News: BRIGITTE BARDINI UNVEILS DREAMY NEW SINGLE & VIDEO HEARTBREAKER LIFTED FROM DEBUT ALBUM STELLAR LIGHTS

Upcoming singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Brigitte Bardini has today shared her wistful new single Heartbreaker, a hypothetical journey into the terrifying possibility of losing a loved one. Heartbreaker is the third taste of the self-produced forthcoming debut album from Brigitte Bardini, Stellar Lights, set for release on August 30.

Heartbreaker is lush and sprawling, just like previous singles Aphrodite and Wild Ride, but is also quite an upbeat offering from Brigitte, showcasing a diversity and artistic maturity beyond her years. Taking inspiration from iconic artists such as PJ Harvey, Thom Yorke and sonic masters Air, Heartbreaker pulses and pulls, pairing soft, ever-present synths with sharp beatmaking and Brigitte’s idiosyncratic vocal. Reflecting on the inspiration behind the track, Brigitte says, “Heartbreaker is about having something very special in your life and exploring that hypothetical situation in your mind that you might lose that thing. A lyric like ‘I don’t want to lose my future to my past’ really captures that anxiety of lingering on past events and catastrophising about future events, and just trying to do my best to live in the moment.”

The video for Heartbreaker takes the sonic atmosphere that Brigitte has created and builds an entire visual world around it, one which glows in shades evocative of a dream-like world. Explaining the meaning of the creative choices behind the video, Brigitte reflects, “Wilk made this storyboard for the video within the world of the album which felt like the most natural approach to the clip…

The video takes on an approach that pulls from the way we remember our dreams, having that non-linear, otherworldly feeling that resembles reality with an obscured view.” Heartbreaker is just a taste of the depth and intricacy presented on Stellar Lights. Self-written and self-produced, excluding six tracks that were co-produced with Adam Calaitzis at Toyland Studios in Melbourne, Stellar Lights is a truly impressive debut from Brigitte, and demonstrates a musical understanding that is sure to impress. Gentle, inviting and engaging arrangements of synths, throbbing percussion and whimsical vocal melodies abound – at its heart, Stellar Lights is a beautiful mystery. Chords change like colours in the evening sky and voices whisper just beyond the reach of meaning.

Reflecting on the inspiration behind Stellar Lights, Brigitte explains, “Stellar Lights is mainly themed around embracing life. While being coming-of-age, it focuses on life’s fragilities, reflecting upon and learning from every moment and moving forward. I feel that I took this approach to my writing for this album when I experienced a very vivid apocalyptic dream that felt like it woke me up to how fragile life is and how advantageous it is to embrace all of its elements with as little judgement as possible. The words chosen for the title, ‘Stellar Lights’ are very much inspired by this apocalyptic dream, where shooting stars were colliding and meteors falling to earth as I was watching from a courtyard at night.”

With an entire debut album already on the way, it’s exciting to think what might be next for this young artist. Musing over the possibilities, Brigitte says, “Once Stellar Lights is released I feel like there will be vast space for exploration. I’ll have a chance to focus more solely on live performance and having shared experiences with an audience will be extremely special. It’ll also allow for exploration in how I approach my writing and whether the music changes in nature and/or soundscape depending on what will pique my interests at that time.”

Heartbreaker is out now. Stellar Lights is set for release on August 30 and will be available digitally, and on CD and vinyl

News: A TWENTY-TWO LETTER PHRASE SHARES NEW SINGLE AND VIDEO PREDISPOSITION + NEW EP JUST TELL ME WHAT I GOTTA DO OUT SEPTEMBER 30 – PRESAVE NOW + LIVESTREAM EP LAUNCH OCTOBER 1

A Twenty-Two Letter Phrase, the artistic project of renowned Australian musician Angus Gardiner, has today released the compelling, melancholy new single and video Predisposition, a heavily metaphorical, contemplative song about getting a second lease on life, feeling new, and having a complicated relationship with your old self. The track precedes the debut EP for A Twenty-Two Letter Phrase, Just Tell Me What I Gotta Do out September 30, and written through the midst of grieving a close friend. The EP release will be celebrated with an intimate live performance streamed to the A Twenty-Two Letter Phrase YouTube channel on October 1.

