My Dream Rider: Pierce Brothers

For years now twin brothers Jack and Patrick Pierce’s high energy duo Pierce Brothers has been a staple of the Australian indie-folk/ blues & roots scene, captivating festival goers and headlining sold out venues the world over. Exploding onto the world stage in 2014, the brothers started their journey as buskers on Bourke street (alongside other incredible busking acts Tash Sultana and Tones and I), and soon became a must-see act selling out 3 Corner Hotels with the release of their breakout EP The Night Tree in 2014.

  1. Starting from most important, we’d need a green room puppy. When we were first starting out we had a puppy on our rider as a joke, and a couple of times we almost accidentally ended up with a puppy of our own for real. But yeah having a little puppy running around the greenroom would give the perfect vibe to the start of a show.

  1. Drinks – generally a couple of beers before going onstage don’t hurt (although a lot can!). If we’re going to be picky it’s always a good idea to have some low carb beers on hand and some vodka for right before the show. Extra points to the promoter if we could be getting our ice from a swan sculpture.

  1. Now we’re going to need food. Generally a massive plate of veggies & dips but if we can get Gordan Ramsay preparing dinners for everyone just to that perfect line between being satisfied and not getting too full before a show, that would be fine.

Plus if we mess up anything onstage, we can have Gordan Ramsay yell from sidestage “it’s a b-minor you fucking TURKEY!!!

  1. Since this is going to be a massive show we’re going to need a massive sound. For a massive sound we’re going to need a massive band. I can think of no other backing band better for this job than The E Street Band.
  2. Since we’ve got the E-Street band playing we’re going to need head scarves so we can match Steve Van Zandt when we’re soloing onstage.

  1. A pretty incredible support act. Ideally we’d get someone  who could also jump up onstage and belt out some tunes with us too. I’m going to go with Dolly Parton. Before every show we all get into a huddle and take three deep breaths to ground ourselves before heading out onstage. Then everyone needs to hug everyone else. Dolly Parton does something similar before all of her shows too so i reckon it’d be a good fit.
Plus Dolly Parton is a fuckin legend!

  1. Depending on how much downtime we’d have between arrival and show time, having an oval nearby and a Sherrin Kangaroo Brand footy is always a massive plus. That way, especially if we’re overseas, we can kick the footy while we’re waiting for the sound check to start. It’s also a brilliant way of letting our international crew know what poor footballers look like. It also makes us look like better footballers by comparison.

  1. A bowling alley. We had this at a hotel in Slovenia between shows once, and it was insane. Definitely the perfect wind down after a show with the band and crew. Although, classic Dolly, she’d have a perfect game and blow us all out of the water.

  1. The entire backstage area must be overseen by the actor who played Del Preston from Wayne’s World 2, the legendary roadie who spoke was a nutbar. If he can take out a Bengal Tiger with a can of mace, we feel like we’re in good hands.

  1. A polaroid booth… let’s be honest who’s gonna believe this unless we can get some proof?!

Their new album ‘into the great unknown’ is out now.
