RELEASES NEW TRACK ‘twice as tough’
WITH MANSIONAIR

‘twice as tough’ is a beautifully etched collaboration, so deliberate and refined in its execution… a glorious slow-moving construction.’ – Clash Magazine, UK
‘twice as tough’ is the luminescent new single from Sydney-based multi-instrumentalist, producer and songwriter upsidedownhead (aka Ross James). The track features the vocals of Mansionair’s Jack Froggatt, who lends his pristine falsetto to the rhythmic, slow-burner.

Following on from previous single releases ‘to give (ft Parissa Tosif of Vallis Alps)’ and ‘open the sky (ft Tom Snowdon of No Mono)’, ‘twice as tough’ glistens with restraint, ultimately exploding into a bass-heavy chorus further accentuated by shimmering guitars and Froggatt’s full-throated explorations of loneliness and self-worth.

The collaboration came about as naturally as one could, as Ross and Jack both explain:

“I’ve been friends with the Mansionair boys for years, being Sydney locals and bumping into them at all the gigs and on tour. I literally had the thought, hey Jack… you for once in your life don’t have much on. Want to come jam? No rules… no pre conceptions.”

“Ross and I had always entertained the idea of working together, I love his ear for production and we share a lot of the same musical influences. We got together on a Sydney summer afternoon and after chatting about life and catching up we wrote this song, about learning to love yourself before letting other people in. This song is very much centred around consoling, more specifically … for someone to be strong, for you.”
