Intimate, intricately detailed, beautifully rendered, “Wednesday Night” EP shows a stripped back and raw side from Eastbound Buzz. Recorded on the last Wednesday Night before the second lockdown in Melbourne Eastbound Buzz recorded live 6 songs which grip you from the very first strum.

Drawing on influences such as Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska and the more intimate gripping moments from a War On Drugs record, lead singer Jarryn Phegan’s vocals are shown off in all their glory.

The six tracks offer a different take from Eastbound Buzz’s more heavy rock leaning tracks, stripping back ‘Red Rover’ and ‘Lost In The Shuffle’ along with and the lead track ‘Surrender’ which was co-written with Shannen James and sees James on backing vocal duties. A cover of Don Henley’s ‘Boys of Summer’ shows exactly what lead singer Phegan’s vocals can do at their essence. Capped off by the beautifully and delicately styled ‘Dreams End’.

Jarryn Phegan the lead singer explains more behind the concept of the EP, “it was recorded in one night.. Wednesday Night at Fight Night Studios in Abbotsford. A few of them are songs I have been sitting on for a while and I thought lent themselves to this style of recording. Red Rover and Lost in the Shuffle are songs we usually play with the full band but stripped back. Every song was done in one or two takes with only one or two overdubs added afterwards. We wanted it to feel raw and like a live, intimate performance with the songwriting speaking for itself. As a collection of songs, the EP is about a long term relationship coming undone and the few things I did to try and keep it together… with Boys of Summer thrown in for good measure.”

More About Eastbound Buzz

Eastbound Buzz arrived on the scene in 2019 as a force to be reckoned both live and on record, with their debut EP Opportunity Shop receiving national airplay and garnering significant attention. Centred around lead single ‘Looking for Trouble’, described as ‘a spectacular alt-country, road trip, tear-jerker’ (Nkechi Anele, Triple J), the EP introduced audiences to the Melbourne four-piece’s distinctive brand of Americana-tinged alt-rock.

Not content to sit on their laurels, the band followed up their debut EP with new single ‘Lost in the Shuffle’ in late 2019, capping off a year that included feature interviews on

Triple J’s ‘Roots and All’ and RRR’s ‘Twang’, as well as live shows with the likes of Kingswood, MID CITY and The Northern Folk.

It all began with childhood friends Jarryn and Jet, who grew up as teens playing INXS, Black Keys and Fleetwood Mac down at the local pub in rural Australian town Wagga, knowing one day they wanted to start their own band. Relocating to Melbourne in 2016 would be the first step to realising this goal. Shortly after the move Andy and Louie joined the cause and the band would be complete. Originally playing under the name Wolpertinger – the boys soon realised no one could pronounce the name, so they turned to a random name generator and landed on Eastbound Buzz.

Appearing chosen as part of the Bigsound50 for the virtual Bigsound 2020 Eastbound Buzz cement themselves are one of the up and coming bands Australia has to offer. With live shows now on the cards for 2021 Eastbound Buzz close out the year with the release of an acoustic EP aptly titled “Wednesday Night”, a showcase of raw emotion and the true essence of song-writing on full display.

Following on from her debut track “Set Me Free”, Melbourne-based singer-songwriter Kinkora has today returned with her stunning follow-up track, “You Got Me”, alongside a perfectly crafted, delightfully quirky music video.

For fans of H.E.R, Sabrina Claudio, and Lianne La Havas, the 90s inspired R&B track is stripped back and intimate, providing plenty of space for Kinkora’s smokey, warm vocals and layered harmonies to shine. Kinkora’s mesmerizing melodies float above the reverberant guitar and simple percussion, creating a landscape fit perfectly for storytelling.

The sincerity of her lyrics and vocal delivery creates a deep sense of connection to Kinkora’s experiences. Oli Sykes says on the new offering, “It is my favorite song off the record. I’m so excited to get this single out, it feels like a classic Bring Me The Horizon tune but without it feeling like anything we’ve done before. I feel like Teardrops is some of the best work we’ve ever done, musically and lyrically as a whole.”

The Teardrops video is another creative by Oliver Sykes who directed, edited and starred in the enthralling visual. Sykes draws on his personal relationship with depression channeling it into the visual representation of him drowning, which saw him spend a full day in an underwater tank when filming.

The first two tracks from the EP Parasite Eve and the recent colossus Obey featuring fellow Brit YUNGBLUD, have received critical acclaim and amassed over 115 Million audio and video streams combined to date. Other guests on the EP include BABYMETAL, Nova Twins and Amy Lee from Evanescence.

They continue to push their own creative boundaries and have created a body of work that is one of their most exciting, diverse, intricate pieces of music yet.

Singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Ashton Irwin has today release his debut solo album ‘Superbloom’.

It was back at the beginning of lockdown in February 2020 as Ashton saw his touring schedule empty and no recording planned with his band 5SOS (5 Seconds of Summer) that the spark to make a solo album was lit.

Created from start to finish, solely in his LA home with producer housemate Matt Pauling, ‘Superbloom’ is the result of his continued artistic advancement. Irwin had always had it in his mind that one day he would make a solo album and now the opportunity presented itself. This was a chance for the 26-year-old to make a record that combined sounds drawing from the broad collection of artists he loved – including but not limited to Foo Fighters, Nick Drake, Helmet, Silverchair, Stone Temple Pilots, My Bloody Valentine, & Curve – with lyrics that touched on every aspect of his life. It’s filled with the poignant, profound songwriting that only comes about from an artist fully handing himself over.

These are songs about Ashton’s childhood, about alcoholism, depression, body dysmorphia, death, addiction, despair and hope. “I had to reach a certain level of lyrical maturity in order to write about something I actually cared about. I think it’s always important as an artist to have a mission statement, like, ‘why do you make music? Why do you write the lyrics you write?’.”

Each song feels like a fresh leap into a deep theme and new sonic palette, all the tracks belonging together at the same time and standing as singular statements. ‘Greyhound’ pulls at the thread of the greyhound racing industry and all its horrors and ends up reflecting on the rat race of modern life and how the working classes are being hammered into a routine of work, work, work. That it does this, whilst sounding like a euphoric mix of Soundgarden and Tears For Fears, only adds to Superbloom’s fist-clenching sense of purpose.

The captivating, dusty acoustic balled ‘Matter of Time’ captures the slow battle of sobriety. “I’ve been sober for a year and three months but fuck me it’s so thirsty at times. Matter of Time is about weakening the darkness that comes into your life.” The baroque strings of ‘Sunshine’ peer into the corruption and deception of the US media and the sweeping heavy-rock licks of ‘The Sweetness’ see Irwin revisit one of the most harrowing episodes of his life. “A couple of years back, I finally decided to get treatment for anxiety and depression. I was pretty much on the verge of killing myself. I just need to free myself from that fear.” The song recounts the emotional states Irwin went through as part of his recovery.

‘I’m to Blame’ is a stomping salute to iconic rock ‘n roll tracks of the past, recounting the cosmic enlightenment that comes from late-night conversations with friends, and ‘Drive’s pulsing, shimmering pop delicately weaves through the turmoil of bereavement. After a record that has shone a light into all the corners of Ashton Irwin’s life, it makes sense that it concludes with a song about his career as a pop star. The snarling minor-chord electro-pop of ‘Perfect Lie’ is about singing songs you don’t believe in. “I’ve been a fucking meat puppet at some points in my life,” he says. “I’m so grateful for everything I’ve been through but sometimes you’re just not feeling the things you’re saying as a performer. I think it’s cool to write about that too. It’s about growing out of songs you’ve written in the past.”

For an artist who has predominantly worked within the collaborative dynamic of a band, this was a chance to go off-grid. “It was really freeing and inspiring to me,” he says. “The journey I was intending was growth, self-understanding, self-reliance when it comes to song-writing and production. The songs I’ve written for this record couldn’t be sung by anyone else but me.”

A testament to their deeply rooted bond, 5SOS have wholeheartedly supported and encouraged Ashton through the recording process of ‘Superboom’, with understanding and respect that the nature of these songs could be told only by Ashton himself.

It was this reassurance of the band’s loyalty to one another that allowed Ashton to create a record from its very genesis right through to its conclusion, throwing himself into it both practically and emotionally. The result, a deeply personal, evocative and uncompromising record from an artist poised and ready to tell their story.

Her podcast Team Tiger Radio provides a platform for predominantly new, Australian-based talent to share their music and skills on the decks. From a normal start to a pandemic release, East York brings you their first ever single Outsiders. 

It’s April 2020, the world is in lockdown and Zane has been sending drum ideas to Daz to write riffs over and now they have a batch of banging instrumentals, ready for collaboration. We see Eric move to Melbourne from Toronto Canada, reconnecting with Daz after 10 years apart. Finally the internet brings Tarquin into the mix, who demo’s three songs and fires them back. Everyone agrees “let’s do this thing” and East York is born.

When talking about the new track, Tarquin (Vocalist) says: “Outsiders is a tribute to the ones who walk on the outside of society. It speaks to those of us who play the game of life on our own terms and, who don’t care to swim with the tide.” It is always a journey of discovery when starting a new band but East York have found their grounding in Rock.

