There are few tales more compelling than the rise of Melbourne’s enigmatic producer, artist and songwriter Running Touch. The elusive and multi-faceted creative has spent the best of the past few years fast cementing himself as not just an incredible musician and performer but forward-thinking visionary in every sense of the word. Through his music, live-show and identity (or lack of thereof) Running Touch has curated a multi-dimensional brand that gives a focus to storytelling through art, performance and music and sits in a realm that is matched by few.

Earlier this year, electro superstar What So Not broke beating beat loving hearts around the world when he announced he was taking a break from music, the success of his debut studio album ‘Not All The Beautiful Things’ (2018) and a subsequent gruelling global tour schedule that saw him do close to 400 shows in three years, had understandably taken a toll. News: 🚨 Josh Pyke Partnership Announces 2020 Winner 🚨

The Josh Pyke Partnership is thrilled to announce the winner for 2020 is Melbourne based singer-songwriter Bec Sykes.

Made possible by Josh Pyke and APRA AMCOS, the partnership provides an unsigned musician or band with the opportunity to receive mentorship and funding that will help to grow their career.

“I’m still pinching myself. It’s a massive vote of confidence to have people like Josh and the team say they believe in my music. Receiving this grant means I can record my songs and get closer towards releasing my first body of work. Plus being mentored by such notable people in the Aus music industry will be invaluable. As a completely independent artist, winning this is a huge leg up for my career and I’m so grateful. My heart is beating very fast.” – Bec Sykes

A message from Josh…

Judging the JP Partnership is never an easy task. We’re in our 6th year now, and I take it really seriously. So many great entries come across my desk that it’s hard to choose, and it causes me no small amount of heartache that I can’t offer the opportunity to more than just one deserving winner. But that’s also the joy of it; seeing and hearing how many inspired and inspiring emerging artists there are out there. When you’re compelled to create, nothing will stop you, I know that from my own life, but also from being a fan, advocate and deep observer of the arts over the years.

Covid-19 has presented lots of very real challenges for the arts community, and there are ongoing issues that threaten our community in a way that will make it hard for some folks to keep creating their art. That fairly dire situation is why it gives me such great joy to announce something positive into the ether during this time.

It’s with enormous pleasure to introduce you to this years JP Partnership winner: Bec Sykes!

Bec’s entry included a well considered and realistic business plan, and had laid out exactly how she’d use the money. But it was her song ‘Edithvale’ that set her entry apart this year. Something about this song resonated with me in a similar way that Julia Jacklin’s or Phoebe Bridgers’ work does. Bec’s music is very different from those artists, but I felt the same potential for a large and devoted audience to discover her voice and become fans for life. The imagery in the song was intimate and vast at the same time, cinematic and personal.

Congratulations Bec, I’m really looking forward to seeing your music enter the world, and travel and connect with people the way that great art does, particularly at a time when we mere mortals can’t do that ourselves!

Earlier this week, the heaviest and catchiest extreme metal act from the Lone Star State since the original cowboys from hell, FIT FOR A KING, announced the release details for their sixth studio album, ‘The Path’ – out Friday September 18th through Solid State Records. Today, they have released single and video ‘God of Fire’.

Album six, The Path, is a definitive masterpiece. Today it is with great excitement that I OH YOU present DMA’S highly anticipated third studio album, THE GLOW, with a spotlight on the band’s new single ‘Criminals’.

Recorded and mixed by multi-Grammy Award winning producer Stuart Price (The Killers, New Order, Madonna) at the historic Westlake Recording Studios in Hollywood, THE GLOW is a step up for the band in every sense. With two top #10 ARIA albums, 4x ARIA-nominations, and multiple ARIA Platinum and ARIA Gold singles already under their belt, THE GLOW marks a leap forward for DMA’S that is bigger, bolder and brighter than ever, and shows just how far they’ve come.