Predisposition evokes indie folk influences such as Laura Marling alongside the more symphonic art-rock of Rufus Wainwright, as Angus deftly weaves phrases amongst soft, pervasive acoustic guitar. Ultimately the song swells into a climactic crescendo, encompassing the wonder and confusion that permeate the lyrics of this song. Unresolved, leaving the audience pondering, considering, the song then slows to silence. It’s a stunning, thought-provoking journey, as Angus explains, “I wrote this song after reading the book Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor E Frankl. My psychologist recommended it and it was a transformative thing for me to read at a time when I was really struggling. Predisposition is a song that came out of quite deep existential feelings about what it means to exist, persist, and make the world how you might like it to be while accepting that it won’t ever be that way. Hopefully there are enough layers of metaphor that it means different things to different people.”

The video clip for Predisposition is a colourful, DIY affair, directed by Alex Bennison, and features Angus’ typewriter, punching out the lyrics to the track and overlayed over close, warm shots of Angus performing the song. The clip is saturated, vibrant, psychedelic, as Angus describes, “The clip feels very familiar to me since it was filmed in my apartment and neighbourhood, and features my trusty typewriter, which I use to keep a daily diary. I also did all the lyric writing on that typewriter. I love the mechanical feel and the physical and tactile routine of slotting the paper in, aligning the margins, and bashing out one letter at a time, with no backspace.”

The EP Just Tell Me What I Gotta Do is about as intimate and expressive as music can get. From the deep, cleansing breath of opening track Either Way to the piano-led, softly intense closer Working Silently, Just Tell Me What I Gotta Do is a Jeff Buckley-esque offering, a deeply sophisticated collection of masterful songwriting from a mature, thoughtful songwriter. Reflecting on the process of creating the EP, Angus says, “In 2018 my best friend and bandmate Luke Liang passed away and I was shattered by grief and trauma. Making this EP has mapped and reflected some of my paths as I have begun to understand and process that event. I think I am still some way from what might be described as ‘healing’ and I don’t really like using that word but it is a gradual process and I do make progress every day. Some of the songs, like Again, Either Way are quite raw and reactive and others are more metaphorical… I tried to distill things from a few different perspectives, but Just Tell Me What I Gotta Do is about living your life with fierce intention whilst accepting that there are things about the world that you simply cannot change.”

Angus Gardiner, the accomplished musician behind A Twenty-Two Letter Phrase, is a well-known session player for massive Australian acts Montaigne, Jack River, Jarryd James, E^ST, Dean Lewis and more, as well as a founding member of the hugely popular band Papa vs Pretty.

Gardiner set his intentions for the project early, insighting “I wanted to stretch myself and for the work to be truly reflective of me and uncollaborative/individualistic after years of collaborating, if that meant there were some flaws, then so be it.” And he has pulled it off, playing every instrument on the release himself (except for drums), mixing and mastering it himself and even creating the cover artwork. Drawing on years of practice, of mastering his craft, this EP is a true demonstration of both considered, perceptive songwriting but also a keen, skilled sense of musicianship. These songs are something incredibly special – heartwrenching, devastating, yet calm, open and empathetic. This EP is a comforting must-listen for anyone who has ever felt deep grief.

Angus Frederick Gardiner is A Twenty-Two Letter Phrase. Predisposition is out today, the EP Just Tell Me What I Gotta Do is out September 30.

