Punk-rock icons Goldfinger have announced their highly anticipated album Never Look Back will be released December 4, 2020 via Big Noise. This release marks the official return of original guitarist Charlie Paulson to the band, joining John Feldmann, Mike Herrera, Philip Sneed and Nick Gross.

“’Wallflower’ was the last song I wrote for our upcoming album,” Feldmann shared in an exclusive interview with Alternative Press. “It’s coming out later this year on my own label (Big Noise) and that just is a very full circle moment that I am so proud of.”

Goldfinger formed in 1994 and has since been regarded as a contributor to the revitalization of ska music’s popularity in the mid-1990s before leading the charge on the 2000’s pop-punk movement. Outside of their music, Goldfinger has always been active and outspoken about a variety of political and social issues, especially animal rights.

From the haunting opening vocal, the classical drums, the melancholy guitar line, the listener knows they are in for something epic. The sky gets a little darker, the goosebumps start to prickle the skin, ears search to hear what comes next. By the time the verse kicks in, the heaviness overtakes.

“MISERY, cover me in waves, the heartache is slowly, withering, I become her slave”

And so begins a song of depression and opioid addiction, by MACHINE HEAD.

Guitarist/vocalist Robb Flynn begins, “I have some family members who have beaten their opioid addiction, and have some still in the throes of addiction. It is painful to watch, and I deal with it with great difficulty. It is a song of sadness, but there is hope as well. I have beaten my own drug addictions and we can fight through this, together, and share our pain with the world.”

He continues, “Musically I wanted to go for a bit of a “Through The Ashes OF Empires” vibe, and it had a grandiose vibe from the beginning, something about that vocal melody haunted me day and night. I sent it off to one of our collaborators Joel Wanasek, and he came back with a whole depth and dimension with strings and keys that really made the song come alive. I added the guitar harmony in the chorus soon after and I knew we were on to something special.

On the recent “Burn My Eyes 25th Anniversary Tour” I mentioned to Logan about needing a riff or two for a new song, he was excited to collaborate, I sent him the song and the next day he sent me back the heavy riff in the bridge and I was floored. It fit perfectly, and felt really cool to be writing together 24 years later. Jared came up with the rhythm under the lead section and the song really locked into place.”

Guitarist Logan Mader adds, “During pre-pro for the BME anniversary tour last year, I had a special opportunity to collaborate with Machine Head for the first time in over 20 years.

This is a big milestone for me, to circle back on a massive orbit around life and end up doing new music with MH is epic and unexpected. The song, “My Hands Are Empty” was almost completed but needed a riff or two. Robb sent it to me, so I jumped in and added a section which ended up in the master after some arrangement tweaks by Robb. The song is amazing. It was a great feeling to be in the studio with Robb after all these years and I hope to do it again!”

The earth-pounding drums were performed by Navene Koperweis (ENTHEOS, WHITECHAPEL, ANIMALS AS LEADERS) who performed on the track “Circle The Drain” (released in February) and the song feature trading vocals in the chorus between lead singer Flynn and bassist Jared MacEachern for a truly dynamic feeling musical piece.
Once again produced by Zack Ohren and Robb Flynn, and masterfully mixed by Colin Richardson, the accompanying video was directed by Mike Sloat / Roaring Mouse Productions and proved to be quite a challenge in the Covid-19-era, with Northern California health officials shutting down the shoot 24 hours prior, but ever the improvisers, were able salvage the whole affair, and the stunning results can be viewed here: https://youtu.be/pKpFE2A1lUE

Less than a year since their debut album The Dead Are Screaming, WEREWOLVES are back with their sophomore full-length What A Time To Be Alive – due to be released on January 29, 2021 via Prosthetic Records. NOOKY RELEASES HIS NEW SINGLE

‘ALWAYS WAS ALWAYS WILL BE’ – OUT TODAY

Fresh from sharing his video for ‘Always Was Always Will Be’, Sydney based MC Nooky releases today on all DSP’s the single which was inspired by this year’s NAIDOC theme.

The new single is produced by up-and-coming producer Mansus with additional production by iamsolo, who also produced Nooky’s previous single ‘Ere Lah’. 

The Yuin Nation hip hop artist says, ‘Always Was Always Will Be’ is one of the first things I learned growing up! It gives a sense of strength and pride when stated, it’s something you can say with your chest and back whole heartedly because this land that we all stand on, is and always will be Aboriginal land and that shit’s undeniable. It’s a reflection of the sense of pride and strength you get growing up with ya mob, it’s also a nod to this year’s NAIDOC theme. The track features our slang and is unapologetically black, it was produced by up and coming producer Mansus with a sprinkle of the sauce from iamsolo. This shit right here is the new NAIDOC anthem, f*ck it new Australian anthem.’

The official video for ‘Always Was Always Will Be’, was proudly premiered during NAIDOC week on Acclaim.com and was directed by Burrows Digital and filmed in Sydney.

