A wonderful and fitting end to their 20 years’ association with Bluesfest – and a chance for us all to say ‘Goodbye Goodbye’ for the last time before we say ‘Hello Hello’ to Felix and Ollie and their plans for The Cat

JOE CAMILLERI PRESENTS THE HONEYDRIPPER’S DYLAN PARTY

Curated especially for Bluesfest, Australian legend JOE CAMILLERI aka THE HONEYDRIPPER and handpicked Bluesfest favourites share their favourite Dylan songs celebrating the 80th birthday of Bob Dylan. The music and song-writing genius of Dylan has endured the decades, and even his protest songs of the early ‘60s bear relevance to the state of the world today. TAMAM SHUD

Tamam Shud played an important part as pioneers of progressive music in the late sixties and early seventies. The members of the band have stayed in touch quite regularly in the five decades since the early 1970’s. This has led to some memorable recordings and select live performances over the years. Iconic songs such as ‘Lady Sunshine’, ‘Too Many Life’ and ‘Bali Shores’ and ‘First Things’ from the “Morning of the Earth” film and soundtrack album, which were a huge success both in Australia and internationally. The LP charted in May 1972, and eventually went triple gold.

Tamam Shud reformed in 1994. They recorded an album of all-new material “Permanent Culture” with songs by Bjerre and Gaze and featuring the single “Stay”.In 2002 Tamam Shud performed in the original “Long Way to the Top” national concert tour and “Live in Concert” recording and in 2006 were part of the “Delightful Rain” project. In 2016 the first

page3image35726336 page3image35724032 page3image35720000 page3image35725376

all new Tamam Shud recording in over twenty years was released. The LP “Eight years of Moonlight”. The most recent Tamam Shud release is 2018’s CD “Resonate” featuring the current band Lindsay Bjerre, Tim Gaze, John Cobbin, Paul “DC” Di Giacomo and Nigel Macara.Tamam Shud still love creating, recording and performing together in the spirit in which they have always made music.

SPECTRUM

Spectrum today is, conceptually at least, similar to the original band launched way back in 1969, but the loss in 2013 of bassist and fellow founding member Bill Putt leaves NZ-born singer/songwriter Mike Rudd as the sole original member in the current line-up. The recent addition of Madder Lake guitarist Brenden Mason(pic)however has added a very positive dimension to the band, especially in the live performance arena-a recording would seem to be inevitable. Spectrum and Madder Lake played a very successful series of double bill shows during 2019 celebrating Spectrum’s 50th anniversary and as 2020 marked the Madders’ 50thanniversary there had been another series of double bill shows planned throughout the year, another good intention scuttled by COVID-19. Today’s Spectrum plays a batch of retrospective songs from the various Spectrum, Murtceps and Ariel albums, including as election from their many singles released over the decades. Like Spectrum’s ‘But That’s Alright’ and ‘Play a Song That I Know’, The Indelible Murtceps’ ‘Indelible Shuffle’ and ‘Esmeralda’ and Ariel’s ‘Jamaican Farewell’ and ‘Disco Dilemma’ -and never forgetting the legendary song that started it all, ‘I’ll Be Gone (Someday I’ll have money)’ of course!

Roger Foley-FOGG aka ELLIS D FOGG

was an early proponent of the Australian Counterculture movement, ELLIS D FOGG LIGHTSHOWS becoming a popular 1960s phenomena inspiring a Global Village of young people connected through Rock and Roll and Lightshows designed to produce a total worldwide experience, an expanded awareness, ‘the oneness of the world’ and the start of the Symbioscene, the Age of Aquarius. Foley-FOGG was also a founding member of Martin Sharp and Albie Thoms’ Yellow House artist collective in Kings Cross, Sydney. Over five decades, Fogg’s impressive body of work has evolved the medium of Lightshow Art, redefining the context of Performance Art, ‘happenings’, unusual theatre, dance parties and real Australian History with the Gija mob of Bow River, WA as well as facilitating the birth of the Australian Event Industry .

He is described by the Music Director of Vivid Sydney 2021 as the ‘Father of Lumino Kinetics’ in Australia, and the ‘VIVID Sydney of his day‘, Foley FOGG loves The Northern Rivers of NSW, producing a Lightshow Concert in Lismore City Hall and Mullumbimby in 1969 and filming the Aquarius Festival in 1973. He has exhibited his Lumino Kinetic Light Sculptures and photographs in New York, Kununurra, WA , Melbourne, Sydney and New Delhi.

