The Duke of Spook has returned once more from beyond the grave to reveal the »Necrophaze«! This latest, full length offering from the ghouls of WEDNESDAY 13 will be available on September 27th, 2019 via Nuclear Blast Records. Heavily influenced by the real life night terror occurrences ofWednesday himself, historical serial killers, and a slew of 80’s horror films, the ideas behind »Necrophaze« are bizarrely familiar, frightening, and a hell of a lot of fun. Being a collector of both media and toys, Wednesday 13 was inspired by a craving for variety to create dual album artwork for this release. The covers showcase either end of the horror spectrum with a “Creepshow” comic book vibe for the LP artwork, and the eeriness of something akin toJohn Carpenter’s “The Fog” adorning the CD.

The recurring themes of »Necrophaze« illuminate facets of real life horror. With the death of NECROPHAGIST frontman & friend Killjoy earlier this year, and while creating the mold for a new stage-show mask, the development of the ‘Necrophaze’ character and story naturally began to take shape. “It always starts with a title for me,” explains Wednesday, and from there began digging into a variety of terrible subjects. The title track is not just an introduction to the character, but to the terrifying circumstances of sleep paralysis. Left not just unable to move, but unable to protect yourself from the ‘shadow people’ who crowd around your nest, these figures don’t just hover and give you a fright, but will suck away your soul and implant an evil haze in the chasm that remains. “A shadow is just a shadow until you put a face on it and you can’t move. Then it becomes pretty freaky,” Wednesday explains. “A lot of »Necrophaze« is my own nightmare, but we’ve worked some history in there as well, it’s not all fantasy.”

While still consistently horrifying, this new album certainly carries with it a more humorous sentiment than its gloomy predecessor (and first album with Nuclear Blast Records), »Condolences« (2017). Songs like ‘Bring Your Own Blood (BYOB),’ clearly a play off the phrase “bring your own booze,” manage to intertwine opposing ideas of the blood sucking undead with a teenage house party. “In every 80’s horror movie there’s always a party,” Wednesdaychuckles, “so we wanted to get that vibe. The title made me laugh so we wrote a song that’s sort of a more violent ‘Monster Mash.’” The first single‘Decompose,’ which was initially written by drummer Kyle Castronovo, and was also the first song/demo brought to the table, is like a catchy anthem for the idea of “I know you’re dead, but I really wish you could be deader.”

»Necrophaze« is also the first WEDNESDAY 13 record with planned & performed guest spots which include appearances by Alice Cooper, Roy Mayorga of STONE SOUR (who provides an eerie, authentic, 80s inspired synth soundtrack-score to the album), Alexi Laiho of CHILDREN OF BODOM, and Christina Scabbia of LACUNA COIL. Also making an appearance on the album is Jeff Clayton: member of legendary punk bands ANTiSEEN & GG Allin’s MURDER JUNKIES.

This time around the recording and mastering was completed with Michael Spreitzer; producer, recording engineer, as well as the long time guitarist ofDEVILDRIVER. Working locally allowed WEDNESDAY 13 something they had never really enjoyed with their prior recording experiences: comfort and time. Being able to leave each day, sleep in their own beds, and come back again with fresh ideas, played an important role in the exciting, yet low stress development of the album.

With the same line-up for 9 years (with the exception of drums about 5 years ago), the writing process for WEDNESDAY 13 has developed itself into the apparatus that it is today. As literally every member contributes to the song writing process, and with a drummer who also plays guitar, the writing is shared quite evenly throughout the band. “Once things are brought to the chopping block, then the dots can all be connected, and songs can be developed,” explains Wednesday. “It’s all for the sake of a good song. A lot of times they’ll create the backbone and then I come in to do the lyrics. That frees up a lot more time for me to be creative with the band as a whole.”

With literally every show selling out on the latest run of 2019 touring, 2020 will deliver plenty of opportunities for WEDNESDAY 13 fans to see the band tour, and to witness their ever developing stage show. Following her recent East Coast Headline tour, as well as support runs with Dean Lewis and Matt Corby, indie-pop artist Eliott is riding a wave of productive momentum with today’s release of her a new single ‘Find A Way’.

