To launch the series, Sydney welcomes the biggest icons of disco, together for the first time in what is sure to become the most talked-about concert line-up of the summer.

Rock n Roll Hall of Fame inductees The Jacksons, featuring original members Jermaine, Jackie, Tito and Marlon will lead the charge, playing the hits that started a dynasty including ‘Can You Feel It’, ‘Blame It On The Boogie’, ‘I’ll Be There’, ‘ABC’ and many more.

Kool & the Gang will keep the astounding playlist pumping with hits from throughout their five-decade career including ‘Celebration’, ‘Cherish’ and ‘Jungle Boogie’ while three-time Grammy winners The Pointer Sisters will bring their swag of party-starters including ‘I’m So Excited’, ‘Jump (For My Love)’, ‘Neutron Dance’, ‘Slow Hand’ and ‘Fire’ to delight generations of fans.

Village People, led by founding member Victor Willis will show why they are the kings of disco with their smash hits including ‘Macho Man’, ‘YMCA’, ‘In The Navy’, ‘Go West and ‘Can’t Stop the Music’.

Sister Sledge will bring the party with ‘We Are Family’ and ‘Lost In Music’ and ‘He’s The Greatest Dancer’, and Sounds of the Supremes will open the party, bringing the inspiration of disco to the stage with their greatest hits of the 60s and 70s.

$uicideboy$ announce the release of a new album, ‘I Want To Die In New Orleans’, on September 7th via G*59 Records / Caroline Australia. Alongside the announcement, $uicideboy$ have also shared one of its tracks, ‘Carrollton’.

$uicideboy$ make the kind of music parents just don’t get – a point that the Beastie Boys’ Mike D recently brought home when he told Vulture, “It was weird to me that I wasn’t hearing things that my kids related to that I couldn’t embrace. When they did hit on something, I was like, Finally! When they started listening to $uicideboy$ I was like, ‘That’s it. That checks the boxes. It’s really loud, I can’t really relate, I don’t really want to listen to it. I understand exactly why it’s good and I see exactly the music it’s combining, but I don’t need to participate and I’m good with that.’”

The duo – founded by $crim and his cousin, Ruby da Cherry, in 2014 – is from Louisiana’s Seventh Ward, a violent, neglected, crime-ridden section of New Orleans. Hailed by XXL Magazine as “one of the fastest growing acts in hip-hop right now,” $uicideboy$ have played Lollapalooza and completed sold-out tours of the U.S., Europe and Asia.

$uicideboy$ began work on the album in early 2017, planning to write about their experiences on the road and how their lives had become slightly more extravagant. The focus shifted along the way, leading $uicideboy$ to reconsider the album’s original title, I Don’t Wanna Die in New Orleans.

They explained the change in title to fans in an Instagram post, which read in part: “After traveling the globe on two back2back sold out world tours, amassing a fortune, spending an insane amount of money on drugs, losing friends, making “enemies” and witnessing this scene that we helped create turn into what it is now, we have decided that none of this fame or money will ever make us happy. For a second there we thought it would. Therefore, we are changing the album title to…I Want To Die In New Orleans.”

For Ruby, the aesthetic aspirations, failures, and redemptions innate to I Want To Die In New Orleans are a natural evolution for artists of his generation, who grew up with Odd Future as its Nirvana, Earl Sweatshirt as their Kurt Cobain.

“After I heard Earl Sweatshirt, I took everything I’d done up to that point and threw it in the trash,” Ruby says. “What he did was immature and graphic on the surface, but so clever and thought provoking – Earl changed everything. But then Lil Ugly Mane’s mixtape Mista Thug Isolation took things to an extreme we didn’t even think was possible. Kids are looking for that kind of artist to take things to that next level of insanity, where you don’t know what’s going to happen next, and that’s what we’re trying to do with our next moves. But we do this for ourselves and don’t fucking care about anything else. The only thing that changes with our records is our lives. We’ve said, ‘Fuck money and fame’ before – we’re just not broken anymore.”

“We needed to get out of there to get here,” adds $lick. “We make music for people who don’t know who they are, and where they belong. That’s the whole philosophy behind $uicideboy$: nothing is ever permanent – especially life.”

$uicideboy$ have racked up more than one billion streams worldwide across their entire catalog and have more than 3.5 million followers across social media.

$uicideBoy$ last toured Australia for Origin NYE in 2017. They had previously toured in May 2017, selling out Manning Bar in Sydney and Max Watts in Melbourne.

Since the release of her debut album Friends with Feelings in April 2018, things have really taken off for Melbourne based singer-songwriter and proud Wergaia / Wemba Wemba woman Alice Skye.

The album has been popular with the media and listeners alike, premiering on ABC Local Radio programs across the country, being added to double J rotation and featured on both Spotify and Apple Music.

Alice recently performed a gorgeous live duet with Emily Wurramarra on ABC TV’s The Tonightly Show with Tom Ballard, and after collaborating with Trials & Ziggy Ramo for NAIDOC Week, she was selected by triple j Unearthed as the artist they will present at the 2018 National Indigenous Music Awards.

Now, following her sell-out launch tour, Alice will headline her own show at The Gasometer Hotel on Thursday 11 October with good friends Georgia Maq (Camp Cope)
and Kalyani (Willow Beats).

Melbourne’s own Georgia “Maq” McDonald from Aussie alt rock trio Camp Cope will be given the chance to air her new songs live in a rare solo support slot, with Kalyani – one half of electronic duo Willow Beats – also opening for Alice on the night.