DMA’S 2016 debut album Hill’s End was recorded in guitarist Johnny Took’s rundown Newtown apartment, where they would start the day by flipping a mattress up against the wall in an attempt to block out the traffic noise from a nearby highway. This time, working with one of the world’s most renowned producers (in a studio once frequented by Quincy Jones) the band were able to take their song writing to the next level, resulting in an anthemic pop record that sees the band fulfil their world-class potential with a collection of songs destined for arenas. From the New Order meets Pet Shop Boys dance vibes of ‘Life Is A Game Of Changing’ to the heartfelt, Lennon-esque ‘Learning Alive’, THE GLOW is a collection of fresh, impassioned songs that push the boundaries of what DMA’S “are” while proving their unwavering ability to write sensational and timeless songs.

THE GLOW’s huge first single ‘Silver’ debuted into the world in late 2019 and has become DMA’S fastest streaming song to date (with over 8.5 million streams in the space of a few months). Quickly championed by fans across the country, ‘Silver’ was voted #20 in triple j’s Hottest 100 of 2019 (their 6th consecutive year in the countdown). Follow-up single ‘Life Is A Game Of Changing’ took the band to another level, premiering on the UK’s BBC Radio 1 and landing ‘Record Of The Week’ on the UK’s Radio X, later receiving official remixes from dance royalty Orbital, Melbourne producer Willaris. To celebrate the release of THE GLOW, this week DMA’S announced an intimate run of stripped-back shows at Sydney’s Factory Theatre in July/Aug. Due to unprecedented pre-sale demand for the first 12 dates revealed, last night the band added an additional and final six shows. In line with updated regulations around live entertainment, the band will be playing to limited capacity crowds, with the multiple shows giving more fans a chance to be some of the first in the world to hear their new material live for the very first time. News: David Gray reschedules AU-NZ dates for ‘White Ladder: The 20th Anniversary Tour’ to November 2021

WHITE LADDER: THE 20TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR TO NOVEMBER 2021

Chugg Entertainment and Frontier Touring wish to advise that David Gray’s White Ladder: The 20th Anniversary Australian and New Zealand Tour has been rescheduled, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and Federal and State Government directives. The tour, originally scheduled for November-December 2020, will now take place in November 2021.

David Gray had this message for his fans –

Hello Australia, Hello New Zealand,
I finally have some important information to share with you about the inevitable rescheduling of The White Ladder Anniversary dates – all dates will now be happening in 2021. All existing tickets remain valid so please hang on to those.

At the moment everything feels a bit like being in some weird David Cronenberg film in which impending events keep moving off further and further into the future, but rest assured, these shows will happen! And when they do happen they’re going to be charged with a heightened sense of joy and celebration.

Thank you for your patience, stay safe, keep the faith and I’ll see you all next year.

The tour will now begin in Fremantle, before heading through Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney, Christchurch and Wellington, and concluding at Auckland’s Spark Arena on Saturday 27th November 2021.

Multi-platinum, multi-Brit and Grammy-nominated David Gray last year announced his White Ladder world tour, to celebrate the trailblazing album’s 20-year anniversary. At the shows, the 7 million record-selling White Ladder will be performed in its entirety by Gray, together with all the original band members and with all the original equipment – as well as a set of the greatest hits.

Ticketholders are encouraged to hold onto their tickets; all tickets will be valid for the corresponding rescheduled dates – you do not need to do anything, your existing tickets will be valid for entry on the new dates.

Patrons who are unable to attend the rescheduled shows should contact their authorised point of purchase to request a refund.

Chugg Entertainment and Frontier Touring apologise to any ticketholders who are inconvenienced by these rescheduled dates and thank fans for their support and understanding during these unprecedented circumstances.

Multidisciplinary Geelong-based folk artist Momoko Rose announces single release for introspective art piece, ‘Humans Weep’, a product of the $10,000 Emerging Artist Grant awarded to the Rose in 2019 for Queenscliff Music Festival.

An artist unafraid to explore wounded subjects and raw emotions, Rose navigates current family trauma and the uneasy revelations that are uncovered from past estranged maternal circumstances. Through assessment and acceptance of her childhood and unfortunate household breakdown resulting in financial hardship, Rose birthed ‘Humans Weeps’, a web of misery built by social constructs and existential conflict.