News: BOO SEEKA ANNOUNCES NEW SINGLE AND VIDEO TRIPWIRE + NATIONAL TOUR

Boo Seeka has unveiled a new acoustic-driven single, Tripwire. In a complete change of pace for the electro-pop star, the deeply heartfelt, expressive song that mourns the loss of normalcy. Accompanying the release is a video clip, aligned in essence and feel. The visuals are soft, raw, and natural, filmed on a farm in Margaret River, WA and they capture a perfect pairing to the haunting loneliness and beauty of the track. To celebrate the release of Tripwire, Boo Seeka will be hitting the road over September and October, kicking off proceedings at Beach Hotel at Byron Bay on September 24, then moving through Brisbane, Melbourne, Hobart, Launceston, Sydney, Adelaide, and wrapping up at Magnet House in Perth on October 16.

Tripwire is a huge revelation from a musician who has garnered millions of streams from the untouchable electronic pop chops, to release an acoustic guitar/orchestral driven track. But that’s just who Boo Seeka is – at the core, a very special songwriter. Whether that song is peppered with synths and drum machines or whether it’s simply Boo’s phenomenal voice and an acoustic guitar. Tripwire is straight from the heart. Strings fly amongst steady acoustics and Boo’s emotive vocal, and there’s just no denying the talent and passion in this recording. Speaking on the inspiration behind the track, and the reason why he decided to strip it all back to basics, Boo explains, “The songwriting for Tripwire is really direct, I’m wearing my heart on my sleeve with this one… I realised I was writing about myself, and the stuff I was going through, which was hitting me pretty hard if I’m being honest. Writing on an acoustic guitar has always been a part of my process and usually, it would just be used to figure out the chords and structure of the song, and then it would be built into an electronic track. With Tripwire, we used the same template, but nothing we built sonically got close to the emotion, and the rawness of the acoustic version. It’s super different to the typical Boo Seeka sound, but the diversity of the upcoming album is something I’m very proud of, and releasing it as the first single is the perfect way to kick it off”.

The video for Tripwire is simple, stark, and contemplative. The lone figure, dressed all in white, walks across a vast, empty field – as the song swells, the woman begins to run, then sprint. As the music ends, she stands still, alone, in the silence. Speaking on the creation of the clip, Boo says, “Originally I was going to fly to WA to shoot this clip but Covid once again got in the way. My manager Cohen and his mate, Lachlan Ross (of production company Halves and Quarters) set out with Meg Charnaud (actor) on a last-minute adventure to shoot the clip on a farm close to Margaret River, Western Australia. Lachy is the mastermind behind the whole thing, and I love the beauty of it. It’s a simple yet effective clip capturing the emotion of trying to run away from all things negative. Something myself and everyone around me is going through right now.”

Boo Seeka is an established mainstay within the live music scene across Australia, bringing captivating tunes and alluring energy to audiences all over the country. If you’re in the mood for a party – which, let’s be honest, who isn’t, after the 18 months we’ve all had – get yourself a ticket to a Boo Seeka show for a guaranteed good time, as Boo endorses, “When people come to a Boo Seeka live show, I really want to put on a night where people can leave their troubles at home, smile, and just have a whole heap of fun.” Boo’s got the music, the vibes, and the red wine – just bring yourself and enjoy the ride.

FLESH AND BLOOD SEPTEMBER 2021 TOUR CANCELLED
2022 TOURING PLANS
EXCLUSIVE FLESH AND BLOOD TOUR MERCHANDISE OFFER

  • The Flesh And Blood September tour cancelled
  • Ticket holders will be contacted by ticketing agency and need take no action
  • Exclusive Flesh And Blood Tour merchandise offer
  • The Flesh And Blood #1 ARIA album, out now through Bloodlines
Frontier Touring regretfully advises that due to the uncertainty of border restrictions around the current COVID outbreaks across Australia, Jimmy Barnes’ September Flesh And Blood Tour is cancelled and unable to be rescheduled.

Excited at the thought of touring his 18th career #1 ARIA Album Flesh And Blood, this cancellation of nine shows heartbreakingly adds to the growing list of I Lost My Gig Australia events due to the ongoing pandemic and national restrictions.