Back in October, newcomer Jack Longo announced his brand new solo alt-rock project and his debut EP ‘I Will Ruin Myself’. The young musician out of Gippsland, Victoria rolled out the first taste of it – single ‘Ruin’ featuring guest vocals from Earthbound‘s Tom Armstrong. Today, he drops the newest cut from it, a week out from the EP’s release.

The new single, entitled ‘Dust’, delves into the comfort/discomfort of being consumed by relationships. “Dust is about when you let yourself be consumed be a relationship or friendship to the point you go through the motions even though you know it kills you inside. Even when you do everything right, you feel at all falls back on you. The dust stays settled.”

Jack’s Debut EP ‘I Will Ruin Myself’ was recorded, produced & mixed by Teddy Flags, Mastered by Sam Bianco and with Artwork and visuals by Markus Sharpe. Previous Single Ruin featured Tom Armstrong from Earthbound on guest vocals and served as a perfect intro to Jack’s music. The raw almost pleading tone of Tom’s vocals bring to the surface those moments of utter despair when you just want to give up. Experimental Sydney-based duo Plastic Face have today announced their brooding, delightfully bizarre new single HiiViSiON, an intriguing exploration into a very strange state of mind, out today, November 17. The mysterious duo have also released a stunning clip to accompany the track, written and directed by Sean Donovan.

HiiViSiON makes an immediate impact with the curious opening lyric ‘Have you ever seen a rat trying to fly?’ Evocative of 90s house music, but with hints of modern Australian influences such as Tame Impala and Flume, Plastic Face is carving out a very special, unique niche for themselves. Should the listener dance, or listen contemplatively, or do both at the same time? It’s up to the individual, as Plastic Face explains, “The song isn’t really about someone, it’s more a state of mind. This year has been so bananas it kind of represents our feeling towards it…Life and experiences make us tick, strange, and unique.”

A song and project as unique as this deserves a visual representation that suits the source material – and the video for HiiViSiON does not disappoint. Dark and wild, a nighttime car trip in the rain takes a bizarre turn – evocative of Donnie Darko, the entire video is deeply unsettling, yet intriguing, and will prompt the viewer to watch again and again. Speaking on the inspiration behind the clip, Plastic Face says, “One of our lovely pals Sean Donovan wrote and directed this clip. After seeing his independent short film ‘Headless Chooks’ we knew we had to work with him! It was evocative, dark, and truly open to interpretation. ‘HiiViSiON’ is no different. We all agreed we wanted something mysterious, dark, and thought-provoking. Something to entice people to dip their toes into our world so to speak and come up with their own answers. Every week we will get together in studio to write, and we’ve tried to stray from tradition many times but we always end up at KFC together. It will just remind us of some good laughs, some good tears and the beginning of many really good songs.

2. Glitter in every colour, but for the face. You’ve never seen pure joy till you’ve had Luka run up and ask you to comment on the glitter he’s just put on his face. At this point it’s in our clothes, our instruments and he keeps losing his despite it being “a must” so we’re gonna need it for vibes. Plus it looks sick under the stage lights.

3. Beer and Gin … and tonic? Quanitity? Well, to put it simply, “the limit does not exist”. UNLESS you’re just about to play a show at Glastonbury, in which case the limit does not exist for Harry. You’ll have a hard time keeping that boy away from a drink haha.

4. An actual fountain of peppermint tea. Anthony got us all hooked on it and it’s good for the voice, which means that the more you drink of it the better you’ll sing yeah? Actually we’ll take a spa’s worth of peppermint tea. It’ll smell good too.

5. A Purple Fender Stratocaster…we can’t afford one, and this is a dream rider right?

6. A 35mm camera for the best gig photos, David, our media guy wants one and if we’re gonna get them sweet performance shots that boy gets what he wants. As for the rest of us, we’ll make do with some disposable cameras. Nothing is better than looking back on some physical photos.

7. Tom Ford Tuscan Leather cologne. That or the range of cologne by Comme De Garcons. We’ve got an actual phobia of B.O in this band. You might be several metres from the stage and we might be sweating like a bunch of boys about to sit a mid-year exam (something we have done, and sweated through together before) but you can bet your ass we smell good up there.

8.Mario Kart, look, it’s a well known fact that if any decisions need to be made, the person who comes first in Mario Kart gets the final say. We didn’t make the rules but we sure as hell are here to honour them.

9. Purple Rain or Miseducation of Lauryn Hill on vinyl

Two albums full of certified bangers and classics that have inspired us in the past, present and future. The amount of soul in those two records is both gonna rev us up and also calm the nerves.

10. A coffee machine, not just any coffee machine, we want one of those coffee machines that the baristas use. Rosh loves coffee way too much and we’ve been planning to see who can down more shots without having a full mental breakdown which would make for some serious stage presence
