Situated at the Mornington Peninsula racecourse, the Red Hot Summer Tour took over the air, with a que to get in lining up at 10am, keen music goers were buzzing with excitement.
First off the rank was Dallas Frasca, an utter powerhouse ready to blast the doors off the house, Frasca, hails from North East Victoria and has a long history of bold and electrifying performances, her time at Red Hot Summer was no exception, heralding great sultry soul tones and pure rock and roll Frasca warmed up the crowd for what would be, one of the best days in rock and roll music for a while.
Next up, one of the most revered bands of Australian music, Rose Tattoo, fronted by Angry Anderson came out to rock the morning away, opening with “Scarred for Life” and rocking on through some of their greatest hits “One of the Boys” “Rock and Roll Outlaw” and “ Nice Boys”. At this point the crowd was ready to go and the bevies were flowing.
Baby Animals came out and jumped into their set very quickly, graced the crowd with their slick attitude and banging tunes, to breeze through the set.
Red Hot Summer Tour had some great food and beverage options from, souvlaki, baked potato, burgers, Vietnamese street food to name a few. Wide selection of alcoholic and non- alcoholic drinks were available.
No one was left out of the rock and roll festivities at this event having an accessibility viewing platform, accessible entry and bathrooms ensuring everyone can enjoy the music and a good day out, just like it should be everywhere. Disability doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a day of hard rockin.
Gracing the stage after Baby Animals, was Melbourne based Rockability legends, The Living End, Rolling out with “Roll On”, “Second Solution” and “Pictures”, half way through the set Chris Cheney announced they were playing a new track “ Alfie” in honour of all the tour crew, venue staff, musician’s and industry workers who were left out of work through covid times, while also creating a call to action to bring back live music to Melbourne and Australia as a whole, to get us back to where we should be, and ot bring back rock music to its former glory in a world that doesn’t showcase our local acts anywhere near as much as they should. The crowd went wild for “ West End Riot , “Prisoner of Society” and ending tune, “White Noise”,rounding out an absolutely killer set.
Next up was the legend himself, George Thorogood and the Destroyers, making their way over from the United States, sharing their high energy-bluesy rock sounds with the crowd. Opening with “Rock Party” George rocked up through their biggest hits,” Who Do you Love, “One Burbon, One Scotch One Beer”, Steppin’ Out” to pause on “Get A Haircut” to appreciate the Aussie accent echoing back their songs, finally closing out with “Gloria”.
Finally it was time for the long awaited headliner act, ZZ Top, you could feel the buzz in the air as everyone was on their feet for the final act, Walking onto stage in beautifully bedazzled suits, with Elwood Francis rocking the beast of a 17 string bass guitar, Opening with “Pressure”, “Bus” and “Jesus”, carrying the crowd through to “Mississippi” “Sugar” “Tube Snake” and finally ending on “La Grange”.
