Me First and the Gimme Gimmes (MFGG or the Gimmes) is a punk rock super group and cover band formed in San Francisco in 1995. The band includes Spike Slawson, CJ Ramone, Joey Cape, Pinch, and John Reis, with past members Dave Raun, Chris Shiflett, and Fat Mike. Known for their rapid-fire punk renditions of a wide range of songs, the Gimmes released their first single in 1995 and their best-selling album, “Have a Ball,” in 1997. Each album has a unique theme, covering genres from show tunes to country and western.
They’re inventive ways of re-working classic songs and making them tongue- in cheek- entertainment is both unique and a lot of fun. It’s a fast paced, in your face show that is no- stop laughs. Not taking themselves too seriously – or the audience too seriously for that matter, they put on a fantastic show.
Sydney’s masters of mayhem, Black Rheno, return with their first new music release since 2022, and it’s a goddamn banger! Well known for mixing up the heavy flavours and bringing more energy to the stage than a cyclone on steroids, Black Rheno’s new single “Snake Will Rattle” captures all that high-energy rage mixed with full-blown party vibes from start to finish. Simply put, this track slams. The video itself is pretty bonkers and a bit wild, so we caught up with guitarist Nano to chat about what inspired the track and hilarious video.
What inspired the high-energy vibe of your new single, “Snake Will Rattle”?
‘Snake Will Rattle’ came from this intense feeling, like we all had a fire building up inside just waiting to go off. We wanted a track that hits hard from the very first beat—something that feels like you’re charging full-tilt with zero brakes. It’s gritty, it’s heavy, and it’s the perfect way to let out a bit of aggression in the best possible way. We also wanted a song we’d have a blast playing live. I actually wrote part of it while we were over in the States, recording the next album, in Texas with Machine as the producer. That vibe and setting added an extra layer to it—think hot, intense days and fun nights with the boys.
How did you go about filming all the parts for the video, and how long did it take to complete?
Filming was absolute chaos, but we loved every minute. We wanted the visuals to be just as intense as the track, so it was a lot of crazy ideas, rolling with the punches, and keeping the energy high. We shot most of it in a single stretch over one big day—it was an adventure, that’s for sure. Adam from Main Street Studio was a legend. We had a few chats with him about creating something that would represent the raw, unfiltered vibe of Black Rheno, and he took it to another level. The final result is gritty, chaotic, and perfectly captures what we’re all about.
Can you tell us about the creative process behind the music video for “Snake Will Rattle”? What was the inspiration for its “bonkers” style?
The whole concept was to match the song’s chaotic vibe. The track itself is unpredictable, and we wanted the video to capture that same kind of explosive energy. It’s full-throttle, just like the song, and we had a blast pushing the boundaries with some pretty out-there ideas. Our approach was basically, ‘What would look insane and get people talking?’ It’s all about embracing the madness. The track is pedal-to-the-metal from start to finish, and we wanted to do it justice with a video that’s equally relentless. I’ve watched it a bunch of times, and every time I spot new details I hadn’t noticed—it’s packed with wild little moments.
How would you describe the mix of musical influences on “Snake Will Rattle”?
It’s like a cocktail of groove-driven madness. Each of us brings something different to the table, so you end up with this raw, heavy sound that has a killer groove to keep it moving. We’re definitely influenced by a bunch of different sounds, but we’re focused on keeping it our own thing—heavy, intense, unpredictable, and, most importantly, something we can’t wait to play live.
You’re known for bringing intense energy to the stage. How do you maintain that level of performance, especially with such physically demanding shows?
It’s like a switch flicks the second we hit the stage. You’re feeding off the crowd’s energy, and there’s no way to hold back—it’s all or nothing. Off stage, we take care of ourselves, but once we’re up there, it’s game on. It’s about connecting with the crowd and getting lost in the music. And honestly, that’s just who we are. We express our art through our music, but the live shows are a huge part of it too. They’re raw, they’re intense, and they’re mental. It’s not staged; it’s just how we play and express ourselves.
