New Album Endless Arcade To Be Released April 30 via PeMa.

Teenage Fanclub have shared a final preview of their highly-anticipated album with a new song and video for “In Our Dreams”.

Written by the band’s Raymond McGinley, it’s the fifth single off Endless Arcade, out April 30. The song evokes an exploratory voyage inward and reflects the melancholic yet uplifting themes present throughout the rest of the record.
The video was shot at Motherwell Concert Hall by long-time collaborator Donald Milne.

McGinley had this to say about the new song: “To rephrase an aphorism most famously used by John Lennon, existence is what happens while the human race is busy making other plans. This song is kinda about that, but like all our songs, we write them intuitively and only think about what to say about them afterwards.”

Even if we weren’t living through extraordinarily troubling times, there is nothing quite like a Teenage Fanclub album to assuage the mind, body and soul, and to reaffirm that all is not lost in this world.

In the 1990s, the band crafted a magnetically heavy yet harmony-rich sound on classic albums such as “Bandwagonesque” and “Grand Prix”. This century, albums such as “Shadows” and “Here” have documented a more relaxed, less ‘teenage’ Fanclub, reflecting the band’s stage in life and state of mind, which Endless Arcade slots perfectly alongside. The album walks a beautifully poised line between melancholic and uplifting, infused with simple truths. The importance of home, community and hope is entwined with more bittersweet, sometimes darker thoughts – insecurity, anxiety, loss.

“I think of an endless arcade as a city that you can wander through, with a sense of mystery, an imaginary one that goes on forever…” says Raymond McGinley, one half of the band’s songwriters for this album alongside Norman Blake. “When it came to choosing an album title, it seemed to have something for this collection of songs.”

Experimental Sydney-based duo Plastic Face have today announced their dark, mysterious new single BACK2TOKYO, an exploration of how it feels to fall backwards into old habits, being an inner critic and finally getting yourself back onto the path to ecstasy, out today, April 1. The enigmatic duo have also released a spooky and intriguing Lynchian video to accompany the track, written and directed by Sean Donovan.

Like their previous single HiiViSiON, BACK2TOKYO makes an immediate impact – but this time the atmosphere is provocative, moody; the kind of track you might hear at 4AM on the dancefloor of an exclusive European nightclub. Entirely self-written, produced and mixed by the duo, the topline for BACK2TOKYO is undeniably hooky, and that’s the reliable thing about Plastic Face – they’re always pushing the boundaries of what pop/dance music can be, while also ensuring that their melodies are catchy and their songs are compelling you to press play again. Speaking on the inspiration behind the track, Pete Stals says, “Our second single BACK2TOKYO, like all of our tracks, is 100% totally open to the listener’s interpretation. For us, this song was inspired by making the same mistakes over and over. We’ve used Tokyo as a metaphorical state of mind in which it can be interpreted as going back to old relationships you know are toxic, putting up with some horrendous job, or trying to manage addictions.”

BACK2TOKYO is accompanied by a dramatic and captivating video – dive deep into the murky underground where cool tones prevail as the camera meanders through an eerie house, and follows a shadowy figure performing what could be described as witchcraft…but as Plastic Face emphasise, it’s all up to the viewer’s interpretation. Reflecting on the conception of the video, Will Coleman enthuses, “Our magnificant friend Sean Clancy Donovan wrote, directed and produced this unique music video. This clip could be riddled with symbolic metaphors, or it could simply be a beautiful and seductive witch performing some ritualistic torture of unsuspecting masked individuals. The concept is yours to decide. Either way it’s a visual feast for your hungry eyeballs and we absolutely love it.”

Plastic Face are a breath of fresh air in a world where a lot of things are starting to look and feel the same. With years of experience in the music industry under their belts, and hundreds of songs written between them, these are two individuals who have come together to make some truly innovative music and art while they’re both right at the top of their game. ‘NEVER TEAR US APART’ BY INXS
+ ANNOUNCE MELBOURNE SHOW AT THE FORUM

Warrandyte four-piece The Teskey Brothers have treated fans to an extremely powerful cover of ‘Never Tear Us Apart’ by INXS! The band first performed their rendition of the classic as part of their 2020 ARIA Awards performance and again for ABC TV’s 2020 New Years Eve telecast; due to an overwhelming response online, the outfit entered the studio to re-imagine the track in full, releasing their breathtaking recorded version for the first time today on all DSPs.

To celebrate the release, the band has just announced a special headline show at The Forum Theatre in Melbourne on Wednesday April 21st. Tickets will go onsale next Tuesday 13th April at 9am.

