News: Media Release | Peak Twins Sign to Our Golden Friend, Announce New Album ‘Beloved’ and Share Single ‘Water’

Our Golden Friend are thrilled to welcome Melbourne’s Peak Twins to the Our Golden Friend label roster!

Peak Twins return with their second album, Beloved, out June 28. Following their self-titled debut LP from 2013, Beloved is a richly-rendered exercise in melodrama and melancholy. Today, the band share the debut single and video from Beloved, ‘Water’, premiering now at Weirdo Wasteland. The song had its radio premiere last week on Triple R’s Breaking & Entering.

James Frostick of Weirdo Wasteland describes Water as “a spectacular return to the spotlight for the group – setting a tone of emotional maturity and acceptance, no-doubt forged through the years of bruising and battering their soul has undergone in the period between recordings.”

Thanks to the song’s video, directed by Luke Byrne, ‘Water’ is accompanied by images of nature which have been inverted, made otherworldly. ‘Water’ is essentially a series of positive affirmations, the chorus of which reminds its listener that no matter how much strength one can muster: “Love don’t come easy at all”.

Beloved is out June 28 via Our Golden Friend. It’s available now to pre-order on blue vinyl.

Peak Twins launch ‘Water’ on May 17 at a Secret Collingwood Location alongside Sweet Whirl and Sleepless Nights (email info@ourgoldenfriend.com for the address).j

Interview: Kim Churchill

Kim Churchill is once again due to release his art into the world, we caught up with the talented Kim Churchill to scale rocks, talk about life, music and traveling the globe as a recording artist.

Kim Churchill is a young man living life by his design, and as he casually walks up Sydney Road in Brunswick, the environmentally conscious artist picks up trash left on the sidewalk by inconsiderate litterers. Today we are visiting a local beach to talk all things life and music.

With his wayward curls and genuine smile, Kim speaks about his life with great passion and enthusiasm. He’s been living out of a van for the past several months, camping where he finds a nice spot, and writing music.  It’s the kind of life that some only dream of, yet Kim is experiencing it pending time wherever his heart desires.

As we traverse through the busy streets of Melbourne and out towards the beauty of Half Moon Bay, our destination for today’s photo shoot, one gets the sense that Kim is one of the most genuine musicians that graces Australian stages.

There is an aura of calm about him; Kim is a person at ease in his environment and his place in it. He’s a surfer who never checks the surf report, a traveller who will spend nights camped in places that make him happy, however most of all, Kim is an authentic human being. There is no pretence with him and what you see is what you get- at times his enthusiasm for life just bubbles over the edges.
These life experiences resonate in his music, and have become the backdrop to new music that he is working on, which seems like the perfect melting pot for creativity. To just go with the flow and see where life takes you seems to be the best thing for creating his art.

We talk casually as the sounds of Boo Seeka play over the radio, Kim becoming excited by hearing his friend Ben’s voice. Kim seems to travel in circles of other creatives, passing them in his travels at festivals and gigs.
He speaks candidly of the surreal-ness of being on stage, the fans, the people that will talk through an entire show and the pretty girls that feel entitled to meet him. It seems at times there are elements of performance that don’t sit well with him, however through the guidance of friends he is learning to deal with it and take it in his stride. He’s learning to be more firm with people at shows that are disruptive and this is a growing process.
As we arrive at our destination Kim is instantly enthralled with the sandstone cliffs of Half Moon Bay and he is instantly at home in the beauty of the place. It’s like entering another world and Kim revels in being here.

He scales the cliffs with pure excitement and is the conqueror of this world. His curls haphazardly flying about in the wind, at all times a smile spreads wide across his face.
There is one thing about Kim that resonates with the people that he meets- if he gives you his time, he is present, in the moment and you have his full attention. He is genuine and in a world full of fake Instagram likes and minor celebrity it’s a refreshing breath of air to be around. There is no messaging people on his phone constantly, Kim is here and now.

As the afternoon winds to a close and Kim races off to another event; one thing that can be said is that this young man who is living a life less ordinary, is a remarkable human being. His art and contribution to the world will be a legacy that lives on.

News: Danko Jones album ‘A Rock Supreme’ out now, Australian tour starts May 30

DANKO JONES
‘A ROCK SUPREME’
ALBUM OUT NOW

‘A Rock Supreme’ album out now through Indica Records
The hard rock group DANKO JONES – whose music was recently hailed by Ghost Cult for “mix[ing] the bite of AC/DC and the swagger of Thin Lizzy with an impressive Clutch-like ferocity” – have released their new album “A Rock Supreme”! Danko’s current single “Dance Dance Dance” just climbed to #138 in the German Airplay Charts making it the highest charting non-domestic Rock track at radio in Germany!

They will return to their home country of Canada to perform a series of shows in their native Ontario, including a headlining performance at the Agency for the Performing Arts (APA) showcase during Canadian Music Week (CMW). From there, the group will embark on their first Australian tour in more than a decade presented by Silverback Touring – after which they’ll head to Europe to perform at a number of high-profile events, including the Sweden Rock Festival, the Highfield Festival in Germany and a Helsinki concert alongside The Offspring.

