The latest offering from Australian producer Mark Maxwell, is sure to get listeners moving with his aptly titled record ‘Dance’. Kicking off with an explosive sultry vocal, the record then transcends into a dance-floor heater. Drawing inspiration from Chemical Brothers and Soulwax, the track see’s the emerging producer further explore warping synth patterns and brings disco elements into a driving tech house record.

Mark Maxwell elaborates on this inspiration for the track, “Long before the sweaty nightclubs and endless days in the studio, I had Chemical Brothers and Soulwax blaring through the headphones of my Sony Walkman. I’ve been a bit nostalgic over the last few months, and been revisiting some of my favourites from the early 2000s and I feel this is the kind of music we need right now. It’s robust, it’s focused, but undeniably fun. DANCE is a collage of sorts – as I’ve been stuck in my studio, I’ve been collecting different vocals, noises, and synths and finding a way to piece them all together. I want this song to be your get up and go on Monday morning. It’s your PT yelling for one more set. It’s your first drink on a Friday afternoon.”

SUICIDE SILENCE will be “virtually” everywhere throughout the month of July with a 39 date “Virtual World Tour” running July 2 – July 30 that spans 14 countries & 5 continents. Following the release of her 2019 two-track, debut EP, ‘Equality’, the multifaceted Belgian unveils a new four-track EP entitled ‘Let Me Hold You’. Already receiving early support from Mixmag, ‘Let Me Hold You’ is out now via ‘Eva Swan Records’.

Exploring elements of industrial sounds and influences which have become the trademark of Eva Swan, ‘Vous voulez rester?’ and ‘Together’ use haunting vocal samples to contrast against powerful percussion and modular esque synths. ‘Let Me Hold You’ plays with rests and sirens to conjure a driving and powerful journey, whilst ‘Keep The Faith’s’ dystopian melody creates an assured dance floor production which will find its way into many sets of like-minded artists.

Eva Swan has a strong foundation in music, having started to learn music theory at the age of 8, along with the guitar and flute by the age of 12, before the piano later at 18. Eva Swan’s entry point into electronic music came through working in clubs such as Belgium’s famous Café d’Anvers and Kompass Club, along with EGG London, before taking a one-way flight to Ibiza.

As a promoter on the white isle, Eva Swan became immersed in the scene, becoming well-acquainted with clubs, DJ’s and the variation of sounds around her, accelerating her propensity for club-geared sounds. Teaming this with her early proficiency for classical forms and instruments, Eva’s sound encompasses a distinct appreciation for raw music elements. Having appeared on line-ups at venues such as the previously mentioned, Café d’Anvers Antwerp, and Fuse Brussels, alongside the likes of I HATE MODELS, Amelie Lens, Deborah De Luca and OXIA, ‘Equality’, Eva Swan’s debut EP paved the way for her ascension into electronic music – gaining media support from Complex, Soundwall, Attack Magazine and KALTBLUT.

The most impressive thing Meg Washington does is write great songs.

Washington’s lead single Dark Parts was raucously received, and now arrives the official video and artwork for her new album, Batflowers, released August 28th. 

The music video for Dark Parts has been scooped directly out of Meg’s brain, collaborating with film director and partner Nick Waterman to create a desktop facetime call to the dark side, featuring spookily animated incarnations of Washington over her frankly quite bonkers career. 

Working with New Farm neighbourhood pal Konstantin Kersting (Mallrat, Tones and I, The Jungle Giants) – and polished by Meg’s frequent co-writer and collaborator Sam Dixon (Sia, Adele), Dark Parts received rave reviews from the likes of The Guardian, Junkee, Rolling Stone, NME, airplay across the country plus admiration from BBC Radio 1 in the UK.  

The creation of, ‘Batflowers’, was an exercise in getting to the raw guts of why anyone makes music at all. This search ultimately armed Meg with a kind of brazen bolshiness, handing her a baton long presumed lost so that now she can finally run the whole damn show.  

“I’ve realised this is where I’m strongest – being given complete trust and full creative freedom in my work. My incredible team enabled me to be involved on every level of the creative process and let me get as weird as I want. It’s a fantastic feeling.” 