“‘Humans Weep’ is written from the perspective of being overwhelmed with life to the point of apathy. The simple opening lyric “Duller than a bad dream, not even tragic like a movie scene” sums up how sometimes life can deal you a bad hand that you can’t even extract any drama or poetry from, it just leaves you raw,” Rose explains.

“I wrote this song in what was the aftermath of an extremely overwhelming family conflict, which caused a complete paradigm shift in my outlook on life. It was a surreal feeling because even though I had clarity and felt better than I had about myself since I was born, I also truly thought that I could not feel or lose any more than I already had at the time. It’s pretty devastating for anyone to realise that while their childhood obviously had issues (which is normal) it was still not as great as we thought or would have liked it to be. These realisations and sense of loss from everything happening left me breaking down into tears most days, then every week and then every so often until I could regain a sense of stability. If not for my partner and close friends, I don’t know if I would have made it through this trying time. Braving this has given me a newfound confidence and I now accept what has happened to me without regretting the decisions I have made along the way.  While ‘Humans Weep’ may not specifically be about these events, it was definitely birthed from them and their context which marks a pivotal point in my life.”

Written in 2018 and recorded late last year in the home studio of Isaac Barter (Didirri, BATTS) with her permanent band, Rose explores a new sonicscape, aesthetically trying to capture dawn/dusk as a landscape through sound with warm mellow guitars contrasting cold violins, still cricket sound grabs and intimate melodies.

“Sonically, this was a pretty new direction for me. From the beginning, I wanted to convey a sense of monotony in the song due to its themes of apathy towards life. I tried to do this by only moving between two (sometimes three) chords for the majority of the song through the verses and with these specific chords the only change between them is one note moving by a semitone,” Rose says.

“This was a purposeful choice which was honestly pretty restraining for me as I normally try to embellish songs with chord/key/rhythm changes, so to keep it interesting was a challenge. However, this lets the lyrics shine through which I believe are the strongest part of the song. Overall, the sonic vision for this song is an audible departure from the acoustic nature and intensity on my debut EP.”

Humans Weep will be available for streaming on all major platforms and will likely be on an upcoming EP titled “Anticlimactic Girl” set for release in 2021.

News: BRISBANE PRODUCER DU0 SIGNS WITH CENTRAL STATION RECORDS RELEASING ‘NUMBER FEAT. BRANDYN BURNETTE’

Brisbane based producer du0 makes his debut on Central Station Records with his highly emotive electronic track ‘Number feat. Brandyn Burnette’. The soul heavy vocal samples of Brandyn Burnette are complemented by the always expansive production of du0, involving harmonically rich atmospheric pads that provide melodically interesting moments throughout the track. Growing up in St Louis, Missouri, Brandyn Burnette has toured with some of the biggest names in the industry such as John Mayer and James Bay, while his track ‘State I’m In’ has garnered over seven million streams. Detailing how the collaboration came to be, du0 explains, “I’ve been a massive fan of Brandyn’s vocals for a few years and had always loved his progressive soul style, that I thought would be perfect on this track. I reached out to him and he really dug the track and the rest was history.” 

While the progressive soul vocals of Burnette bring ‘Number’ to life, it is an extremely personal story to du0 that is deep-rooted in the single. du0 explains the meaning of the track, “the lyrics for ‘Number’ are very personal to me, it’s about a relationship that came to an end. Looking back now it had nothing to do with them, it was really due to the dark place that I was in at the time. I was stuck in the monotony of life and had become really numb. I was struggling to feel anything, which put unnecessary pressure on the relationship and ultimately caused it to end.”

In his two years of producing music, du0 has quickly made his mark as both an energizing electronic dance producer, and an emotion-provoking songwriter. Since his debut in 2018, the Australian producer has gone from strength to strength, with his 2020 hit ‘Come Home’’ surpassing half a million streams alone, while his songwriting has earned him an LA Music Award, and gaining recognition as a finalist at the International Songwriting Competition, with judges such as Coldplay and Tom Waits.
