From under the vulnerable covers Charlz emerges with her most powerfully devastating single yet – ‘The Sun’ produced by M-Phazes.   Underpinned by complimenting production, ‘The Sun’ fills the room with longing. Queenscliff Music Festival 2018 releases its
fourth & final program announcement

Queenscliff Music Festival 2018 is wrapping up its line up announcements with a bevy of high-profile comedians, Aussie artists and kids entertainers.

The QMF Comedy Show has secured four stellar comedians to bring the laughter this year, with Anne Edmonds, Tom Ballard, Corey White and Danielle Walker confirmed to come coast-side. 

Exciting local acts making their QMF debut will include electro-folk musician Forever Son,Triple J Unearthed darling Nancie Schipper, folk blues duo Jack The Fox, songwriting sisters The Sideshow Brides, alt-country troubadour Nathan Seeckts, Geelong rockersThe Kite Machine, and George Wilson’s musical alter-ego Pollyman.

Singer-songwriters Tom Richardson and Heath Robertson return to QMF, along with workshop Yoga Loves Music which immerses participants in live rhythms and soulful yoga practices.

Geelong based soul ensemble Sweethearts are back too, this time alongside legendary American drummer Bernard Purdie (the man the famous half-time drum backbeat the “Purdie Shuffle” is named after). Having played with the likes of James Brown, BB King, Aretha Franklin, Miles Davis, Cat Stevens, Hall & Oates, Bette Midler, Joe Cocker and more, QMF punters will be in for a treat when the two come together in concert.

Grant recipients MDRN Love and Fenn Wilson will also take to the stage as well as 2017 grant recipients The Refuge.

The previously announced Teeny Tiny Stevies will be spearheading the annual kids program, with help from friends The Mik Maks and kids comedian Nicholas Ridiculous.There are roaming clowns, giant seagulls, Big Rory & Ochie the Dog, and the Snuff Puppets. Children 13 years and under get in for free, and the kids carnival rides are free too!
Tickets for the festival (which runs from 23-25 November) are selling fast with over 90% sold.

A Hitch To The Sticks #2 kicks off  Friday 12th at Moorngag Hall, Moorngag where a stellar lineup of homegrown regional talent including Mac’s Peak, Scratch Match, Rob Ely + Ellen James will all be performing memorable sets in an iconic bush hall setting.

City and Colour, acclaimed singer, songwriter and performer Dallas Green, has launched a new label called Still Records, an imprint of Dine Alone Records. The first, official release is a very special live City and Colour album, Guide Me Back Home, to be released digitally on October 5 with physical product available November 23. The album was recorded during 2017’s sold-out “An Evening with City and Colour – Solo” Canadian tour where Green performed serene, stripped-down iterations of songs spanning his award-winning catalogue in an intimate theatre environment. The tour covered 25 cities from coast-to-coast. Green worked with Plus1 to collect $1 from each ticket sold during the 2017 tour to benefit MusiCounts. In the same spirit, $1 from the sale of each Guide Me Back Home album worldwide will be donated to MusiCounts. 

Guide Me Back Home is a beautifully recorded and meticulously curated 21-song album, produced by long-time friend Karl Bareham. Green says, “It’s more than just a live record to me. It is my love letter to Canada.”  Along with a digital release, a special 3 x LP vinyl set will be available, housed in a triple gatefold jacket and featuring the photography of Vanessa Heins and a handwritten note from Dallas about this special tour.  In 2016, as the support cycle for 2015’s #1 album If I Should Go Before Youwas winding down, a mentally and physically exhausted Green was watching the “madness” surrounding the U.S. presidential election unfold from his home in Nashville. That’s when the highways of his homeland started calling out to him. “I felt like I needed to go see more of the country I’m from – to explore it more deeply and play for people who’ve travelled to see me over the years a little closer to where they might be from, and maybe find some new people that might be willing to listen, too.”   About starting Still Records, says Green, “I see Still Records as a way to draw attention to projects that are important to me. Dine Alone was started to put out my first album, and it’s been very successful and grown into something really special since then. Still Records is an extension on those ideals and a place where I’m able to curate a collection of things that I think deserve to be heard and enjoyed.”