We’re talking songwriting, art direction, photography, frame-by frame hand animation, engineering, A&R, music video directing. The entire kit and kaboodle of the album-making process. With a Kanye-esque confidence that only comes from taking back full control; she’s hand-picked producers for their vibe, like John Congleton (Moses Sumney, St Vincent, Angel Olsen), Dave Hammer (Jess Kent, Mia Rodrigues, Genesis Owusu) and Japanese Wallpaper (Mallrat, Allday). The album also features cameo appearances from a curious range of performers like Sam Fischer and Stella Mozgawa (Warpaint). Little rhyme or reason, unless of course you’re the one writing the story. 

“The album in full is very narrative and to me it works like the soundtrack to a musical. Aside from the actual songs, there is a lot of sound design and audio-cinema including a thunderstorm, birdsong, dreamscapes and 500 year-old church bells. It was written and recorded all over the world from Joshua Tree in California, Switzerland, Berlin, Adelaide, and finished during lockdown on Minjerribah (Stradbroke Island).  I also had to record some vocals inside a rental car.”.

Thrilling singer, songwriter and visual artist, PARKER has today shared her fierce and empowering new single and video, Superhuman, a powerhouse indie electro track with an 80s wash and a commanding message about being brave and evolving, complemented by an extraordinarily cinematic video clip that could easily be mistaken for the trailer of the next Hollywood blockbuster. PARKER will be celebrating her bold new single with two livestream single launch shows on July 2 (electronic show) and July 16 (acoustic show).

Written by PARKER in collaboration with and produced by Hans Van Vliet, and mixed and mastered by Becki Whitton, Superhuman is an 80s soaked electro dream, transported by the unmistakable, glassy voice of Tash Parker. With oscillating stratified synths bubbling throughout, Superhuman is steeped in nostalgia and will be lapped up by fans of Robyn, Bjork and Portishead.

“Superhuman is about being brave, facing your fears and evolving,” explains Tash. “I wrote it in response to developing anxiety and insomnia a few years ago. Dealing with the challenges led me on a journey of self discovery. I learned meditation techniques and developed a fitness/health practice that brings me to today feeling superhuman. Overcoming my worst fears and facing my problems head on wasn’t easy but it’s given me the gumption to tackle anything that challenges me.”

As we all face the anxiety and uncertainty of the Covid-19 crisis, now more than ever we need inspiration and encouragement to become strong and resilient in the face of adversity. Interestingly, Tash says, “I have a collection of words that I wrote down when I first was developing PARKER – brave, unexpected, powerful and graceful. Each time I work on a song or any of the art accompanying it, I keep these words in the front of my mind and this song and those words feel incredibly relevant for these times.”

Accompanied by a masterful film clip that was created and co-produced by PARKER’s long-time audio and visual collaborator, Hans Van Vliet, the video was made in the game engine, Unity and takes inspiration from 80s cinema. PARKER offers insight into the video’s essence and the deep thought and workings that saw this video become a reality, saying, “We wanted to tell the story of a character who works hard to rebuild itself and evolves to become superhuman. Set in another world, the clip starts in a magical cave with 3 distinct light colours of red, gold and cyan symbolising the past, present and future respectively. The pulsing light represents the heart or essence of a being. Outside the cave is The Oracle which represents the higher self or future self. We are made up of our past, our present and our future potential, and only when these three elements are embraced can we become superhuman.”

Chatting about her livestream shows in July, Tash insights, “Just before the lockdown we were all set to go for national touring this year, so it felt like a false start in regards to launching my new live show. Luckily my band and sound engineer all live in Launceston and we are able to do a livestream show. We will be presenting one full band and production show, and an acoustic show with stripped back arrangements of the songs, plus some new material that I have written during iso. Unfortunately for the full production shows you won’t be able to feel the subs hit you in the chest unless you have a massive sound system at home, but the audio will be super high quality so I can recommend getting some really nice headphones to listen to the show on. I love the idea of people at home finding a comfy space to lay down with their eyes closed while we perform.”

