Hitting the stage for only the second time this year, the Bamboos bought their remarkable energy and stage presence to The Corner Hotel and a crowd that was long overdue for a good time.

Fronted by enigmatic front-woman Kylie Auldist the band bought the funk to the dancefloor for an incredible 90 min set that kept going.

With a set list full of hits, including ‘ You ain’t no good’, Golden Ticket’ and ‘ Step in Up’ the ensemble perform in perfect sync with each other, the grooves effortlessly raising the energy in the room to fever pitch.

Like a cool drink of water in the desert, The Bamboos are just the remedy a parched Melbourne music scene needed.

My Dream Rider: Casey Barnes

With a bunch of chart-topping singles (and albums) already under his belt, Casey Barnes is headed straight to the top again with Come Turn Me On. Evocative of country/pop crossover masters Dan + Shay and Keith Urban, Come Turn Me On is a firecracker of a single, comfortably at home on both country and pop radio and playlists.

1.     3 walls in every green room personally punched by Russel Crowe. In saying that, ‘30 Odd Foot of Grunts’ would make a great support act, plus Russ can double as security. Perfect combo.

2.     The drummer from Def leopard’s other arm.

3.     We all love our footy in the band so we’re going to need both red and yellow Sherrins. Obviously red for daylight kicks of the footy backstage, but the option of yellow for better visibility at night.

4.     To go alongside the request of footys on tour, ideally we’re going to need an MCG sized footy field within walking distance of all gigs, preferably with lights. We’d like water boys but instead of water, they’ll have a constant supply of beers or whiskey to keep us hydrated pre-show. If we feel the experience would be more enjoyable to have the likes of Jason Dunstall, Gary Abblett (snr) or Plugger there for match day simulation… that can be organised. Trainers to be able to provide any medical assistance as our bass player Ben often tends to latch on to 80m torpes and his hammies are a little dodgy so we don’t want to take any risks there. Also, the option of pre-gig massages and rub downs (and not that sort of rub down… get your bloody minds out of the gutter)

5.     Drinks backstage: All of them – at all times.

6.     Heaven forbid, but if we ever have unwanted guests in the green room we need catering staff to be onto it immediately and provide the worst array of stale week-old mouldy sandwiches, lukewarm/flat beer and Celine Dion’s greatest hits on repeat as BGM to encourage them to leave as soon as possible…. At all other times we need freshly prepared KFC on demand, In-N-Out Burgers and a steak chef to whip up meals as required.

7.     A turntable and speakers with a vinyl copy of Wheeler Walkers debut album. Also, a VHS copy of the music video to Sabrina’s hit single ‘Boys Boys Boys’…. Don’t ask.

8.     Adult diapers and a visit from Nudge from Hey Dad.

9.     Access backstage to every streaming service ever invented. Also, if we’re watching a movie backstage pre-gig and say it’s a Samuel L Jackson film… and for whatever reason we feel it’d be great to have him in the crowd at our next show for moral support, then he’s there… no excuses. If we’re going thru an 80’s Monkey Magic phase and we’d like Masaaki Sakai there in full Monkey Magic costume… then that’s what we get. No request is too hard… hang on, is the guy from Monkey magic still alive? Doesn’t matter

10.   Purely for entertainment purposes we want the guy that features in this clip here (The grumpy soundman) to be our FOH engineer for all shows… what a dead set legend:

My Dream Rider: Timothy Wolf

Introspective soulful blues, Timothy Wolf is the new kid on the block rising up through Australia’s music landscape. Already selling out multiple shows this year and adding more Wolf introduces us to his boisterous and chaotic band ‘The Howlers’. We’re introduced to the Melbourne local through his debut single ‘In your arms again’ but with an album recorded and on the way, there’s a lot in store for Timothy Wolf and The Howlers.

News: Polaris Announce The Vagabond Tour & Release An Epic Music Video For ‘Vagabond’

Sydney metalcore outfit Polaris are stoked to announce the Vagabond Tour which will see the band hit regional spots on the east coast throughout June with special guests, Deadlights.“It’s turned out to be kind of ironic that the lyrics of “Vagabond” mention this idea that “nowhere feels like home”, which was originally a reference to constantly being on the move when we were touring… But after the last year of being unable to tour and travel, there were a lot of times when our actual homes didn’t really feel like home either, because where we really wanted to be was out travelling the world and playing shows! We are so psyched to finally shake the rust off and get back on the road after what will have been 16 months away from doing what we love most. We’ll be hitting some of those little pockets of the East Coast that we don’t get out to as often, as well as some spots that we’ve never been out to before.” says drummer Daniel Furnari.

