Summersalt Festival

Mornington Racecourse

The sun is shining over the Mornington Racecourse as fans are squeezed in like sardines to witness some of Australia’s finest musicians for the annual Summersalt Festival.

First up on the billing is Josh Pyke. His relaxed performance style and catchy music is a great way to kick off the day, and as people settle into their seats, Josh is the perfect choice to get people in the mood.

Next up is sister act The Waifs. With Donna Simpson on lead vocals and Vicki Thorn on harmonica the band gets everyone up and dancing with his like ‘ London Still’ and ‘Lighthouse ’. The standing room section is packed with smiling faces and fans thoroughly enjoying the set. At one point Donna exclaims that she’s amazed that her music still has such a strong impact on people.

After a short break Tim Freedman seats himself at a piano and greets the eagerly awaiting crowd. Playing a plethora of hits including ‘ No Aphrodisiac’ ‘ Blow Up the Pokies’  ‘ Thank You ( For Loving Me At My Worst) and the tongue in cheek song about working at Maccas ‘ I Make Hamburgers’, Freeman proves what a fantastic entertainer he is, as he belts out hit after hit.

There is a bit of a chill coming as the sun is beginning to dip in the horizon as Fanning Dempsey National Park grace the stage with their presence.