With mesmerising vocals and evocative lyrics, Alice has been capturing musical hearts nationwide. Now paired with Maq and Kalyani, this special Springtime show is not to be missed!

Getting on the diet train isn’t easy but DIET are certainly making a good go of it. Just check out their press pic as evidence. The beloved Melbourne five piece proudly today announce the release of their new EP Sundown in late August – right before showcasing at Brisbane’s BIGSOUND.

To celebrate the release, these five best mates have added a bunch of extra East Coast dates in August and September which will wrap up at ‘Hills City’ alongside The Bennies, BATTS and more. Plus they were just announced for NYE On The Hill this week.

DIET formed over a love of all things Captured Tracks Records in a ramshackle share house at the end of the Northern line of The Tube in London. There was a Smiths poster on the wall which may have something to do with triple j presenters describing their knack for nostalgic synthesizers and playful guitar lines as “shimmering with the sound from an alternate universe where Morrissey grew up beside the beach.”

Following the release of their debut EP and sold out shows, DIET bunkered down with local producer Dan ‘Caz’ Caswell to create a wave of new material. The result is their Sundown EP, a collection of tracks that shine like a Brit-pop laden sunset – the first single, jangly ‘Take Me’ gained the band spot rotation on triple j. Next came an ode to bass player Carlos Tinsey’s brother, ‘Danny Boy’ in early 2018 and there’s another surprise video in the works for a final single very soon. Recorded in Caz’s studio the Alamo over the last twelve months as well as few final touches at Red Door Studios in Collingwood, Sundown is proudly homegrown.

Recently scoring a place on the New World Artists booking roster DIET wrapped a huge run of shows alongside Polish Club and West Thebarton across the East Coast – adding to their already extensive supporting roster which includes Slum Sociable and Alex Lahey. Most recently the band fronted a national support spot for British India and played Cherry Rock Festival alongside Cosmic Psychos, The Chats and Gabriella Cohen.

Described by Tone Deaf as “one of the tightest and most entertaining live bands you’ll find”, DIET bring their infectious live show to somewhere near you this August and September. Don’t miss them promote their new release on the road for some calorie crunching’ fun.

FourPlay String Quartet announces east coast shows to launch
‘Wish’: a powerful, haunting ballad about living in a climate-changed world

FourPlay put the ‘eclectic’ back into ‘electric string quartet’ with their second new single, ‘Wish’, a powerful, haunting ballad about living in a climate-changed world. As with previous release, ‘Bound’, the digital-only release of ‘Wish’ is available now exclusively via Bandcamp and will be officially be released Friday 10 August. The release will include archival remixes of FourPlay songs, and to celebrate the band will play east coast shows in Canberra, Melbourne, Nambour, Brunswick Heads, and Sydney during September.

FourPlay, who have been wowing audiences around the world for over 20 years with both their radical reinventions of pop songs and their wildly eclectic original material, have often had environmental and political themes in their music.

‘Wish’ takes this to the next step: a haunting ballad with tones of Not Drowning Waving and ‘70s folk protest songs, with powerful lyrics delivered passionately by Tim Hollo and Lara Goodridge, intricate viola lines from Shenzo Gregorio, and a soaring, poignant cello solo from Peter Hollo.

‘Wish’ began life when the band was trapped behind rising floodwaters while enjoying the Bundanon Trust’s Artist-In-Residency program in the Southern Highlands of NSW. Tim’s older daughter kept calling to make sure he was OK and, at one point, said to him “I wish that I’d been born before climate change was happening.” Tim, a long-time environmental activist and founder of Green Music Australia, said those words “hit me in the guts”. The conversation inspired this song, with the message that “we can’t wish away the times we’ve been given; we have to do with them what we can.”

Produced by Justin Tressider (Macy Gray, Wolfmother) and FourPlay at Sony Music Studios, Sydney and Hydrofunk HQ, Mullumbimby, ‘Wish’ is classic FourPlay sound with a new flavour, and has already had audiences moved to tears at live performances.

‘Wish’ includes five archival remixes from the band’s Now To The Future album, unreleased until now. Indeed it is the album’s title track, ‘Now To The Future’ being reworked as glitchy post-rock by Brisbane’s Chris Perren, experimental noise by Canberra’s Shoeb Ahmad, and two very different, beautiful drone works from Adelaide’s Panoptique Electrical and Melbourne’s Part Timer. The 5-track release closes with a radical electro-pop reworking of ‘You’ve Changed Your Tune’ by Sydney’s ollo.

Over the weekend the Caufield Racecourse bought together under one roof three massive levels of all things guitar for players and enthusiast to enjoy.

The first floor compromised of all things electric with the gang from Reverb talking about their music marketplace and educational website. Not just a market place but a whole music community website to connect with like minded individuals.

For the gadget person Fusion guitars were demonstrating the latest in technology with an integrated iPhone dock, amp, speakers and battery, the Fusion Guitar redefines what an electric guitar is, and what it can do – pretty impressive stuff and very cool.

If that wasn’t enough to get you excited, then special guests Bec Sandridge and Harts dropped into the Fender stand to demo the latest range and play a few surprise songs for everyone.

For the acoustic lovers the second floor was the place to be. Maton, Cole Clark and Wasburn rubbed shoulders with some of the most beautifully crafted acoustic guitars all in one place. At the Maton stand guitar maker Zac Eccles was on hand to talk all things guitar. Whilst you may not know his name his work as the guitar maker for King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard you will know.

The event was a two day affair jam packed with music, the chance to try out gear and listen to some amazing music being played by numerous special guests and performers. Even if you can’t play it was a great chance to appreciate the beauty of all things guitar.