SPINIFEX GUM feat. MARLIYA CHOIR, FELIX RIEBL, OLLIE MCGILL, EMMA DONOVAN, LYN WILLIAMS AM (CHOIR DIRECTOR), DEBORAH BROWN (CHOREOGRAPHER)Spinifex Gum has disarmed and uplifted audiences across Australia, bringing together the sound of Marliya, a 16- strong choir of talented young Indigenous female singers from Far North Queensland and the Torres Strait, led by Lyn Williams, with the music of Felix Riebl and Ollie McGill (The Cat Empire) and choreography by Deborah Brown. Born out of a collaborative trip to the Pilbara and a relationship with the Yindjibarndi community, Spinifex Gum began in 2015 when Marliya of Gondwana Choirs, Riebl and McGill came together to create new music. Since then, Spinifex Gum has toured national festivals with acclaimed singer Emma Donovan and guest appearances by Peter Garrett and Briggs. Part political and part aspirational, Spinifex Gum explores hard-hitting issues of our time, themes of friendship and female empowerment, and celebrates what can be achieved when we come together as one.

KEVIN BORICH EXPRESS

Kevin Borich, a man with 57 years of professional experience behind him, a man who was invited

page4image35851072 page4image35849536 page4image35850880 page4image35851456 page4image35851264

onstage to jam with Santana twice, has shared the stage with Bo Diddley, Richie Blackmore (Deep Purple), Ron Wood (Rolling Stones), Joe Walsh, John Mayall, Taj Mahal, Living Colour, Canned Heat, and has opened shows for Elton John, Status Quo, Jeff Beck, Buddy Guy and Peter Frampton, plus two AC/DC shows in the USA. He topped the Australian Rock Music Guitar Awards twice in the 70’s and is always mentioned in the Top 10.

His crowds are a mixture of generations and attitudes. Older rockers, with their long hair, see his relaxed stance to be the epitome of cool. Younger musicians are left pondering just how 3 performers can create such inescapable sounds, mixing Rock, Blues & Funk. Some fans know the words to his songs, dancing manically enjoying themselves. Indie people are curious to see if it is true what they have heard that a guitarist song writer with a career spanning close to 60 years can transcend his rock-based funk ‘n’ blues boundaries into the realms of their world.

The KEVIN BORICH EXPRESS is Kevin Borich (guitar, vocals), Jon Carson (drums, vocals) and Chris Gilbert (bass, vocals).

ZEVON – ACCIDENTALLY LIKE A MARTYR STARRING HENRY WAGONS

Warren Zevon- the songwriter’s songwriter. Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Linda Ronstadt and so many more have covered his songs. His visible hits Werewolves Of Londonand Lawyers, Guns & Moneyand Excitable Boybarely scratched the surface of the lyric genius found on his albums. So it makes perfect sense that Henry Wagons, in his own right a brilliant songwriter, has dug deep into Zevon’s genius, and alongside musical director Lachlan Bryan, embodies his work in Zevon – Accidently like a Martyr.

FIONA BOYES, KERRI SIMPSON, CARA ROBINSON, LEESA GENTZ, JULZ PARKER, ALISON PENNNEY & SWEET FELICIABlue Empress Artists is proud to present Australia’s finest Blues and Roots Artists in the spectacular nine-piece Blue Empress All-Stars. MINNIE MARKS

page5image35871104 page5image35871296 page5image35871488

Minnie Marks is not just some blazingly electrified guitar playing freak of nature. She is also a rare

and triple threat: Singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Winner of the Byron Bay Bluesfest

Busking Competition in 2011, she has since been found relentlessly gigging across the globe.

Equipped with an old Goldtop in her hands and a revolutionary Farmer Foot Drum at her feet; Marks

consistently pushes musical limits with her mind-blowing, dynamic guitar wizardry and her insanely

powerful voice, that roars out her truth through song as if her own life depended on it. And, if that’s

not enough, simultaneously, creates jaw-dropping grooves with spare limbs on her Foot Drum kit.

Finally, all three beasts are married together to forge a mammoth sized wall of sound.

Over the past twelve years, Marks has paved her musical journey around the world with three studio

albums and one live album recorded in Stuttgart, Germany. The award-winning troubadour shows

no sign of slowing down. Now in 2021, for the very first time producing her new album will be out

for release in early 2022.

page6image35788032
