Inês is constantly questioning and equally rmly resolved when it comes to her relationships. She pens her frustrations and adorations across themes of abandonment, obsession and contentment through her musicians as they traverse from free improvised music into forged paths between structure and chaos. Her shows are raw and dependant on mood, she gives of herself in such a sensual and unique way it almost feels intrusive to watch.

King Coaster have had a busy start to 2019. With their latest single ‘Out of Time’ released at the beginning of May, they’re hot on the heels with the launch of their debut EP ‘Superflow’.
The EP is made up of six songs in total, including the latest single and the much loved ‘Miles Away’, which was released in January of this year and enthusiastically received by fans and critics alike, gaining Triple J airplay.
With a solid, punchy drum backdrop the bands music has everything it needs to appeal to a wide ranging audience. In fact the lofty sound of their recorded music defies the fact that as a live act these guys pack a serious blow to the crowd. With elements of QOTSA underlying their increasingly rock driven performances they’re the perfect combination of melody and grunge in an indie outfit.
‘Superflow’ was mixed and mastered at Inky Studios in Byron with local producer Jordan Power and a tour of the East Coast has been announced to coincide with the release. Dates include:
The Badlands have returned in 2019 with their highly anticipated new single ‘Ultraviolent’ released this June 4 and produced by Lacueva Studio’s Nick Didia. The song is nothing short of massive.
With a drum introduction that punches through the solar plexus like a cannonball at short range, there’s no way you won’t know about it.
With a solid reputation for gritty, addictive, rock n roll fuelled performances, the band are set to celebrate the release by taking to the road in May – June. The tour takes in The East Coast and Melbourne and also marks the bands comeback to the live stage in over 12 months, after suffering a multitude of injuries in 2018.
With 2019 now underway the band are set to release a solid catalogue of new music and continue with their rise of Rock n Roll notoriety.
Joining the band are fellow Byron indie rockers King Coaster, who are celebrating the release of their debut EP ‘Superflow’.
The shows promise to be ones of grand proportions with some much relished time on the stage and a host of new material ready to go.

Live Review: Crooked Colours at The Forum, Melbourne

Diamond shaped mirror balls light up the theatre and begin to create a strobe effect along to the pulsating beats. Crooked Colours make a strong start with ‘Come Back To You’ – a laid back tune that immediately captures our attention and gets us grooving along to the smooth electronica-pop. Tonight, the Australian trio are here to celebrate the release of their latest album ‘Langata’ and so quickly pick up the pace with their hit single ‘Hold On’. The hook-laden dance number is bursting with dreamy synthesisers and bouncy bass lines. “It’s always been a dream of ours to play here and to do two shows it’s amazing,” says lead vocalist Phillip Slabber. They’ve previously played this iconic venue supporting Crystal Castles in 2017 but this weekend has been extra special for them as the headliner playing music of their sophomore album.
Incorporating live drums, guitars, keyboards and synth, they have a distinct and cohesive sound that flows effortlessly from start to finish. It’s clear they’ve put a lot of thought into this set and have curated everything from the lighting to visual design to showcase their new music in the most powerful and engaging way possible. Each track takes us down a different path with a diverse layered production and a superb build-up of progressive sounds.
A couple of surprise guest vocalists join them on stage tonight including Owl Eyes (aka Brooke Addamo) to sing live vocals on ‘Never Dance Alone’ (originally recorded by Ladyhawke) and Ivan Ooze (aka Ben Townsend) for the particularly dance-induced party anthem ‘I Hope You Get It’. Exciting pyrotechnics light up the show with sparklers shooting up off the side of the stage to add a bit of ambience during the deep and heavy banger ‘I C Light’. To mix things up a bit they throw in their triple J Like A Version cover of Baby Bash’s ‘Suga Suga’, turning the noughties rnb hit into a indie slow jam with an unexpected and impressive rap from Slabber.
Despite being a Sunday night, Crooked Colours ensure that everyone has well and truly forgotten about having to wake up and go to work early tomorrow. They’re here to party and keep energy levels to a consistent high. ‘Flow’ and ‘I’ll Be There’ are clear crowd favourites and generate a huge response as the crowd throw their arms up in the air and jump on each other’s shoulders to take in every moment of their solid performance. They make it clear that there’ll be no encore tonight and go out with a huge finish, although the crowd would happily stay and party all night long but hang around until the venue lights come on.