City and Colour, the moniker of singer-songwriter Dallas Green, is undeniably one of the biggest groundswell stories to emerge from Canada. Green’s latest and 5th studio album If I Should Go Before You debuted #1 on the Top 200 Soundscan, City and Colour’s third consecutive chart-topper in Canada. The LP also made serious waves internationally debuting at #16 on the U.S. Billboard 200 Chart and #5 in Australia where Green’s LP Little Hell went GOLD. Melbourne’s BLKLST have  announced  the imminent arrival of their new EP “Hard to Swallow” – and with it comes an abrasive and unnerving video for new single Hypocrite! The new EP will see its release into the world on Friday October 26 into iTunes & Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon and more. Pre-Orders open this coming Monday September 24 and the single will also be live for streaming everywhere that same day. Previously released earlier in 2018, single Donnie Narco features on this new EP, as does a sequel/part 2 to previous & popular single Need You. This new record draws influences from 90’s Nu Metal, Alternative Heavy Metal and Modern Metal. The Hard To Swallow EP was produced and engineered by Evan Lee at STL studios Sydney, with additional engineering by Sonny Truelove & was mixed and mastered by Evan Lee and Ash Daws at The Loud Noise Estate.  For those new to BLKLST – the band was Formed in 2015 and have made their mark quick off the bat. Establishing themselves on the heavy music scene with a crushing live show and a decimatingly heavy sound, the band quickly chalked up supports with bands such as Make Them Suffer, Deez Nuts, Alpha Wolf, Earth Caller and Justice for The Damned and interstate runs with Boris The Blade.  BLKLST was founded by drummer Drue Herring and guitarist James Gracie in 2015 with the later additions of vocalist Joshua Westwick and Bassist James McClurg in 2016, and finally live guitarist Evan Lee in 2017. Vocalist for the band, Joshua Westwick, states that “ The songs are very open to interpretation, each song has a very personal meaning to me but I try to not be too direct about it. I prefer for people to take what they can from the songs and engage with it in their own way, rather than be told exactly what they are about.  Hypocrite creates the feeling that you are being cheated or lied to. With the chorus hook of “stay tonight” it tries to give a feeling of a twisted dependence on being involved with a hypocrite. It even suggests we are all hypocrites and perception is everything.“ The band has enjoyed a bunch of support from both triple j heavy shows The Racket and Short Fast Loud previously, with 2015 single Revolution enjoying spins on Short Fast Loud and 2016 single Need You being spun on The Racket.  Pre-Orders for BLKLST’s new EP “Hard to Swallow” this coming Monday September 24 at all good online stores and the single “Hypocrite” will go live for streaming and purchase same day.

For Canberra hip hop artist KG, his craft isn’t just about making music that pops, it is much larger than this immediate effect. With his inspired rhymes and impassioned delivery, KG is speaking up for those in his community who cannot.

An emerging voice encouraging positivity and progression on a personal level, on a societal level and on a musical tip, KG looks directly at a diversifying Australian music scene – that still has some ways to go in terms of embracing powerful young people with things to say – with confidence and a brand new message in his new single, ‘CHANGE’.

Produced by Taka Perry, ‘Change’ is a fluid continuation of KG’s previous singles. Where his last single ‘Black Boy’ was a brutal and honest account of the oppression people of colour still face today, ‘Change’ broadens it’s outlook to encompass all races and backgrounds positively. “‘Change’ is about inspiring social change in our community for everyone. Also, by doing one thing to help someone disadvantaged is better than doing nothing at all. The song is designed for the everyday person struggling and how they can overcome life struggles by making a change in their lives.” KG

Working with Perry, KG has found himself in league with not only a like-minded individual, but also one of Australia’s most in demand producers. Having worked extensively throughout Australia and New Zealand, Perry has matched his passion with great results, with recent achievements coming in projects with artists including Ruel, Okenyo and Harry Carman.

First making an impact with his debut single ‘Mabo Martin Mandela’ last year, KG’s connection with his African heritage and culture has always remained a strong one when it’s come to threading these influences through his music. His father, Seretse Ratlhagane, a freedom fighter alongside Nelson Mandela, passed down this sense of justice and drive in pushing for social equality and awareness of the issues that face young people in particular.

Having spent time visiting Indigenous communities over the last few months learning more about the culture and also sharing his own background, music and dance to help inspire, KG and this new single ‘Change’ looks to charge momentum surrounding the marginalized and the sectors of our communities who need help and positivity the most.

This isn’t to say that KG is railing against making music that his fans can get down to. What fans have experienced at recent live shows in particular, is his impressive stage presence and chops as a live performer. The music KG makes is for everyone – if the saying is ‘music is a universal language’, then KG is your next dialect coach.
