Kim Churchill is once again due to release his art into the world, we caught up with the talented Kim Churchill to scale rocks, talk about life, music and traveling the globe as a recording artist.

Kim Churchill is a young man living life by his design, and as he casually walks up Sydney Road in Brunswick, the environmentally conscious artist picks up trash left on the sidewalk by inconsiderate litterers. Today we are visiting a local beach to talk all things life and music.

With his wayward curls and genuine smile, Kim speaks about his life with great passion and enthusiasm. He’s been living out of a van for the past several months, camping where he finds a nice spot, and writing music.  It’s the kind of life that some only dream of, yet Kim is experiencing it pending time wherever his heart desires.

As we traverse through the busy streets of Melbourne and out towards the beauty of Half Moon Bay, our destination for today’s photo shoot, one gets the sense that Kim is one of the most genuine musicians that graces Australian stages.

There is an aura of calm about him; Kim is a person at ease in his environment and his place in it. He’s a surfer who never checks the surf report, a traveller who will spend nights camped in places that make him happy, however most of all, Kim is an authentic human being. There is no pretence with him and what you see is what you get- at times his enthusiasm for life just bubbles over the edges.
These life experiences resonate in his music, and have become the backdrop to new music that he is working on, which seems like the perfect melting pot for creativity. To just go with the flow and see where life takes you seems to be the best thing for creating his art.

We talk casually as the sounds of Boo Seeka play over the radio, Kim becoming excited by hearing his friend Ben’s voice. Kim seems to travel in circles of other creatives, passing them in his travels at festivals and gigs.
He speaks candidly of the surreal-ness of being on stage, the fans, the people that will talk through an entire show and the pretty girls that feel entitled to meet him. It seems at times there are elements of performance that don’t sit well with him, however through the guidance of friends he is learning to deal with it and take it in his stride. He’s learning to be more firm with people at shows that are disruptive and this is a growing process.
As we arrive at our destination Kim is instantly enthralled with the sandstone cliffs of Half Moon Bay and he is instantly at home in the beauty of the place. It’s like entering another world and Kim revels in being here.

He scales the cliffs with pure excitement and is the conqueror of this world. His curls haphazardly flying about in the wind, at all times a smile spreads wide across his face.
There is one thing about Kim that resonates with the people that he meets- if he gives you his time, he is present, in the moment and you have his full attention. He is genuine and in a world full of fake Instagram likes and minor celebrity it’s a refreshing breath of air to be around. There is no messaging people on his phone constantly, Kim is here and now.

As the afternoon winds to a close and Kim races off to another event; one thing that can be said is that this young man who is living a life less ordinary, is a remarkable human being. His art and contribution to the world will be a legacy that lives on.