You must have some bonkers fans at your shows. What’s the wildest fan experience you’ve encountered?
Oh mate, we’ve seen it all! Rheno shows can go anywhere. One time, some bloke wandered up mid-set and just started telling jokes. Some people still bring pineapples to gigs—a nod to our clip for ‘No Time for Numb Nuts’. Then there was this time a guy tried drinking beer out of a Bible. But mostly, people come ready to let loose and party.
What can fans expect from the release shows at The Hamilton Station Hotel and The Duke Hotel?
Expect absolute mayhem. We’re pulling out all the stops for these shows. It’s going to be loud, raw, and in-your-face from start to finish. We’re bringing fresh energy, a bit of madness, and it’s going to be an absolute blast.
How was it opening for heavy metal icons Pantera earlier this year? What was that experience like?
Opening for Pantera was unreal. They’re legends, and getting to share the stage with them was one of those pinch-yourself moments. The crowd was massive and intense, which is exactly the kind of energy we thrive on. Seeing Phil on the side of the stage, rocking out to our tunes, was a total ‘is this real?’ moment. It was a huge honour and a massive milestone for us.
Since it’s been over a year since your last release, how have you grown as a band during this time?
We’ve come into our own a lot more over the past year. We’re more in sync as a band, and we’ve refined our sound while also becoming more confident in pushing things to new levels. We’ve done some serious soul-searching, trying to get to the core of what makes us unique. Right now, we’re in a great place as a band and as a live act, and we’re keen to keep pushing the boundaries.
How do you manage to balance the “mayhem” of your music with the fun, humorous side we see in your videos?
We’re all about the intense music, but we’re not serious 24/7! The humour in the videos shows that we know how to have a laugh and that we don’t take ourselves too seriously. Heavy music doesn’t always have to be tied up with grim expressions and seriousness. For us, the mix works because it’s who we are. It gives fans a bit of insight into the other side of Black Rheno.
What do you hope fans take away from both the single and the music video for “Snake Will Rattle”?
We want fans to feel the same rush we felt while making it. It’s a song and a video designed to hit hard and leave an impression. If it makes people feel like they’re part of the madness, then we’ve done our job.
Are there any surprises in store for fans attending your live shows this November?
Absolutely, but we’re not giving too much away! We’ve got a few tricks up our sleeves and maybe a few unexpected moments. Let’s just say, if you’re coming to the show, expect the unexpected. Who knows, maybe a fun cover might make its way in. But fans can definitely expect what they’re there for: pure mayhem and heavy riffs.
If you could have five bonkers things on your rider for backstage, what would they be and why?
Alright, here’s the list: 1. An endless supply of chicken nuggets. 2. A pig. 3. A nun. 4. A live mariachi band so we can have a dance with the nun. 5. A go-kart. Because why not?
What’s next on the horizon for the band?
We’re already working on more new music, so expect more chaos coming your way soon. We’re looking to take things even further and have a few surprises lined up that we’re stoked to share. This is just the beginning for us. We’ve got loads of music and ideas in the works; it’s just a matter of getting it out there when it makes sense.
Black Rheno have also booked two release parties to celebrate, playing at The Hamilton Station Hotel in Newcastle on November 2nd and The Duke Hotel in Sydney on November 23rd. Having already toured the east coast earlier this year, along with opening for heavy metal icons Pantera at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre, it seems like these guys are set to round the year out in style. No doubt these shows will be rowdy!

In celebration of the 25th anniversary since its release, Air are pleased to announce today a return down under for an exclusive Melbourne show as part of the 2024 ALWAYS LIVE 17-day celebration of live music across Victoria. Performing the iconic Moon Safarifrom start to finish, the Sidney Myer Music Bowl will be immersed in this dreamy sonic feast, under the stars, for one night only on December 4.

