Storyville Melbourne
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Five Stars
Walking into Storyville, you could almost be confused that you have stumbled into a fairy tale garden where fairies and pixies roam, it’s mystical and magical.
It’s a beautiful setting for Chris Demos to kick off the show.
Demos informs us that he suffers from insomnia.
“The show’s not about ships. It’s about It’s about, um, kind of what I what I do at night, um, because I’m up all night um, every night because I have a, say it with me, deep fear of being murdered. No one can relate.”
What entails is a funny series of night time thoughts, from reality tv show ideas to fighting night pigeons. When you’re up all night trying not to get yourself murdered, thoughts spiral, and boy does it make for some good comedy.
Demos gives a solid performance and his stories often go off into tangents, which makes it a little chaotic- but what can you expect from a guy that can’t get no sleep. He makes insomnia and Greek Trauma funny.
For anyone that suffers from insomnia- whether it be Greek trauma like Chris suffers from or just regular insomnia, his show is highly relatable.
From a re-imagining of Pimp My Ride, to delving deeper into why he suffers Greek Trauma, Demos is incredibly funny. His delivery is confident, relaxed and it’s sort of like watching a good mate regale you with stories over a beer at the pub. His performance doesn’t feel too polished, which is what makes it great- he’s the kind of guy that makes you feel comfortable watching him, and he could tell us about his insomnia for much longer. With an enthusiastic audience chiming in from time to time, it’s obvious he makes the audience at ease. Instantly likable and engaging, he is a fantastic performer.
Most people have probably suffered insomnia at one point in their lives. For Chris Demos to take his experiences and turn them into a show is pure comedy gold.