Off the back of a brand new single release, distinguished Melbourne musician, Clio Renner is thrilled to share the music video for the heartfelt sounds of ‘Silly Girls’, as premiered via Clipped TV yesterday.
Written in response to the common trivialization of women in the music industry and beyond, ‘Silly Girls’ is an ode to all women who have been made to feel undermined, often by the male counterparts in their field.
Working with Director and Producer Bianca Milani, Clio allowed Bianca’s brilliant and creative mind to take one small ingredient, the song, and with what it meant to Clio (a celebration of the feminine absurd) to create and cook up one almighty delicious monstrosity of colour and characters.
The tongue-in-cheek video filmed at the Coburg Drive-In, has a bit of girl rule boys drool attitude, highlighting the notion that we see the filth in the humour and attitudes of men every day, but as women, it feels rather unacceptable.
With an all-star cast of Esita Morgan, Tilman Robinson, James Gilligan, Brian Campeau, Edward Fairlie, Angus Leslie, and Alexander Beck, Clio invites you to the table for to bask in a banquet fit for a queen set to the backdrop of delectable food design and elaborate costumes.

Jess Spahr isn’t your run of the mill musician. She picked up the violin at the age of 6, going on to train as a classical pianist. Young Jess started winning eisteddfods all around Sydney, receiving countless awards and high fives along the way.
In 2018 she recorded and released her debut single, ‘Betray Me’. The track channelled the electronic downtempo vibes of Morcheeba and picked up spins via unearthed and triple j. Over the past several months Jess has been writing and recording, churning out tracks to get a feel for her artistic sense of direction. This brings us to her follow up single, ‘Tensions’.
Despite being a quirky and catchy-as-hell slice of Electro Pop, the lyrical content of ‘Tensions’ is more serious, describing the challenges and unwarranted propositions most young women experience throughout life.
“Tensions was written about my personal experience with sexual harassment. Unfortunately an older man took the conversation I was having with him to a whole other level. It is an experience I have to say, no matter what age you are, still shocks you and you go back over in your head thinking ‘did I do something to lead him on like that?’. The answer is ‘HELL NO’.
So, to put a dampen on some of my rage and anger, my friend Luke Carra (also my producer) thought I should write about it. TOOK ME DAYS TO WRITE THE BLOODY LYRICS with Luke sitting there and saying ‘write about misogyny’. When composing the song I wanted it to be upbeat and not a ‘down and out, feeling sorry for myself’ kind of piece. I wanted the piece to be more of an anthem for women who get extremely irritated by men who think it is ok to touch us inappropriately. It is a totally ‘stick the middle finger in their face’ song.”

Serious lyrical content aside, Jess loves the collaborative nature of making music. She is delighted to have found her ideal collaborator and producer in Luke Carra from Sydney band, Caravana Sun.
“Luke has been a good friend of mine for many years and, not only has he helped create these songs, he has helped build me into an artist and really understand the ins and outs of the industry – he is a real support unit. He is great with ideas and hearing a whole piece of music – I usually come in with the foundations (my choruses are usually changed, cause they suck most of the time haha) and magic all happens within the studio; it is a real creative space.”

Born Jock Nowell-Usticke, BAYNK has seen a meteoric rise from sheer obscurity to the brink of breakout in just 2 years, with releases amassing 110MM+ collective plays. His releases are supported by beautiful visuals with collaborator/co-director Spencer Graves (Kendrick Lamar, Lauv), and his immaculate creative vision doesn’t end there; Jock is responsible for all art direction and artwork design (which he had shot by Korean photographer LINNNN), art directing his photo shoots (with photographer Eric Kelly), co-directing his live visuals (also with Spencer Graves and Tess Bjiere) and programming all his own lights for his impressive live show.

Isolated away in Darwin, We Burn Bridges has been carving their name into the local heavy music scene over the last few years. In 2016 the track “Coward” was nominated for Northern Territory’s Heavy Song of the Year.