Translating to “If You Want Peace, Prepare For War,” the album features 13 new tracks, a primal mix of euphoria and misery, undoubtedly some of the strongest material of SEETHER’s illustrious career, including the beautifully tormented first single ‘Dangerous’ released today alongside an animated music video created by noted Turkish director Mertcan Mertbilek (Santana, Ray Charles, Ravi Shankar, Elvis Costello).

“These songs are carefully crafted to nestle in your ears like a tiny velvet rabbit clutching a switch-blade,” says front man Shaun Morgan, his flair for vivid imagery on full display. That bold openness strikes a chord musically and lyrically on songs that explore and eviscerate demons both personal and cultural. “This whole album is kind of me going through that process. I’m exposing myself to a degree I’m not normally comfortable with,” he says. “But I think it’s OK. I’m proud to be a little bit more vulnerable on this album.”

Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum, SEETHER’s eighth studio album, was produced by Morgan and engineered and mixed by Matt Hyde (Deftones, AFI) in Nashville from December 2019 through January 2020. The band is joined on the album by newest member, Corey Lowery (ex-guitarist/vocalist for Saint Ansonia and Stuck Mojo) Morgan’s friend of 16 years, who also assistant-engineered the album. “Corey has a lot of experience and is an inspiring guitarist as well; he’s the older brother I’ve always wanted,” Morgan added. SEETHER’s rock-solid rhythm section is bassist and founding member Dale Stewart, and drummer John Humphrey (who joined in 2003.)

The push-pull on Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum is as dynamic as it is memorable as Morgan brings his intimate singer-songwriter sensibility to the band’s heavy rock grooves. Drawing on influences including the dark and raw honesty of grunge’s epic guitar attack and the South African underground punk and metal that Morgan (and Stewart) grew up on, SEETHER’s sonic brew is unmistakable and timeless.

The new album’s haunting, unforgettable ‘Dangerous’ is an instant standout. While the band prefers to leave “Dangerous” open to interpretation, lyrics like, “It’s so dangerous all this blamelessness / and I feel like I lost all the good I’ve known” are a passionate and pointed indictment of self and society at large. “Beg,” where Morgan snarls, “See hope fading out of your eyes / This time the pain is going to feel unreal,” is similarly unrelenting. The chorus’s point-blank demand, “beg, motherfucker!” is a primal rock rallying cry. Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum’s brutal but beautiful lyrics infuse these songs with cathartic urgency like this from the track “Failure,”: “I live my life like a broken-hearted failure / I’m trying to shed some light on the scars left by the razors.”

With touring paused, the ever-active SEETHER has posted a series of on-line sessions via social media featuring band members at home, including livestream Q&As and acoustic performances from Shaun Morgan, cooking instructionals with Dale Stewart, crossfit workouts with Corey Lowery and drumming playthroughs with John Humphrey. Uncovering more of her story by exploring personal battles and triumphs through honest lyrics and infectious dark melodies, ‘Trigger Heavy’ is the third and arguably most powerful release from Sammi Constantine in 2020 so far.

“‘Trigger Heavy’ is a hard-hitting reality check for people who continuously self-project their insecurities and bitterness onto those around them. It is about finally standing up for myself, after a toxic whirlwind of emotional manipulation – taking back what I rightfully own and what I made for myself, without the fear of being able to say no.”

This release sees the second collaboration with Cyrus (Client Liaison, Rory Adams, CXLOE, GRAACE) as co-write and producer following the release of ‘See What You See’ last month. The track was also co-written by Janeva Burrill (Starley, Glades, Allday) and mastered by Chris Gehringer (Halsey, Rhianna, Dua Lipa, Lady Gaga).

The single will be accompanied by a self-directed cinematic style music video, co-directed and filmed by Trystin Sinnott. Set to be released Tuesday 26th May, the video takes a more playful approach to her trademark dark edge, portraying a tongue and cheek style story of Constantine’s endurance in relationships where she is being disrespected or manipulated. “I wanted to show a strong women taking a stand in situations where she is being taken advantage of, or not getting the respect she deserves. It is up to you to play with the outcome – you can be your own superhero in your story.”
