Poetic and evocative, with a charming, sharp edge, upcoming songwriter Raymondouu has today announced his brand new single Outer Space, produced by WA-based artist Charles Heinrich. The song chronicles a young relationship, two people learning how to fall for each other, and follows Raymondouu’s previous single The Heat.

Outer Space echoes a wide range of influences in the lo-fi pop world. The soft melancholy of Alice Phoebe Lou comes to mind, while the track also feels right at home on playlists with Boy Pablo and Dayglow’s warm sound. Arpeggiated synths reflect the cosmic theme behind the lyrics, while Raymondouu’s gentle vocal feels honest and close. Anyone who has wanted to confess to their crush, but had trouble finding the words, will find comfort with this sweet track.

Speaking on the inspiration behind the track, and the creation process, Raymondouu says, “We wanted to try our hand at an indie pop song that had simple chords. Charlie played a two-chord progression over a simple beat and we just jammed on it and ended up writing the song in one session. The lyrics try to capture the feeling of drifting away in conversations.”

After being named a finalist in triple j’s prestigious Unearthed High competition in 2020 with his gorgeous track taxi driver, Raymondouu has been completely dedicated to his craft. He is now studying at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), one of Australia’s best performing arts schools.

He has found inspiration during his time at WAAPA, as he says, “My friends inspire me a lot — studying at WAAPA puts me in such a creative environment where great musical and song-writing ideas are formed…I’m just inspired by every day life — I like to write about very mundane stuff and bring a new perspective to it. I love writing really stupid lyrics and eventually some stick.”
