Why Haven’t You Listened To That Song I Sent You?
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Five Stars
The whimsical Storyville plays host to Marin May’s show ‘Why Haven’t You Listened To That Song I Sent You?’ and as she informs us that the show is rather whimsical, being inside a tree themed room seems appropriate.
So what is Limerence? the audience are asked.
Limerence is an involuntary state of intense, obsessive romantic infatuation with another person. German comic Maren May has had plenty of experience with the feeling and in tonight’s show she’s going to tell us all about it.
“The show is about limerence and obsession, and I’m a person that gets obsessed quite easily, right? Currently, absolutely assessed with the pub” she begins.
Over the next hour, we get to experience through May’s stories what it is to be obsessed, and her first crush.
She delivers her set with ease, confidence and fantastic crowd work. However it’s her vocal style that is the funniest- when she comes to a punchline she lowers her voice an octave and almost grunts to the audience- which is exceptionally funny.
May also tells us that she has been diagnosed with autism, and this makes her obsessions that much easier to understand. Funny indeed, but relatable.
And May is just that- to anyone with autism she’s preaching to the choir. Limerence is just one more thing to add to the daily experience of being autistic.
May is a delightful performer to watch, she endears herself to the audience quickly and we are invited into her world to share what it’s like to be inside her brain.
As we learn more about her experiences and become familiar with May, she becomes more comfortable with her delivery and performance. The initial nerves she began with melting into a relaxed performance that is engaging and entertaining.
May has let us into her world for an hour, shown us around a bit and given us a lot to laugh at. A wonderful performance from a charming comic.