Premiering earlier this week on triple j, the follow-up to single ‘Shaking My Hips’, ‘Find A Way’ sees Eliott experiment even further with pop sounds, richly layered with her lush, unforced vocals. The Melbourne-based artist worked with Dylan Nash (Broods, Angus & Julia Stone) and once again Jack Grace (a constant, formative influence throughout her blossoming career) – who produced what has already been touted as a ‘real game-changer’ from her recent live shows.

Eliott explains, “Find A Way is about losing all your insecurities and finally finding peace in who you are and where you are. Having trust in not only yourself but your surroundings, in a place where your intuition brings serenity and allows you to get your shit together.”

Eliott has released a multitude of standout singles to date, including the achingly beautiful ‘Over and Over’ and debut ‘Figure It Out’. Her music has been heavily supported by fans and critics alike and her early success culminated with her debut EP Bold Enough alongside the emotive feature track ‘Calling’.

Renowned for her soul-tingling vocals, Eliott recently featured on Kite String Tangle’s ‘Killing Time’ and Lucian Blomkamp’s ‘Doing This For You’ as well as co-writing Montaigne’s anthemic new single ‘Ready’.

A poignant artist rising through the ranks with her formidable prowess, South London R&B/Soul artist PRVNA releases a highly addictive feel good single ‘Fever’.
Glossy, innovative and empowering, ‘Fever’ is filled with infectious grooves and undeniably stunning hooks. The single was written when PRVNA fondly remembered the days of dating dangerous boys, knowing they were no good for her but entertaining it anyway because it was fun at the time.

On the single, PRVNA said, “I wanted to capture the melodrama of the beginning stages of dating and how often it’s lighthearted and that feeling when you know you’re into someone and can’t stop thinking about them,”

“Ultimately though, you know it’s a bad sitch and you don’t actually go down that road! But it’s about playing with that ‘Maybe you will’ and loving it too! I envisaged girls getting ready to go out listening to this song, putting on makeup and having a dance at home before they hit the party,”
Influenced by the South London landscapes in which she grew up, PRVNA weaves an introspective, raw narrative through-out her song writing. The search for growth resulted in her debut single ‘Homework’, an ode to self-love which ‘Get In Her Ears’ described as ‘a frank realness to uplift others in a show of sisterly solidarity.’

It been seven years since indie-rock/pop Friendly Fires have released a studio album and six years since setting foot on Australian shores , they had returned & the buzz from the crowd, slowly filling up the room, was electric. 


Beginning the night on a high note, Ballarat based 5-piece Gold Fields ensemble brought their eclectic, rock/pop sound & filled the room with ease.
Playing songs from their new EP “Dalawa “, Gold Fields bought tp the room the energy that was to open the flood gates for the main act and was greatly appreciated by the room, that had now filled, with handfuls of show-goers dancing along to the beautifully crafted sounds.


A definite highlight being dance- fuelled “Waves”, sending the front man into his own little world whilst he dancing around the stage.
A perfect support act, lighting the fire that was going escalate in a frenzy of excitement.

The lights dim and the the band walked onto stage to on an onset of cheers and clapping and the night exploded almost instantly with “Lovesick” up first.
 
Kicking goal after goal with a slew of hits “Jump In The Pool”, “Can’t Wait Forever”, “Skeleton Boy” & “In The Hospital”.
Mixes of conga drums, trumpets & two sets of drums floated through the air. Ed 
Macfarlane not stopping once to catch his breath as his dancing took centre stage, hips gyrating, arms a blur of movement, truly a sight to be seen and an understandably legendary accompaniment to the bands sound.



Following on with newly released tracks “Lack of Love”& “Silhouettes”, then slinging a few more well-loved they managed to sneak in an unreleased track “Offline”, to which Ed Macfarlane mused to the crowd that they had online played this track twice live.

