The album captures a rock and roll show at its peak and is one of the best live releases by Alice Cooper, featuring his longtime band guitarists Nita Strauss, Tommy Henriksen and Ryan Roxie, bassist Chuck Garric and drummer Glen Sobel in front of an excited audience.
In July 2017, Alice Cooper released “Paranormal”, his first studio album in six years. When he heard “Low” for the first time he focused on the beat and kept listening to it over and over. The result was a black room, black drum set, and black clothing. The deepest realm of the ocean is known as the Hadal Zone—a term derived from Hades, the Greek god of the underworld. Fittingly, Melbourne death metal band Hadal Maw have assembled a discography that leaves listeners with the overall impression of trudging through the deepest and darkest oceanic trenches. Their forthcoming EP Charlatan maintains that atmospheric quality while offering an aggressive onslaught of anthems centred on themes of political puppet masters.

The remarkable South African guitarist Derek Gripper transcribes more music from West Africa’s kora masters for guitar to stunning effect. In his current album, Libraries on Fire, Gripper takes on further works from the great kora maestros; Toumani Diabaté, Ballaké Sissoko and Sekou Batourou Kouyate. Gripper conjures anew a centuries-old ancient African musical heritage, interpreting complex kora compositions (21 string harp) on solo guitar, a feat which classical guitar legend John Williams said he thought was “absolutely impossible until I heard Derek Gripper do it.”
We asked Derek a few questions ahead of the Sydney Guitar Festival and here is what he has to say.
Guitarist that inspired me to learn to play
Strangely it was Sting and Jack Bruce that got me playing bass guitar, then my guitar teacher Mike Hoole. Only later I realised other people played guitar but for a long time it was the thrill of finding written music and getting it to sound like guitar music.
How many guitars I own & my personal fave
I have only one guitar, a Herman Hauser III. It is made from a piece of 100 year old German spruce, the same piece as was used to make Segovia’s legendary instrument from the 30’s which is kind of a nice bit of history.
Most under rated guitarist in music & why?
I don’t follow guitarists much.

Everything!

After receiving rave reviews from his sold out SGF2017 performance, Canadian born but Aussie based Brian Campeau will reprise his ‘Get Blind With Brian!’ show. A unique performance featuring his complex playing and long, sorrowful vocals, all mixed into his odd sense of humour. Prepare to really listen to Brian. You’ll have no choice as the audience is to be blindfolded!
Brian Campeau is mostly known for his complex guitar playing accompanied by long sorrowful vocals. He is much less known for his charm and willingness to please his audience. That’s because some people don’t like his sense of humor, but that’s ok, right?
We asked Brian some questions ahead of his unique performance at the Sydney Guitar Festival.
What is your most memorable music moment?
Most recently, receiving a standing ovation for playing classical music (a bach piece and a vivaldi piece) during a progressive folk set. That was wonderful

Larry Lalonde comes to mind. Everyone always thinks of Les and Herb when it comes to Primus, but Larry’s role is hugely crucial.

Unfortunately, none, as i’ll be flying in and out Sydney only for my own gig……

Chips, crisps, what ever you call them, I love them. Here are my top 5 favourite chips .
1. Hickory BBQ by Boulder’s
I was only very recently introduced to this chip, soon after I moved to Melbourne. They taste a lot like the Lays brand of BBQ that were discontinued in Australia some time ago – my previous number one flavour. They taste nostalgic of primary school days. They’re not your cheapest chip so I save them for indulgent days of reward after a hefty week spent in my brain organising music life.
3.Light and tangy by Thins
I ate these tangy delights while working my way around logic, adding production ideas to the songs that became the EP, ‘Endless Chatter’. Sometimes I’d even treat myself and put them in a bowl so I didn’t have salty knuckles that could drop salt on to my guitar or laptop. While writing the break-up song, ‘For The Best’ for instance, these chips were there.
4.Chicken by Smiths
While these aren’t my favourite flavour of chip, I do have a very vivid image attached to them. One of my earliest memories of being very moved by modern music was during a dance routine at a school vacation day when I was maybe 7. The other kids and I were instructed to do a dance routine to Regurgitator’s ‘Polyester Girl’. In the break I bought a packet of Smiths chicken chips from the vending machine so now the song and chips are forever bonded. Whoever picked that song for the routine – thank you.
