Renowned for her immersive artistry and sparkling songwriting, today Melbourne/Naarm indie pop artist Tilly Fenton kickstarts a stunning new chapter, announcing the upcoming release of her sophomore EP, Serendipity, due out on November 27. Accompanying the announcement today, Tilly has also unveiled a new single and music video, the EP’s closing track, Rearview.
An emotionally-fuelled slice of driving indie pop, Rearview balances nostalgia and vulnerability with glimmers of hope, complete with Tilly’s magnetic vocals and confessional charm. “It honestly feels really cathartic and slightly nerve wracking to be releasing Rearview,” Tilly enthuses. “In comparison to some of my other songs, Rearview feels vulnerable, and while writing it I definitely bared my soul in the process. It feels a little scary putting those emotions out into the world so openly, especially because my releases this year have been more carefree and fun, and there was a small part of me that was hesitant to release it because the lyrics are so raw and dramatic. I really hope that people can relate to the song and maybe even use it as a way to let out all of those bittersweet, yearning and frustrating feelings that come with wanting to move on but still having so much left unsaid.”
Teaming up with producer Michael Belsar and co-writer Anna Leeworthy to bring Rearview to life, the track’s accompanying video also seamlessly reflects the lyrical content, with Tilly working with director Michelle Pitiris, aka She Is Aphrodite (Vance Joy, Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers) and produced by Echoes Agency, to inject raw vulnerability into the end result. “I actually found it quite challenging to come up with a concept at first, because I’m so used to portraying myself in a more fun and carefree light,” Tilly explains. “Once I started working with my collaborator Michelle Pitiris though, it all fell into place. She brought so many great ideas to the table, and I think she totally nailed the creative direction.”
“The concept is all about looking back on a relationship and feeling haunted by those memories. We used distorted mirrors, blurry shots and slightly surreal imagery to capture that feeling of being stuck between trying to move forward and still looking back. There’s also a much messier and more raw side of me throughout the visualiser, which felt really fitting for the emotion of the song and that feeling of trying to hold yourself together when everything feels a little bit all over the place”.
Taken from Tilly’s upcoming sophomore EP, Rearview sets the stage for the broader magic lying in wait throughout Serendipity, with the EP ultimately detailing the emotions and experiences that comes with navigating your early 20s. “There’s a lot about falling for people, losing those feelings, getting your heart broken, having fun with your girlfriends, feeling really confident in yourself one minute and then completely doubting yourself the next,” Tilly reveals, “and it’s really just trying to figure it all out as you go. Every song is kind of a different little snapshot of my life at the time, from the really fun and exciting moments to the ones where I had absolutely no idea what I was doing. I think overall, Serendipity is really just about taking all of those moments as they come and finding the fun and the good in them, even when things don’t turn out quite how you thought they would.”
With a lush simmer, Serendipity opens via I Just Wanna Kiss You; a sunny slice of charm, complete with jangly hooks, sleek modernity and an upbeat core. From here, Tilly balances rumination with buoyant melodies (Boys In Bars), crystalline indie-pop earworms with matters of the heart (Out Of Love), and moody acoustics with crisp basslines, along with moments of sweeping strings (Overcast). And flexing her ability to weave sunny melodies with handfuls of emotion on Better Than This, Serendipity’s penultimate track Lucky Girl showcases sparkling self-reflection, before the EP ends on the swelling splendour of Rearview.
With mixing courtesy of both Michael Belsar and Dan Grech across the tracks, and mastered by Dale Becker, Serendipity also sees Tilly team up with the likes of G Flip, Aidan Hogg, Konstantin Kersting, Kat Ostenberg, Miki Ratsula and Benji Ellingworth. “I am SO ready and absolutely cannot wait for everyone to hear Serendipity”, shares Tilly. “After such a positive response to my debut EP, I was inspired to keep making new music after seeing how many people it resonated with. I started writing for this EP as my first one was still being released, so it feels like I have been working on it for a while and I have been eager to share these songs for so long. This EP feels like such a special little snapshot of the music I’ve been making over the past year, and I’m really proud of how it’s all come together.”
One of the undisputed rising stars of the Australian indie pop scene, Tilly Fenton’s creative journey catapulted in 2023 when she campaigned on TikTok for a support slot for American singer-songwriter Lexi Jayde’s Australian tour. Fast-forward to Tilly landing the sole support slot for the run, Tilly went on to release her debut EP it’s a feeling that I know in 2025, cementing her reputation for threading emotive songwriting and deeply personal lyricism into her brand of indie pop, with a creative maturity well beyond her years.
Previously sharing stages with the likes of Lexi Jayde, Aleksiah, Seb Szabo, Tonight Alive and Mariae Cassandra, Tilly’s creations have also seen her land editorial playlist adds across Spotify and Apple Music, while the triple j First Play of her single I Just Wanna Kiss You earlier this year blew up with hundreds of texts sharing love for the luminous bop. Tilly’s most recent single, her highest streamed single to date, Lucky Girl alongside I Just Wanna Kiss You will, of course, join today’s new single, Rearview, on Tilly’s long-awaited sophomore EP; and the anticipation is just as real for Tilly as it is for fans alike. With Melbourne and Sydney shows also in the works for October, fans can expect more live news to come soon.
