex of mine,” she laughs. She brings the tone right back up with ‘Falling’ and ‘Adam’ to finish full of raw, angsty energy.
Tash is up next and behind by professing her love for R&B pop. She instantly catches our attention with her smooth soulful vocals with emotionally personal lyrics backed by a groovy baseline on tracks ‘787’ and ‘Therapist’.
She shares a relatable song called ‘Tamagotchi’ in which she reminisces about simpler times in her childhood playing computer games all day long without a care in the world.
The light swirls around behind lead singer of Telenova Angeline Armstrong, casting a mysterious shadow of light across the room as she stands centre stage beginning with ‘Discotheque Inside My Head’. It sets the tone of their dark and moody atmospheric indie-pop.
“This is a huge milestone for us. It’s our biggest ever headline show and it’s so beautiful to get to spend it here in Melbourne,” exclaims Armstrong.
“This building we’re in was built in 1912 and it’s the oldest cinema in Victoria which is just so awesome that we get to play this show here. I hope that tonight is a cinematic experience for you,” she adds. It’s the perfect venue to match their captivating music which they describe as ‘Cinema for your ears.’ They create a unique and immersive experience for us to get lost in.
They continue with crowd favourites ‘Power’, ‘January’ and ‘Temples’ with a haunting and emotional nostalgic vibe. Armstrong has an incredible stage presence and dreamy vocals to connect with audience on many different levels as she navigates a diverse soundtrack that keeps us in a steady sway. The band works together seamlessly and builds the performance up effortlessly at all the right moments.
“The closer people are to me in life the more I tend to take on their feelings. And sometimes when someone you care about a lot is having a really rough time and you can feel this real heaviness in your heart, and you just want them to be happy and you want to make them laugh and be like the sunlight spilling under their door- you want to be their comedian,” shares Armstrong before their song ‘Comedian.’
Telenova make clear that they don’t do encores so after ‘Lost In The Rush’ they continue on with ‘Margot’ and ‘Bones’ for a strong finish of a very polished performance that leaves a lasting impression on the audience. They promise that they’ll stick around after the show for a meet and greet to the delight of many fans in the room.