Their debut single will have you yearning for more and we can confirm, there is more to come.

The whirlwind of heavy, fast, melodic, thrashy, and often meditative bombast, with sparks of hardcore punk, summoned by KILLER BE KILLED is the formidable and inevitable result of the sum of its parts, whose combined discography warped and shaped the culture.

Three men possessed of some of the most recognizable voices in heavy music split frontman duty. Boundary pushers and innovators, born and bred in different cities and tempered by their respective projects, each one is an equal participant in the fresh ceremony of inspired ritual, together with one of the most beloved drummers in heavy music. KILLER BE KILLED’s debut album was a force of nature that demolished preconceived notions of “supergroup” upon its arrival in 2014. RELUCTANT HERO, the band’s surprise follow-up, conceived in secrecy some six years later, doubles down on that mission statement while splashing the sonic canvas with new colors and visions.

Inventive in spirit and decisive in execution, KILLER BE KILLED sound borderline esoteric at times and yet remain unrelenting in heaviness and groove. Like its self-titled predecessor, the 11-song RELUCTANT HERO was produced and mixed in Southern California by Josh Wilbur (Lamb Of God, Megadeth, Gojira). It’s an assemblage of aggressive compositions that blends basement-show worthy carnage and massive festival-ready hooks, anchored in smart, dissident sensibilities, and raw authenticity.

None of these men are strangers to collaboration. Max Cavalera peppered Sepultura’s genre-redefining Roots with guests; a tradition continued on Soulfly’s RIAA certified gold debut. He was one-half of the incendiary Nailbomb, with English producer and Fudge Tunnelmastermind Alex Newport, and leads Cavalera Conspiracy with his brother, Iggor. Soulfly’s eleventh album, Ritual, is one of their most acclaimed. His fire is unquenchable.

Greg Puciato demonstrates his devotion to atmosphere and emotional honesty as one-half of the synth-driven chillwave duo The Black Queen. Continuously unleashing projects in diverse mediums from print to video, his debut solo album (which put him on the cover of Revolver Magazine) was another reminder of why MetalSucks has him at No. 1 on their list of the Top 25 Modern Metal Frontmen. Puciato led The Dillinger Escape Plan across five full-length albums and several EPs, till their multi-night final stand in New York City.

Troy Sanders is best-known as vocalist and bassist for metal shamans Mastodon. Their seven studio albums document an ever-evolving identity as standard-bearers for post-modern extremity, each of them rich and layered in texture, always boundary-pushing. He’s lead vocalist and bassist in Gone Is Gone, together with Troy Van Leeuwen (Queens Of The Stone Age, Failure, A Perfect Circle), Tony Hajjar (At The Drive-In) and Mike Zarin. The Grammy-winning Southern gentleman cut his teeth in the band Social Infestation.

Koller joined the group, after the recording and release of their first album, in time for KILLER BE KILLED’s inaugural live performances, alongside Slipknot, Marilyn Manson, and Judas Priest as part of the Soundwave Festival, and at club shows with Lamb Of God. As the propulsive force behind beloved noiserock titans Converge for two decades, Koller is one of the most respected drummers in the underground subculture. He’s a co-founder of All Pigs Must Die and Mutoid Man, the band he shares with Cave In’s Stephen Brodsky.

KILLER BE KILLED began when Max and Greg ran into each other at a Los Angeles benefit show for Chi Cheng, the late Deftones bassist who spent years in a semi-conscious state following a 2008 car accident. The two discussed doing a project, which led to a combination of riffs and a 72-hour writing session in the Arizona desert. Demos were recorded with the same drum machine and four-track Max used working on Chaos A.D..

Mastodon and The Dillinger Escape Plan have toured together many times. During one such tour, in late 2012, Puciato was telling Mastodon’s Troy Sanders about the new band. Before too long, Sanders and Cavaleramet for the first time at a festival in South America. “Hey, I’m Troy. And I think we’re in a band together.” The electric chemistry was apparent the first time they all assembled together. The collective energy and mutual respect resulted in first-album bangers like “Wings of Feather and Wax” and “Curb Crusher.”

Things went quiet on the public front following the band’s string of shows in Australia, but KILLER BE KILLEDremained steadfast in their commitment to rise again. Rather than stir up the heavy music community with talk about what they may or may not do, Cavalera, Puciato, Sanders, and Koller resolved to write and record the second album in secrecy. A cohesive, collective vision, RELUCTANT HERO represents a renewed statement of purpose with even more depth and clarity. KILLER BE KILLED is the sound of the specific chemistry in the room when these four guys are together. KILLER BE KILLED is inevitable.
