Virginia band Turnover shares their first new music since 2019, with the release of two new songs and a music video for the feel-good lead single ‘Wait Too Long’. Serving as the B-side is the psych-rock inspired ‘Mountains Made of Clouds’, which sets the stage for an entirely new set of sounds that the band is exploring, with more new music to come later this year. The passing of time is on vocalist Austin Getz’ mind on ‘Wait Too Long’. Groovy drum & bass, jangly guitar and unforgettable synths soar over the choruses as the band further evolve the sounds and moods explored on their last two albums, Altogether and Good Nature.  While the festival-ready, psychedelic sway of the song makes it feel both calm and cool, the introspection in the song’s lyrics about maintaining close relationships – difficult both in friendship and in love – gives this on-the-surface bop a deeper meaning. On ‘Mountains Made of Clouds’ the swirling psychedelia makes the song feel like a brief but enchanting hallucination. At its heart, ‘Mountains Made of Clouds’ is a song about painful goodbyes, masked in escapist imagery about transcending sadness by somehow floating above it, as Getz mournfully recalls, “Watching stars all disappear / from above you even night the sky is clear / the warmth of tears behind your eyes / from the long and sad goodbye.”As a pair, lead single ‘Wait Too Long’ and b-side ‘Mountains Made of Clouds’ explore new sounds and moods using a cavalcade of synthesizers and atmospheric production. Drawing influences from Toro Y Moi, Khruangbin, Tame Impala and Mac Demarco, packed in with the band’s trademark emotional honesty. In 2019, Turnover released their fourth studio album, Altogether, which The FADER described as “their weirdest and most accessible to date”, featuring the stand out tracks ‘Plant Sugar’ and ‘Much After Feeling’. The album was preceded by the celebrated release of their 2017 LP Good Nature, which features the hit song ’Super Natural’. The band’s new music comes ahead of US tour dates with Temple of Angels and Healing Potpourri this June.‘Wait Too Long’ and ‘Mountains Made of Clouds’ are out now via Cooking Vinyl Australia and Run For Cover Records.