This show follows the band’s run of dates across the country as part of the Summersalt Festival alongside fellow local heavyweights Boy & Bear, The Cat Empire, John Butler, Montaigne & more.

The Teskey Brothers rounded out 2020 with a special hour-long performance alongside Orchestra Victoria at Hamer Hall, whereby the band collaborated with the 45-piece orchestra to bring their catalogue to life, reimagined by arranger Jamie Messenger and led by conductor Nicholas Buc. The event followed an ARIA Award win for Best Blues & Roots Album for their #1 ARIA chart-topping LP, Live At The Forum. Amidst a 16-date sold out national Australian tour in 2019, the band undertook the arduous task of recording to analogue tape during their four-night stand at the beloved Melbourne venue. The album features songs from the band’s two revered albums, Run Home Slow (2019, #2 ARIA Chart) and Half Mile Harvest (2017), as well as a special cover of John Lennon’s ‘Jealous Guy’. Live At The Forum is the first live album to go number 1 by an Australian band since 1992’s AC/DC Live.

MATT GUDINSKI ASSUMES ROLE OF
CEO MUSHROOM GROUP

Mushroom Group  has announced that Matt Gudinski will assume the role of CEO of the Mushroom Group, effective immediately.

Matt moves into the role following the sudden passing of his father, Michael Gudinski, on March 2 this year.

Matt most recently held the role of Executive Director, Mushroom Group from 2013. In the eight years following, Matt and Michael worked side by side at the helm of Australia’s most powerful independent entertainment group, overseeing over 250 employees and two dozen companies.

Formed in 1972, the Mushroom Group encompasses touring and events, record labels and artist services, publishing, merchandising, booking agencies, film and television production, talent management, venues, creative services and a brand agency.

In 2013 Matt spearheaded a public relaunch of the Group where he was named as Michael’s successor.

Matt Gudinski said “This isn’t a role that I expected to assume yet, but I am determined to honour the great legacy my father left. Mushroom Group is in its strongest position ever and as we fast approach our 50th year I know that our incredibly talented Mushroom family will help me deliver the vision Dad and I had for the next 50 years of our business.”

While Matt was literally born into the business, he officially joined Mushroom Group in 2003 at age 17. Since then, he has been hands on with all aspects of the Group, helping grow its label and touring divisions while overseeing change in music publishing and artist management amongst many other things, driving Mushroom’s evolution, diversification and vision to be a global leader.

Watched by over 1.419 million viewers on Anzac Day 2020, Music From The Home Front was the most unique concert ever screened on Australian television, capturing an important moment in our nation’s history, born out of Australia and New Zealand’s first lockdown response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Conceptualised by the Mushroom Group’s Michael Gudinski and staged in a mere nine days, Music From The Home Front 2020 saw an unprecedented line-up of Australia and New Zealand’s most iconic musicians united together to remind us that we were not alone – even when we were socially distancing.

It was Michael’s incredible passion and vision which created Music From The Home Front, a celebration to unite people through the power of music.

Michael was well into planning this year’s concert when he tragically passed away on March 2. With his indelible and extraordinary spirit behind us, the Mushroom Group are proud to announce the 2021 event will present performances from many of the finest names in music as we commemorate and pay tribute to our nations’ rich ANZAC history.

As with last year, Music From The Home Front 2021 will feature household names, special moments and surprise collaborations showcasing the breadth and diversity of talent in our local music community. The 2021 event is presented in partnership with the Victorian Government as part of its commitment to showcase Victoria as the state of music.

Says Mushroom Group’s CEO Matt Gudinski: “Dad had many great passions throughout his career, but his love of the local music industry never shone brighter than it did during the last year as we suffered through the impact of COVID-19. It’s incredibly fitting that Music From The Home Front, a project he was immensely proud of in 2020, was one of the events he was working on right up until his last day. That we can bring to life a broadcast concert version from his hometown of Melbourne, supporting the industry he loved, in a city he long promoted as the leading music capital of Australia, resonates deeply with all of us at Mushroom.”

Says Acting Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events, Mary-Anne Thomas: “We are proud to support Music From The Home Front in 2021 and it’s fantastic we can welcome crowds to this year’s event and show our support for the live music industry.”

While last year’s show was entirely filmed during lockdown, for the first time in 2021 Music From The Home Front will go ‘live’ on stage this year, with artist performances broadcast live from Melbourne’s iconic Sidney Myer Music Bowl. These tracks will be mixed with additional streamed performances shot at various iconic locations. Music lovers can either experience Music From The Home Front in person at the ticketed Sidney Myer Music Bowl concert in Melbourne, or watch the broadcast from anywhere in Australia on Channel 9 (TV) and 9Now, or stream it globally via YouTube.
