Get your picnic rugs out, as Gabriel Vargas hosts a very special family- friendly even in Croydon to benefit the ‘ Warriors of Light’ movement. The Brazilian- born musician is best known for his captivating acoustic music, having recently played shows with Jeff Martin Gabriel brings a very special show to Melbourne.
Every ticket purchased supports the incredible efforts of the ‘Warriors of Light’ Movement, who give openly and go above and beyond year-round to provide our disadvantaged community with regular hot meals in a dignified manner. Their initiatives provide so much love, support and nurturing to so many and what better time than Christmas to come together in support of a cause that is so dear to my heart.

In October 2014 I started a movement called Warriors of Light with the purpose of rebuilding a sense of community and also to encourage people to reach out to those in need. I began filling up 15 paper bags with homemade food, drinks and fruits and handing them out in Collingwood, every fortnight. Many of my friends and family, volunteered by cooking meals, donating items and helping me with the distribution of the bags. However, feeding people on the streets meant that they were exposed to rain, wind, cold and heat. I wanted to provide the disadvantaged community with a real dining experience! I wanted people to sit down and enjoy a wholesome meal with proper crockery, cutlery, and serviettes as we all did. In March 2016 my dream came true! I was given permission by the Brotherhood of St Laurence to use a community hall in Collingwood. Every second Sunday since then, tables are set, a choice of 2 main courses and dessert are offered, orders are taken and the food is served by our wonderful volunteers who make sure that each person feels special and enjoy their dining experience. To date, more than 3000 meals have been served and I am confident that the numbers will keep increasing! I believe that LOVE is the world’s panacea. We are beings of LOVE. We are Warriors of Light. Every second Sunday my beautiful, generous Momma is given access to a hall in Collingwood and provides a dignified sit-down meal for those less fortunate….sometimes serving up to 100 meals in an evening!
She calls this initiative “Warriors of Light” and does this out of her own time, with her own money, and with overflowing love in her heart.
With Christmas just around the corner, she aims to make it a little extra special – providing decorations and gifts, as well as the food for the children and families…but in order to do so she is seeking donations.
In attempt to help her, I have decided to hold a “Picnic Gig” with proceeds going to her cause. Whilst I would love to see you there and perform for you all, if you are interstate, overseas, or have another engagement but would still like to contribute to this worthy cause, I encourage you to purchase a ticket as it will go towards making this time of year special for those who need it most.