Jimmy says, “My band, my crew and music fans around the country are all doing it really tough right now so these latest round of cancelled gigs will be yet another kick in the guts for them at a really bad time. Hopefully if we all do the right things and get vaccinated as soon as possible then we’ll be enjoying gigs together before too much longer.”
Jimmy also noted that recently announced State Government schemes in WA, NSW and VIC would help compensate the tour promoter and tour workers for some of their losses on this tour.
“It’s a real pity that the QLD and SA governments haven’t bothered to match these other States by introducing similar schemes. I don’t know what they’re waiting for. The music community is really on its knees right now so I think QLD and SA should seriously consider stepping up like the other states have already done.”
Ticketholders need take no action and will be contacted directly from the official original ticketing agency.  Tickets purchased by credit or debit card will be automatically refunded in full to the card originally used for purchase.  Patrons should allow approximately 20 working days for the refund to appear in their account.

In addition to his already announced Red Hot Summer dates, Jimmy is working on extensive touring plans for 2022 when Australia should be allowing a return to live music. Stay tuned for future tour and date announcements.

With the Flesh And Blood Tour originally scheduled to kick off next month, official tour merchandise was printed and ready to be shipped to shows!  Thanks to Love Police ATM, an exclusive Frontier Touring discount offer is available on select Jimmy Barnes Flesh And Blood Tour merchandise including tshirts, tea towel, hoodie and (while stocks last) a free stubby holder with every order.  Enter the code FRONTIER for the exclusive offer HERE.  All profits from the sale of these items will go directly to Jimmy’s band and crew.

News: Asking Alexandria To Release New Album, See What’s On The Inside, On Oct 1. First Single, Alone Again, Out Now

ASKING ALEXANDRIA
To Release New Album See What’s On The Inside On Oct 1
First Single Alone Again Out Now

Acclaimed British rock group Asking Alexandria just announced the October 1 release of their upcoming full-length studio album See What’s On The Inside.

The announcement comes fresh off the news of their new global deal with Better Noise Music earlier this year, when they were signed by label president Dan Waite out of the company’s London office.

The band is celebrating the album announcement with the release of first single “Alone Again” today. A raw, emotional, introspective rock anthem, the single was co-written by all five members and offers a fitting first sampling of the full-length LP. Tapping into a renewed sense of creative energy, the band is more aligned than ever and rediscovered their love for songwriting and making music together during the recording sessions for this album.

“Alone Again” and an extended “Intro” for the song are now available to stream and download across platforms now

Of the single, the new album and the new chapter with Better Noise, founding member and lead guitarist Ben Bruce said, “‘Alone Again’ and the rest of this album is the result of us reconnecting and falling back in love with why we started this band in the first place. No frills or cheap tricks, just the five of us playing our instruments as hard and as loud as we can! At some point in our lives, we all feel lost and confused as to who we are and who we want to be, and I think this song will really unite all of us in that sense. We are so excited to share, not only this new song with you all, but our new album. We went back to our roots as musicians and really wanted to reignite that passion and love for rock and metal music. Metallica, Led Zeppelin, Queen, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Aerosmith, AC/DC….all the greats that we fell in love with as kids have greatly influenced this new album and we couldn’t be more excited!

Rhode Island metalheads KINGSMEN are paying homage today to the 30th anniversary of METALLICA’s seminal self-titled masterpiece the Black Album with a faithful rendition of the classic song ‘Sad But True.’

Watch the Video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSCIIH2h8H8

Commenting on the track, the band states:
“Metallica’s black album was monumental to our growth as musicians. Their presence as a band is unmatched, uplifting and inspiring. As an aggressive band, we decided it was best to honour them by recording a true to the roots cover of their heaviest track, “Sad But True”. Everything from the equipment to the recording techniques are ‘to a T’ the same as Metallica did in 1991. We wanted to show patronage to them by covering the song in a similar way to how they recorded it… but with an extra aggressive edge.”
