On a chilly evening in Northcote, a crowd of dedicated fans stand before three women that are forging a path for themselves, breaking new ground and making history.
On their Inaugural tour of Australia, Indonesia’s first all women metal band takes to the stage, fearlessly.
Opening with ‘ Not Public Property’ the trio establish pretty quickly that they mean business. They are in sync, playing well as a group, and the performance is captivating.
Lead singer Firda Marsya Kurnia tells the audience of how she would play Monopoly as a child, and Melbourne was one of the cities in the game she would play, but she could never afford to buy it. And now, here she is playing in front of a Melbourne crowd.
Playing through their songs “ PMS” and launching into “ We Will Rock You” the crowd are enjoying how the girls both take their music seriously, but also seem very relaxed on stage.
Delivering a cover of Anthrax’s song “ Got The Time”- which is a cover of a Joe Jackson song the girls move through the show at a good pace, the audience clearly enjoying every minute.
Whether they are singing in English or singing in Sundanese the energy is fun, relaxed and really enjoyable. The girls engage with each other, and include the audience in the conversation.
To take something that is so taboo in their native Indonesia, be brave enough to weather the storm of death threats and rise above it to create music that means something is truly admirable. The girls not only put on a great show, they are fantastic role models for women all over the world.