Fittingly for the cosmic and prismatically-crafted album that would launch Air into musical infamy, band members Nicolas Godin andJean-Benoît Dunckel met while at university studying astrophysics and architecture, going on to collide their musical talents to form Airin the mid-90s. Announcing themselves to the world bathed in sounds of chilled electronica and retro-futurism, their 1998 debut full-length Moon Safari became a bona fide pop culture sensation, selling millions of copies with inescapable hits like Sexy Boy, Kelly Watch the Stars and All I Need. Moon Safari’s downtempo sound catapulted the album into a defining soundtrack of the era, with touches of David Bowie, Beck and Madonna, and influencing artists such as Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker, Charlotte Gainsbourg and
filmmaker Sofia Coppola – with whom Air would go on to collaborate with, penning music for the 1993 film The Virgin Suicides.
Moon Safari topped the year-end lists of acclaimed publications and was named one of the greatest albums of the 90s by Rolling Stone; since reflecting on their early days, Dunckel recalled their modest ambitions, “We were a duo doing some electronic thing, dreaming of selling 10,000 copies and being recognised by other musicians as cool. Then suddenly, we met the world.” Now, 25 years later, the enduring appeal of Moon Safari is unmistakable. It remains a timeless mood, a sonic haven that bewitches you in a state of bliss throughout. As Dunckel describes it, the album is “a deep, universal spell, full of love and mystery,” while Godin simply calls it “perfect.”

Perth-born, Melbourne-based songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Alex Elbery takes an exuberant leap via his brand new single Ripcord. Releasing today with an accompanying whimsical music video, Ripcord is a warm and dynamic ode to falling in love, coated with billowing pop hues, driving alt rock undertones and an endearing Aussie tinge alongside heartfelt lyricism.
Starting production before the COVID pandemic, the journey to finally releasing Ripcord was lined with hurdles for Elbery, both internal and external. But against the odds and also sonically inspired by a myriad of iconic artists at the time, including Bruce Springsteen, The Clash, and Cyndi Lauper, Elbery’s buoyant capturing of impetuous love was also fortified by teaming up with prolific producer Jon Grace (Dear Seattle, Bakers Eddy, Kingswood, Dune Rats). “Ripcord was really a collaboration between Jon and I,” explains Elbery. “I wrote it, brought it to Jon and then we spent a fairly long time working to get it to be the best version it could be. Everything except the drums was played my either myself or Jon. Jon, who has since retired from music, is an absolute genius and I loved working with him.”
“Ripcord is a song about falling in love,” Elbery continues. “I wrote it as I was/after I had fallen in love with my partner. I wanted to write a love song that was honest and leaned into the messier, less fairytale aspects of falling in love. I liked the analogy of falling in love being like falling out of the sky. Your destination is inevitable but the velocity with which you’re travelling towards it determines whether you’ll land safely or crash and burn – hence – ‘pull on the ripcord.’ I’ve always been someone who rushes into things with reckless abandon, so this song was almost like a mantra I was writing to myself. “
Mastered by Tony “Jack The Bear” Mantz (Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Augie March, Silverchair), Ripcord is a lively and polished outing from Elbery, whose creative charms have previously been described as “Bruce Springsteen meets The Muppets” and “Outback Prince”. And while Ripcord is the first release of 2024 for Elbery, it also marks the debut single from a planned upcoming EP Unbelievably Good News; and the accompanying music video perfectly ties into the EP’s overarching themes, with the video production courtesy of Helen Turton, Jordan Laut and Jack Rintoul of Wendyhouse Films. “A big theme of Ripcord and the EP it belongs to is falling/flying,”Elbery shares, “so I wanted to create something that played with these ideas. There’s a scene in Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey where they’re falling to hell and they’re just falling for ages in this black void – I showed this scene to the folks at Wendyhouse and they took it and ran with it. They also came up with the idea of ‘ninja stage hands.’ It’s an idea that comes from Japanese theatre, it’s about acknowledging artifice, and I really loved that concept.”
