News: Asha Jefferies’ debut EP ‘Hold Yourself Together’ Out Now

Following critically-acclaimed cuts ‘Everybody Talks’, ‘Chaos’ and last week’s release ‘If You Were My Hero’, Brisbane-based artist Asha Jefferies today releases her anticipated six-track debut EP Hold Yourself Together.

Jefferies explains the release of her first body of work: “This EP took so long because I decided to value honesty over everything else. The way in which I write is so subliminal and is difficult to seperate myself from. It is dripping in sub-conscious truths. Hearing that shit back through speakers as a teenager can be terrifying. A lot can get swept up and away when you lay tracks down and mark them for what they are in recordings. This two year climbing and building mountain was one of learning how to present myself and my work in its most authentic form, no matter how ugly, scary and real it is. Diving deep into vulnerable waters is murky territories, but it’s the only format in which music matters – to connect.”

Produced over the last 12 months with Miro Mackie (St. Vincent, Dirty Projectors, Bishop Briggs) and Simon Nelson, Hold Yourself Together embodies Asha almost entirely – a lot of teenage thoughts filtered through a spontaneous narrative that captures the moments of heartbreak, wonder, perturbation, crossed boundaries and smothering intimacy.

Presented by Mucho Bravado and Select Music, the Hold Yourself Together will see the Brisbane native play her own big headline hometown show at Black Bear Lodge, alongside more headline shows in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and at Western Australia’s Nannup Festival all over March. She also returns home to support Julia Jacklin.

‘Everybody Talks’ and ‘If You Were My Hero’ are receiving widespread love from fans, media and radio alike. The former is currently on rotation at triple j, while the latter was awarded a music video via NIDA/triple j Unearthed and last year’s ‘Chaos’ was shortlisted for the Vanda & Young Songwriting Competition.
