‘FEELS LIKE A DIFFERENT THING’ OUT NOWVIDEO SHOT AT MAD MAX FILM LOCATION IN SOUTH AUSTRALIASOPHOMORE ALBUM TILT OUT FRIDAY 1 APRILTOURING AU/UK/EU IN 2022
I OH YOU are pleased to present ‘Feels Like A Different Thing’, the new, no-holds-barred single from Confidence Man’s forthcoming sophomore album TILT – out Friday 1 April. The track comes with a (literally) explosive film clip filmed at the 1985 Mad Max film location Coober Pedy, by director W.A.M. Bleakley (Middle Kids, Courtney Barnett, DMA’S).“‘Feels Like A Different Thing’ isn’t here to mess around,” explains Janet Planet. “Two lyrics, one riff, no fuss. It’ll get your blood pumping. It’ll make your ears bleed (in a good way). It’ll steal your car and burn down your house and you’ll still say thanks.”Written and self-produced by the band and mixed by Ewan Pearson (Metronomy, Jagwar Ma, Pet Shop Boys, Jessie Ware), ‘Feels Like A Different Thing’ is a maximalist revelation filled with big beats, even bigger choral interludes, and the age-old directive to work ya damn body HARD.
“Only in Coober Pedy [South Australia] can you blow up a car in exchange for a slab of beer. Dynamite and Datsun included. There’s no way we could have made this clip in the city.” – W.A.M. Bleakley ‘Feels Like A Different Thing’ joins the first single from TILT, ‘Holiday’ (and the subsequent banging ‘Holiday Remixes’). Getting added to rotation on triple j its first week of release, the track saw international pickup from CLASH, Brooklyn Vegan, Rolling Stone UK, NME UK + AU, The Line of Best Fit and Dork Mag, plus nods from tastemaker DJs across the globe. Cementing its place as the song of the summer, Spotify spins for ‘Holiday’ hit an all-time high on New Year’s Eve with the track seeing x4 its average daily plays. Partially inspired by time spent hanging out in the studio with certified Confidence Man fans Gregg Alexander (of New Radicals), Simon Carmody and U2 producer Andy Barlow, Confidence Man’s sophomore album TILT is built on a newfound philosophy: Think less, do more.A distinctly no-frills home recording setup — combined with a readily imbibed, heady mix of Grace Jones, Madonna, The Chemical Brothers, Deee-lite, 90s runway music and archive footage of raves — resulted in a sleeker, sexier new era of Confidence Man. TILT simultaneously thrums with the electric energies of the club, the NYC ballroom and the warehouse; uniting dancefloors across time and space. It is the sound of the band testing, stretching, and moulding; defining and redefining their parameters, “Wanting to push the boundaries of what Con Man could sound like” as Sugar puts it, “To take it to another dimension.”After making their return to the stage over the summer break, Confidence Man will headline Melbourne’s Forum in February before hitting the summer festival circuit in Melbourne, Adelaide, and Perth, plus Splendour in the Grass in July. The band will then head to the UK/EU to headline 02 Forum Kentish Town in London, alongside a huge club tour with more dates to be added.Aptly titled, ‘Feels Like A Different Thing’ is the biggest, baddest thing you’ll hear all year. As Sugar says, ‘If you ain’t wet by the end, then you just ain’t working hard enough.’