Hailing from Perth, Alex Elbery has been immersed in creativity since he was five years old when he started playing the violin. Elbery went on to start his first band at the age of 13, putting on gigs at lunchtime while at school, and played in bands Mulder and Stereoflower before moving to Melbourne. A passionate supporter for social justice, particularly LGBTQIA+ issues and issues surrounding gender inequality, addiction, and mental health, Elbery also has a fondness for birds, particularly his two beloved pet cockatiels, and is a dedicated fan of wrestling (“I hate violence, but I sure do love some soap opera in spandex”, Elbery reveals). Currently also involved with other Melbourne bands Damaged Goods Club and Overthinker, the latest chapter for Elbery’s solo creative pursuits is sparked today by the release of Ripcord, heralding a new EP Unbelievably Good Things in the not-too-distant future, with a chance for fans to also catch the new tune live in action on Saturday 14 December at Melbourne’s Last Chance Rock & Roll Bar.
“Fans can expect a huge amount of energy, a huge amount of love, some silly outfits and a lot of bad dance moves,” shares Elbery of his upcoming live show. “I feel a mix of excitement and relief about the release of Ripcord. It’s been a long and weird road. We started production back before COVID and there’s been many roadblocks along the way; first lock downs, then my own personal struggles with addiction and mental health issues. I’m in a really good place now and just can’t wait to share this music with the world as it’s come to mean so much to me over the past few years that I’ve been working towards its release.”

About Logic1000
Logic1000 is the moniker of Sydney born, Berlin based producer and DJ Samantha Poulter. Her unique production process conjures concepts, genres, samples, hyper-accurate digital synths, and disembodied textures.
In 2023 Logic experienced a surge of creativity when she became a mother and felt compelled to create something powerful despite her limited time, which led to the release of Mother in March 2024, her debut album with Because Music. Describing the album as a “love letter to house music,” it blends genres like Deep House, UK Funky, and Garage and reflects her creative evolution and personal journey into parenthood, a milestone she never imagined achieving and one that she chronicles across her podcast ‘Therapy’ featuring guests including Jayda G, Anna Lunoe and Jamz Supernova. The album saw high praise from the likes of Mixmag (Best of 2024) DJ Mag (Album of The Month), Sydney Morning Herald, Guardian, Sunday Times, Billboard and Resident Advisor.
Poulter’s career began in her late 20s when she produced music inspired by her dissatisfaction with the current scene. Her breakthrough came with the track ‘DJ Logic Please Forgive Me,’ championed by Four Tet, which propelled her from making songs on SoundCloud to playing at large festivals and remixing the likes Dua Lipa, Don Toliver, Shygirl and Caribou.
Now confident in her roles as an artist and mother, Poulter reclaims her space in the music world. She has set herself on a path for delivering music that is open-hearted and irresistibly melodic, house music that speaks directly to what it is to be human.
About William Kiss
Melbourne’s producer and DJ William Kiss has a firm foothold on his signature house and techno sound, having signed his most successful tracks on Gudu, Rekids, UNCAGE, Club Bad, Bush and Carl Cox’s 23rd Century. Clocking up over 5 million streams across his catalogue and driving clubs and stages across Australia, Asia and Europe – with standout sets at institutions like Watergate, Pike’s Ibiza, and staple festivals such as Beyond The Valley and Sundancer.
With a decisive focus on percussive elements, undertones full of groove, rumbling baselines and main floor hooks, William creates music for the masses with classic electronic endurance. Stemming from a percussion-based background, the complexities and the sometimes-understated simplicities of techno hues have always struck a chord with him, fascinated by the raw power conveyed through basic elements. Yours and Owls Festival will return beachside in 2025, taking over Wollongong Foreshore, South Beach, to deliver you a weekend to remember on March 1st and 2nd.
Unfortunately, we can’t access UOW due to our date change; in true Gong spirit, when life gives us lemons, we go out and make some big-ass pitchers of LEMONADE! Being closer to the CBD means better access to all that juicy CBD stuff that makes life a little easier. Direct transport routes, better connectivity, those beachside negative ions, walking distance to the accommodation if you are coming in from out of town, and, most importantly, a hop, skip, and jump to the after-parties!
It’s a different venue, but the vibe’s the same! Multiple stages, the best international and local artists, chill-out spaces, bars, food, and arts showcase all the best elements Wollongong and its surrounds have to offer!
