Perth-born, Melbourne-based songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Alex Elbery takes an exuberant leap via his brand new single Ripcord. Releasing today with an accompanying whimsical music video, Ripcord is a warm and dynamic ode to falling in love, coated with billowing pop hues, driving alt rock undertones and an endearing Aussie tinge alongside heartfelt lyricism.

We caught up with him to ask him what his Dream Rider would be:

1. Some Boursin and a crispy baguette – Boursin is a delicious garlic cream cheese. I feel like that’s perfect for vocal warm ups. 
2. An indoor aviary full of cockatiels and exotic parrots that all want to hang out with me.
3. A wrestling ring – I don’t think I’d want to wrestle anyone per se, but I do think it would be fun to run around in it, do some flips and tumbles. Might be a good way to get the nervous energy out.
4. A massage. – I’d probably pull a muscle running around the wrestling ring, so might be good to get that sorted.
5. Some sort of VR gaming set up.
6. An older, parental figure to constantly tell me I’m doing a good job.
7. Some board games – something like wingspan, nice, relaxing and fairly non-competitive. 
8. A push bike for each band member – I think it’d be fun to do a lap around the block before we play, really get in the zone, y’know?
9. Winona Ryder – she’s one of the best Ryders and I reckon she’d be a great hang.
10. I put this to my band to see what they would want, and all they came up with was ‘a small bag of shredded cheese.’ I’m delighted by how easy they are to please so I feel like I really should Include their ‘small bag of shredded cheese.’

Kicking off in SA at Adelaide’s Hindley St Music Hall on 21 December, the Reef Rave will then paddle through NSW, WA and VIC, before finishing up in QLD at Toowoomba’s Regent Theatre on 9 March.

Honouring a quarter of a century since Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants first leapt onto screens back in 1999, the Reef Rave tour ultimately evolved from Pearce’s viral reworking of another children’s fave; and in news set to delight both the young and the young at heart, chances are high that attendees may very well be able to meet the sponge of the hour when Pearce takes to the stage across the summer. “Earlier this year I remixed a few theme songs like the Paw Patrol theme song. It went viral on social media, which opened the doors to working much more closely with Nickelodeon,” shares Pearce. “SpongeBob is turning 25 this year, so we thought it would be good to celebrate his birthday together! We’re planning on having him attend some shows, take photos with the little ones, maybe even sing happy birthday at each show. SpongeBob played a huge role in everyone’s childhood so we’re going to involve him as much as we can in each city. It’s really exciting!”

Hailing from the tiny village of Syðrugøta on the Faroe Islands and with ten studio albums under her belt, as well as numerous collaborations with artists including Àsgeir, John Grant, Einar Selvik (Wardruna) and Dan Heath (Lana Del Ray), Eivør is considered to be one of the most eclectic artists of the Nordics and a mesmerizing live vocalist.

Heilung is amplified history from early medieval northern Europe. Each live appearance of Heilung is a spectacular affair, where the lines blur between musical performance, ancient pagan rituals, past, and present. To witness a performance of the band is more of an spiritual experience that connects you as the audience to ancient wisdom, ritual and the Earth.

To describe a Heilung show is almost impossible, it has to be experience and felt, to reach out and feel the visceral experience that is connected to ancient rituals. The show can’t be categorized, defined or even explained – it must be witnessed, it is captivating.

Using poems, which either deal with historical events or are translations and interpretations of the original texts the band perform using throat singing, intertwined with melodies to harmonize and create a unique sound.  The show will take you to another place in your psyche that taps into something primal, connecting viewers to ancient times.
