My Dream Rider: Kav Temperley

1.A Farecaster

Hyperion is a sci fi novel by the writer Dan Simmons.

One of the cool ideas in the book is a door way called a Farecaster.

It’s a wormhole that if you install one doorway in one place and then a corresponding door in another place it means you can walk through that door and appear at the other place great distances away.

In the book they install them on different planets, and the uber rich own houses where every room is on a different planet.

I think it would be great to have one backstage, then I could have a home cooked meal, put my children to bed, pash my wife and then step through a door to the backstage area and get ready to walk on stage.

2 Margaret Atwood

I am a huge Margaret Atwood fan, every time I see her in interviews or on stage at writers festivals she is just amazing.

I can think of no better warm up for a show than chatting with Margaret Atwood.

Though I’m sure she has much more important things to do than just hang out backstage at an Eskimo Joe concert

3 Woodlands wine

In the south west of western Australia there are some delicious wines.

In one particular area called Wilyabrup on one very special hill is a winery called Woodlands.

They name all their wines after the family members, so you have wines called “Margret “ “Thomas” “clementine”

I want ALL of their wines on my rider

4 Maggie Beer

If you were going to have someone backstage cooking you dinner then surely you would want your food soaked in ver jus and cooked by Maggie Beer

5 A recording studio

I’m always coming up with ideas just before I’m about to walk onstage,

I’ll often be seen sitting at a piano recording ideas onto my iPhone.

so sometimes I think wouldn’t it be great to have a recording studio backstage.

6 A magical remote

My whole life I’ve dreamed of a universal, magical remote that I can use to turn off any television.

I think the idea of sport bars are awful, but just imagine how good it would be being able to turn off all those televisions with the sneaky click of a button.

7 One of those wardrobes that really famous bands have

Whenever I see music documentaries about huge stadium bands like the rolling stones, people like Mick Jagger always has a road case filled with fantastic, perfectly ironed stage outfits that he can pick or choose depending on his mood,

I’ll have one of them, thanks.

8 Kimchi

Kimchi is the name of my dog, he’s a pom-chi (a Pomeranian Chihuahua.)

I’ve never had time to get a dog, being a touring musician, but during the pandemic I finally caved in to the family’s request to get a pooch.

I never thought I would get a small dog either, but when I picked up Kimchi and we looked into each other’s eyes and it was love. We call him kimchi because he’s so spicy.

9 A pilates instructor

Stretching before you go onstage is super important, but like everyone else, I get lazy, so it would be good to have someone to motivate me to get moving.

Maybe they could yell things at me like “if you don’t use it, you lose it!!”

That would be great

10 Mixed lollies

Whenever I get a royalty payment my wife always says “now don’t spend it on mixed lollies”

I always spend it on mixed lollies