The band brought the show to a stop with “Hurting” & “Paris”

Leaving the stage for only a minute and being openly welcomed again with roars from the crowd, not ready to stop dancing, Macfarlane thanked the room for sharing the night with them, showing his clear appreciation for the ones that have stuck by the group in their silence since 2011’s Pala.



Ending the already beautiful & bright night with “Hawaiian Air” & the song that the entire crowd had been seemingly waiting for “Kiss Of Life”, a feel good track that had the crowd singing louder than MacFarlane himself (who had seemingly started to lose his voice from the pure amount of energy that he had poured into the set)
. Ending the show on a brilliant high-note MacFarlane mentions the release date for the groups upcoming album “Inflorescent” due on August 16th & “this was way better than we could have imagined ”, it was wonderful to feel the mutual appreciation between fans & band.


The fire that had once felt like it could have burned the place down continued onto the streets as chatter about the show could be heard everywhere.
A truly magically night with a lot of beautiful memories to hang in the night air.

THE FUTURE OF BRISBANE’S LIVE MUSIC AND ENTERTAINMENT SCENE IS MIGHTY GOLDEN

A new golden era for live music and performance dawns in Brisbane when intimate entertainment space What’s Golden (at The Tivoli Theatre) throws open its doors on 27 AUGUST 2019, boasting a program of diverse shows from across the globe.

The brand-new 250-person standing capacity performance space with custom-built stage will sit within The Tivoli’s central foyer, complementing the main auditorium of the iconic Fortitude Valley venue.
What’s Golden meets Brisbane’s growing need for boutique and intimate venues and will serve as a drawcard for the highest-quality local, national and international artists and acts.
The Tivoli’s Co-Owner and Creative Director Dave Sleswick said What’s Golden will be the city’s new home for exciting, emerging and risk-taking musicians, performers and entertainers.

“What’s Golden is designed to be more than just another gig venue. It will welcome a varied and eclectic line-up of genre-pushing artists and acts spanning live music, cabaret, stand-up comedy, contemporary performance and curated parties and club night,” he said.

“The Tivoli has etched its way into the DNA of Brisbane for over 30 years. What’s Golden not only builds upon this incredible legacy, but also delivers a much-needed, niche venue for up-and-coming and underground talent.”

“Brisbane audiences are getting extremely adventurous and experience-orientated; constantly looking for ways to keep pushing life’s boundaries. We want to provide a space for that to happen through the arts and through programming fucking incredible musicians.”
Designer Aaron Barton has been tasked with reimagining the main foyer to accommodate the second stage, with set designer Sarah Winter stamping What’s Golden with its own identity while complementing the art deco features and old-world charm of the 102-year-old building.
“What’s Golden not only stays true to the history and aesthetic of the building but also uses The Tivoli’s long-standing reputation to keep propelling the venue into the future in new and fun ways.”

New features of the venue include a state-of-the-art stage complete with a new audio and lighting set-up, as well as an impressively renovated box office, new cocktail menu, craft beer bar and a daytime nook for coffees and Bloody Marys’.

The famed punk drummer is best known for his time on the stool as the drummer for the RAMONES and is the only RAMONES drummer credited as the sole writer and composer of six RAMONES songs. He is also acknowledged as being the only RAMONES drummer who ever sang lead vocals in some tracks. Richie joined the band before the release of “Subterranean Jungle” in 1983. He went on to perform on RAMONES albums such as “Too Tough to Die”, “Animal Boy” and “Halfway to Sanity”. Most notably, he wrote the hit RAMONES’ song “Someone Put Something in My Drink”, which is featured on the album “Ramones Mania” – the first RAMONES album to go platinum. He also penned songs “Smash You”, “I’m Not Better Now”, “Humankind”, “You Can’t Say Anything Nice” and “I’m Not Jesus”. Richie’s songs “Someone Put Something In My Drink” and “I’m Not Jesus” have been covered by many bands, including CHILDREN OF BODOM andBEHEMOTH.