“A Rock Supreme” – which was produced by Garth “Gggarth” Richardson (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rage Against The Machine, Rise Against, Biffy Clyro) – is DANKO JONES’ follow-up to 2017’s acclaimed “Wild Cat,” which cracked the sales charts in Canada and eight European territories, achieving the group’s highest chart positions yet in Germany, France, Belgium and Switzerland. The album, which can be streamed in its entirety on Spotify, Apple Music and other digital platforms, can be ordered on CD or limited-edition ice blue gatefold vinyl at this location.

DANKO JONES – whose namesake front man contributed guest vocals to Volbeat’s 2017 #1 Active Rock hit “Black Rose,” a song he performed live with the group at their recent stadium show in Denmark (captured on the newly-released DVD/Blu-ray “Let’s Boogie! Live From Telia Parken”) – has made a name for themselves over the years as a must-see live band during memorable tours with the likes of Guns N’ Roses, Motörhead and Clutch. The group’s best-known material includes “Had Enough,” which earned the group their first gold and platinum singles in Sweden and has racked up more than 14 million Spotify streams; “Gonna Be A Fight Tonight,” which WWE used as the official theme song of the 2015 Royal Rumble; and “Lovercall,” their first of seven singles to crack the U.S. Active Rock Top 40.

DANKO JONES’ new album ‘A Rock Supreme’ is out now through Indica in Australia and New Zealand. Pre-Orders are available now at now at iTunes, Apple Music, JB Hi-Fi and Google Play!

News: 80’s Rock Royalty announce Ultimate 80’s Fluro Party!

RETURN OF THE 80’S
FEATURING
BRIAN MANNIX (UNCANNY X MEN), DALE RYDER (EX-BOOM CRASH OPERA), SCOTT CARNE (KIDS IN THE KITCHEN), ALLY FOWLER (CHANTOOZIES) & DAVE STERRY* (REAL LIFE)

Michael Jackson, Madonna, Duran Duran, Roxette, Billy Idol, Tina Turner, Bon Jovi, Robert Palmer… the eighties were undoubtedly a much more boundary-pushing era for music and pop culture as a whole. An era when the infamous words of “Eat My Shorts” was a narrative associated and popularised by Bart Simpson, though some may argue “The Breakfast Club”, and MTV created music’s superstars!

In the ultimate throwback to the decade of big hair and Rubik’s Cubes, the Ultimate 80’s Fluro Party will bring back those much loved 80’s anthems with a superstar band featuring those who helped popularize the music that was the landscape of the 80’s in Australia! Performing their own hits and the hits of other 80’s greats, this Fluro Party is the ultimate mix tape of 80s hits that has it all from Michael Jackson’s “Beat It” to Robert Palmer’s “Addicted To Love” to Duran Duran’s “RIO” and MANY MORE.

Featuring Uncanny X Men’s Brian Mannix, ex-Boom Crash Opera’s Dale Ryder, Kids In The Kitchen’s Scott Carne, The Angels’ James Morley, Chantoozies’ Ally Fowler and Real Life’s Dave Sterry (*Melbourne & Perth only), this party also features a live DJ, Fluro body painters, best dressed prizes and a superstar light and staging show.

Brian Mannix was formerly the lead singer of 1980s Melbourne band Uncanny X-Men, known for their hits such as “The Party” [#18, 1985], “I Am” [#18, 1986], “Don’t Wake Me” [#31, 1986] and their biggest hit “50 Years” [#4, 1985] which featured on the band’s debut album, ‘Cos Life Hurts which peaked at #3 on the Australian Kent Music Report in 1985.

Dale Ryder fronted Boom Crash Opera – one of Australia’s most successful bands in the 80’s – since their inception in 1985 until 2016. As the band’s singer, Boom Crash Opera had a succession of hits including debut single “Great Wall” [#5 in 1986], “Hands Up In The Air” [#16, 1986], “Her Charity” [#32, 1987], “Onion Skin” [#11, 1989], ”Get Out Of The House” [#24, 1989], and many more.

Scott Carne was a founding member of Kids In The Kitchen. They enjoyed chart success with four top-20 hits on the Australian Kent Music Report Singles chart including “Change in Mood” [#10, 1983], “Bitter Desire” [#17, 1984], “Something That You Said” [#19, 1985] and “Current Stand” [#12, 1985]. Their debut album Shine was the 16th-biggest selling album of 1985.

Ally Fowler was one of the four female lead vocalists of the 80’s band Chantoozies, which had top 10 hits with a cover version of “Witch Queen” [#4, 1987] and original tracks “Wanna Be Up” [#6, 1988], and top 40 peaks for “He’s Gonna Step on You Again” [#36, 1987] and Kiss ‘n’ Tell” [#25, 1988]. Their debut album peaked at #8 in 1988.

Dave Sterry from Melbourne 80s New Age band Real Life, achieved international chart success with their 1983 singles “Send Me an Angel” and “Catch Me I’m Falling”. “Send Me An Angel” reached the top 30 in Australia, Canada, Germany, New Zealand, Spain, Switzerland and the USA. Both singles appeared on the band’s debut album, Heartland, released in 1983.

It’s time to get big and bold! It’s time to pull out your dusty “CHOOSE LIFE” T-Shirts and it’s time to get totally amped to celebrate the 80’s in style! Word!
