Fergus Neal: Boy
Trades Hall
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Five Stars
In the back of the building at the historic Trades Hall, Fergus Neal is posing quite a few questions this evening for his show Boy.
What exactly is the Manosphere, and if the men all lived in Melbourne, what characteristics would be assigned to them?
Kicking off confidently, and scolding an audience member for smuggling in a packet of Party Mix to the show Fergus Neal is hilarious the moment the show begins.
I’m 29, I’m 29. All my friends magically, they just caught ADHD. I don’t know what’s happened, but they’ve all just, at the same time, they’ve just collectively decided, we have it now, all right? he tells us with a grin.
Over the next hour Fergus makes the audience his friends. Whether he’s encouraging the over 50s to try ketamine, or harassing a fourteen year old about learning to drive, he mocks people with a cheek that only an Australian can get away with- and he does it well. Nobody is safe from Fergus, he dishes out jokes all the way up to the back row.
He talks about his “ professional autistic” brother on the NDIS, makes fun of the comments section on Instagram and tells a series of funny stories.
However, it’s the ramblings of Bob Katter that is the funniest part. Having received a very odd DM from Katter we get the full story and it’s unhinged.
Neal is a natural storyteller, he’s at ease on the stage- telling stories like they’re coming to him as he’s telling us. He’s engaging, his crowd work is polished and exceptional and he’s simply a funny guy. It’s quite amusing that the party mix has become part of the show- and so random that someone would bring it to a show, but each time he brings it up it’s hilarious.
Fergus Neal’s Boy is a delightful show full of great stories and engaging comedy that is a wonderful show to watch. At only 29, Neal has the stage presence of a seasoned performer, and his show is one laugh after another.
Fergus Neal: Boy is now playing at Trades Hall.
