CLOVES, the London via-Melbourne singer/songwriter releases, “Wasted Time”, the moody, haunting track written by CLOVES and Justin Parker (Rihanna, Lana Del Rey).
CLOVES explains, “’Wasted Time’ is about that inner voice that tells you mid-conversation with someone that maybe you’re boring them or they don’t like you. ‘The only place I wanna go is anywhere there’s people I don’t know’ is one of my favorite lyrics. To truly find self-confidence and self-esteem is difficult for many people, myself included. It takes constant work to not be self-critical. ‘Wasted Time’ is about those internal conversations.”
CLOVES will be returning home this month to perform her first headline shows, performing in Sydney and Melbourne, as well as supporting The Rubens on their ‘Never Ever’ Regional Australian Tour for the W.A and QLD run. Kicking off her global tour this weekend at London’s All Points East Festival, alongside The XX, Lorde and LCD Soundsystem among others, additional international festival appearances include Bergenfest in Norway (Father John Misty, Pale Waves, James Bay) PinkPop in the Netherlands (Foo Fighers, Bruno Mars, Noel Gallagher) and Electric Picnic in Ireland (Kendrick Lamar, Massive Attack, Dua Lipa). CLOVES will also headline shows in Europe and the UK and supporting Great Van Fleet in July for her sold-out tour.
“Wasted Time” follows her most recent track, “Bringing the House Down,” released earlier this year. Produced by Ariel Rechtshaid (HAIM, Adele, Vampire Weekend), it had its first play on Beats 1 with Zane Lowe and was accompanied by a music video directed by Sophie Muller (Beyoncé, Coldplay, Gwen Stefani). Watch it here. Mahogany Session recently featured an intimate, live version of “Bringing the House Down” viewable here.
CLOVES is prepping for the global release of her full-length debut album release, One Big Nothing coming later this year. The record demonstrates an assurance and maturity beyond her years; an impressive progression from her lauded 2015 EP XIII, which landed her slots at the Coachella and Lollapalooza festivals and a track on the soundtrack to the 2016 film Me Before You.
Paste proclaimed CLOVES “stands on the brink of becoming the next Adele (seriously—she’s that good),” with raves from Noisey who commented on the “lovelorn timelessness to her voice,” and Pigeons & Planes who said, “if the voice doesn’t get you, the lyrics will. CLOVES is aiming straight for the heart with her music, and she’s hit the mark every time.”
