Victoria K
Leadbeater Hotel, Melbourne
Saturday June 13
Dressed in chain mail and a long black skirt, her raven hair flowing Victoria K is the epitome of goth metal. As she writhes, throwing her hair back and forth, she is here to get the attention of the audience at Leadbeater. The rain outside is cold and damp, but the atmosphere is charged inside as fans listen, completely captivated. Having recently released a new track “Oh So Weary” from the upcoming third album “The Pleasure Of Sorrow”, dedicated fans have come together to celebrate the release.
Warming up the crowd are locals, She Weaves Grotesqueries, Beautiful Bedlam and Binary Pulse, the latter delivering a beautiful rendition of Massive Attack’s ” Teardrop” , a beautiful song in it’s own right, sounding almost ethereal in it’s delivery.
Having been awarded a beautiful rendition of Madonna’s “Frozen” a heavy rendition of the iconic 1998 ballad, which works surprisingly well and is probably the highlight of the show. Veronika’s voice is suited to the track and it gives a new lease of life on a song that at it’s core is poetically melancholic. Playing the debut single towards the end of the set is a smart move, and the audience rewards the band with thunderous applause and calls for ” One more song” to which the band responds- ” Come to more of our shows”.
It is without a doubt that this band are on their way to bigger and better things, and a crowd that is reluctant to leave long after the final note is testament to this. As the rain pelted down outside, the show has delighted dedicated fans and won over new adorers in this band room in Richmond.