To coincide with the tour announcement, Polaris reveal an epic music video for Vagabond, taken from their ARIA Nominated and #3 ARIA Album Chart debut record, The Death Of Me.

Drawing visual inspiration from classic movies such as Mad Max, Star Wars, Dune and Priscilla Queen of the Desert, and the aesthetics of festivals like Burning Man and Rainbow Serpent, the Vagabond music video was filmed entirely outdoors and shot in natural locations. Filming outdoors had it’s challenges such as facing high winds, intense heat, military planes flying overhead and a whole lot of factors which made filming a very interesting experience.

“This video has been a long time in the making, and is probably the most ambitious visual project we’ve ever worked on. When we first considered doing a video for ‘Vagabond’ we knew that the vibrant sunny attitude of the song’s chorus was something we wanted to reflect in the visuals – something a lot brighter than what we’d normally go for. The name of the song and the sound of the intro guitar motif had always inspired desert imagery for us so we began the concept focusing more on the visual ideas we wanted to accomplish, with the narrative then forming naturally around those images and elements of the song’s lyrics.” says vocalist/bassist, Jake Steinhauser.

He adds, “With the initial idea for the video having been conceived in early 2020 there was also a desire to show off the beautiful Australian landscape we’re lucky enough to call our backyard – a landscape that had recently been ravaged by a very long and intense bushfire season.
Over the months that followed, a series of lockdowns, interstate travel restrictions, and wild weather conditions all created complications for us. But between us and our friends Kez Ellis-Jones and Chris Elder, who worked on the video with us, we adapted and kept pushing ahead because we were all determined to see it brought to life. We had a lot of fun getting heavily into the concept with the outfits we put together to create our own little post-apocalyptic cinematic world.”

While Daniel Furnari includes, “Getting to film that big “desert-rave” scene that closes out the video was so special. Something that we felt had been missing from ours and so many peoples’ lives over the last year was the ability to get together with a large group of people and just celebrate life through music and dancing and self-expression. That search for a sense of community and togetherness not only became the driving force for the characters in the video’s narrative, but also allowed us to do something that temporarily filled that void in real life for a night! And the best thing was that we could see that all the friends who jumped on board to be extras had been really craving that too, and I think that’s why so many of them were willing to get around the idea, put together wild costumes for themselves and and trek into the dunes at night – they had missed it as much as we had, and there was a really exciting energy in the air because of that.

So much planning and crazy logistics went into that scene and there were so many points where we thought we wouldn’t be able to pull it off. When night fell and we were about to start shooting, we finally turned around and saw the location lit up and filled with all these people in these amazing colourful outfits and we couldn’t believe our eyes!”

The Vagabond Tour kicks off on June 10 and is supported by Brisbane post-hardcore band, Deadlights.

Deadlights have gone on to become a household name within the Australian alternative scene supporting acts such as Parkway Drive, Thy Art Is Murder, Every Time I Die, and so many more; dropping ever more creative singles along the way with Bathed In Venom and Sugarcoated Psychosis.

News: Black Rheno release new single “Battle Ready” via Dead Set Records and tour the East Coast over May & June

Australian stoner groove & grind masters Black Rheno return with a brand new track entitled “Battle Ready” accompanied by another stellar video clip and east coast tour to go with it. This is their first release on the new Australian heavy label, Dead Set Records. It’s also Black Rhenos first release since unleashing their debut album ‘Noise Smasher’ (which you can stream from this link here) upon the world in late 2019. “Noise Smasher” itself is a full-on assault of heavy groove-laden stoner riffs blended in with intense moments of grindcore laced with big fat sludge ridden tones. It’s an absolute face melter of an album and when listening to Black Rheno it’s easy to forget this band consists of only one drummer, one guitarist and one vocalist. The fact a single guitarist is producing this monster chaos wall of guitars is quite astonishing; you’d be forgiven for thinking they were a five-piece.

 

Battle Ready –

 

This new release, “Battle Ready” is a great example of a forever evolving band. It steps further into the stoner groove direction yet still encapsulates downright dirty sludge tones, and for a band with no bass guitar, these guys carry low end for days. It’s a fat, aggressive yet groovy punch to the face with a breakdown section that’ll make you want to jump straight into the pit and start one hell of a wall of party… The guys have also developed quite a reputation for releasing killer video clips, and “Battle Ready” continues the trend of some very entertaining viewing. Live, Black Rheno brings a ton of raw energy to the stage, and they’re well known for their full-blown, out of control live shows. With just over a year between drinks, no doubt these guys are going to be ready to explode when they hit the road playing shows along the east coast this May/ June as the boys’ team up with a slew of killer bands along the way.

News: Garbage Announce New Album ‘No Gods No Masters’ Out June 11

Garbage will share their seventh studio album No Gods No Masters. The record’s first single, ‘The Men Who Rule The World’, and its accompanying mixed media video—created by Chilean film director, animator and painter Javi.MiAmor—are out today, listen and watch here.

“This is our seventh record, the significant numerology of which affected the DNA of its content: the seven virtues, the seven sorrows, and the seven deadly sins,” says the band’s iconic frontwoman Shirley Manson of the album and its twists and turns from capitalism and lust to loss and grief. “It was our way of trying to make sense of how f**king nuts the world is and the astounding chaos we find ourselves in. It’s the record we felt that we had to make at this time.”

‘The Men Who Rule the World’, the opening track of No Gods No Masters, is a protest song – a searing indictment and call to arms critiquing of the rise of capitalist short-sightedness, racism, sexism and misogyny across the world. It’s a clear statement of intent from a band who still believe in the power of dissent, setting the tone for the rest of the record.

Produced by Garbage and long-time collaborator Billy Bush, the seeds for No Gods No Masters were planted in summer 2018 in the desert in Palm Springs. The quartet – Manson and bandmates Duke Erikson, Steve Marker and Butch Vig – convened at a home belonging to one of Marker’s relatives and sketched out the skeleton of the album over two weeks, jamming, experimenting and feeling the songs out. They then took those demos and went their separate ways before connecting in Los Angeles to finish the record.

Garbage will unveil a deluxe CD/digital version of No Gods No Masters featuring covers of classic tracks by David Bowie, Patti Smith and Bruce Springsteen along with rare Garbage originals. The deluxe version also features new voices, with appearances from Screaming Females, Brody Dalle, Brian Aubert, John Doe and Exene Cervenka. The album will also be available on neon green vinyl and white vinyl.

Since releasing their eponymous debut album in 1995, Garbage has blazed a unique sonic trail, garnering critical acclaim and amassing a passel of hits as well as seven Grammy nominations along the way to 17 million albums sold.

Chugg Entertainment and Frontier Touring wish to advise that David Gray’s White Ladder: The 20th Anniversary Australian and New Zealand Tour has been rescheduled. The tour, originally scheduled for November-December 2020, then rescheduled to November 2021, will now take place in November 2022.
David Gray had this message for his fans –
Dear White Ladder ticket holders,

Thank you all for bearing with all this so patiently over the last 12 months.
After lengthy discussions, it has been decided with regret that the only sensible option is to reschedule the entire White Ladder Anniversary Tour and move all the dates to 2022.
It is hugely disappointing to have to do so, but the key word to keep in mind here is interconnectedness. It’s not enough that some of the dates might be able to happen this year, all of the dates need to happen in order that the tour as a whole makes sense. This is the third time I’ve had to make one of these announcements, but if I’m being honest, it’s the first time that I feel, with a strong degree of certainty, that these rescheduled shows will actually take place.

All previously issued tickets remain valid for the new dates.

Co-produced by Brit award-winning writer and producer Steve Mac – known for his work with some of the most prolific names in pop – and has just been added to the Radio 1 B List, arriving just a few weeks ahead of the release of Californian Soil, the brand-new studio album from the band, out April 16 on Ministry Of Sound.

Of the single, Hannah Reid said, “I’ve always loved pop music. Some of my favourite writers and singers are female, many who are younger than me but who are absolutely smashing the pop world with amazing songs. This song started off as an experiment and ended up being one of my favourites on the record. Along with our alternative side, this creates a light and shade on our album that I’ve always wanted to achieve.”

The new album features hit singles Baby It’s You and Lose Your Head, both of which were co-produced by George FitzGerald. The band also just released the Paul Woolford remix of How Does It Feel.
